    The point is that Rafa doesn't believe he is "traditional midfield player" and he's not the only one. Johnny Giles is constantly bangin' on about it on RTE and his opinion I actually value. Gerrard cannot control a game. He is a naturally aggressive attacker and ball winner but certainly not a "traditional midfield player" who controls the rhythm and flow of a game like a fabregas, Zidane, Platini etc. Alonso certainly is when on form.

    I don't hate the man at all but I was told by a former player on a golf outing that Houllier had been bungs on transfer deals involving some players. I can't remember the players names but Ferri was definitely one of them. He also said that Neil Mellor's agent was his dad and when he went in to get a contract extension for his son, Houllier said there would be no problem as long as the deal was done through Houllier's own personal agent. The father refused and Mellor went to West Ham shortly afterwards. I don't know if any of this is true but it's what I was told. :(
