  1. Don't know how many he's scored this season (not many) but he's had at least one bad injury hasn't he? Last season he was on fire and got his England call up as a result didn't he?
  2. Oh come on! How can you not rate him? Great player. Fast, goalscoring midfielder who holds a position on the wing. Saying all that, I'd sooner have Wright-Phillips or maybe Jermain Jenus. Let's just wait until the summer to see which over-rated French nobodies our illustrious coach buys!
  3. Seems like a fair deal! Upson scores more than Heskey anyway! I've always liked him as a player, even when he was at the Arse. I think it'd do him good to have at least one season alongside Sami, he's still got a bit to learn. He's quick and he reads the game very well, but a little dodgy now and then!
  4. Much better performance than we're used to seeing wasn't it? I thought Kewell had one of his better matches and was unlucky not to score early on. Murphy was great again, Riise keeps improving (I just wish he's calm down when delivering the final ball, seems to get a rush of blood and then just whacks it!). Carra and Gerrard were typically great. But... For me, the match highlighted Houlliers inadequacies. Albeit he picked a much better side (probably more like the 11 we'd pick ourselves, no Traore/Biscan basically!). I couldn't help but notice a lack of shape in midfield and I think that it comes from players playing out of position. Here's a new one for you: Kewell is left footed, play the poor bastard on the left FFS!! With the mifield switching all the time and Danny unable to hold a position on the right (not his fault, he's a central midfielder) there were big gaps in the middle and a half decent team would have exploited them. Owen seemed to spend most of his time on the left waiting for the ball when I'm sure we'd all rather see him bombing down the middle on the shoulder of the last defender. Can't complain too much though, we won and we really needed that to stay ahead of Villa (who thought we'd be saying that!). My only worry is that to guarantee 4th, we neeed to win our last 2 matches, which would mean winning 4-in-a-row. Haven't managed that once this season. I'll finish on a positive note: 3 points bagged and we're in control of our own destiny. I'd have taken that before kick-off at Old Trafford!
  5. Harry is quality and he will show it soon. Conversly, Cascarino is, and always was, a know-nothing fuckwit of a useless c*nt! Shit player, and obviously not much of a pundit either! Have faith, Harry will shine next season.
  6. I'm sad to say that I don't think we have a chance. I don't think I've seen a match this season where we've worked hard off the ball closing people down (apart frm 1st haves agains Arsenal and Chelsea at the start of the season), and I belive that it's the only way to beat united. We all know what's going to happen. He'll rely on our "strengths", defending for 90 mins and hoping to get a goal on the counter attack. I think we'll be seeing a fair few hopeless long-balls from Gerrard, desperately trying to seek out Owen. Murphy will play because he's scored our only goals in our last 2 away wins at OT, and if it doesn't work out, we're fucked. We don't have the ability to change our tactics mid-game and it could cost us dearly. Who'll take the penalty if one should arise?!!?
  7. It seems very simple, we do need to get rid of this man or we risk falling into the Spurs/Leeds trap of giving the manager millions to spend and then sacking him 4 games into the season. The difficulty for the Board could be (and I'm guessing here of course) that if we lose the manager now, there's a good chance that the rebuild could take a few years (the last thing we need is ANOTHER five year plan) and in that time we lose money hand over fist through not qualifying for the Chumps league. On the other hand, give Ged his final year on his contract with a bit of chash to spend (Sounds like a lot does £30million, but it'd only by you one Juan Veron!) and hope against hope that he pulls something out of the bag next term. If not, the the new manager comes in and the hard work begins. I'm of the opinion now that Houllier will be given another season, and his contract will not be renewed, regardless of what happens next season.
  8. I'd say that the glass is as full as Mr Houllier can get it.
  9. Each to their own I say. It's obvious that some people have had enough and you can understand why this sort of thing crops up. The frustration is awful. Those who are waiting for the board to act could be in for a long wait, and even if they do, do you trust the board to pick a decent manager? (First time for everything I suppose). I don't think I'll be signing the petition, but I understand why someone would want to. It's gone too far and if, as a result of this protest, we get a new manager I won't be complaining. I just don't think that any change will come about because of an online petition.
  10. Newsflash: Houllier bids £10million for Maradonna! After hearing of Maradonna's heart-attack, Gerard Houllier was quick to offer a comeback deal to the drug-taking handball veteren. "His newfound inability to move makes him ideal cover for our Centre-backs..." said Houllier, "...he's a player who can play anywhere across the back four and should help our lads when they're tired after a hard European encounter against a 3rd Division team from the Ukraine".
  11. Of course we all want to support the team and we all hate the thought of seemingly becoming another Tottenham but the difficulty is that most of us here categorically do not suport the manager. How can we differentiate between showing support some of the team but not the w@nkers that don't deserve to wear the shirt? Start booing individual players? Perhaps we should just boo their names when they're read out before the match? Horrible and pathetic! SO what do we do? Say nothing and nothing will change. Do something and, at risk of unsettling a few players for the remainder of a worthless seaon (Although I did say perhaps the last game would be a good idea), something will be done by the board. Saying all that, maybe Foollier will stay, and we'll the premier League next season cos we'll get all the pens we deserve, have zero injuries and make a deal with the FA so as we don't have to play league games after European matches because we get a bit tired!
  12. Just out of interest, who do you guys think is actually worth keeping? Stevie aside obviously.
  13. That does seem to be the case. No way are the players mentioned worth 30 mill. It does only mention the so-called firt team players though (Diao being the anomily) so there could be more to come from the academy and the scraping of the barrel of the main squad. The plus for us is that we're shouldn't miss that money too badly (we've got good fans that still turn up when we're playing like we are), and the transfer market (although not good if you're selling) is currently in a good place regarding aquisitions. Smith for £5 million? Bargain IMO. Signings need to be made before the Euro Champs though, otherwise the prices will go up and up and up....and I don't see it as being easy to offload some of these guys.
  14. The man has become a joke. We'd all have considered it a disaster at the time, but he should have left after his health problems. Totally unbearable. Embarrassing.
  15. Spot on. Best way to protest is by not going to the match this weekend, or maybe the last match of the season no matter how important it might be.
  16. I notice the Ecru away shirt isn't getting a mention!
  17. ....unless they lose in their cup final!! ;-) It does seem stupid that Millwall can get into Europe like that, but surely it's down to teams like us to stop Arsenal and United winning everything.
  18. I agree. If he hasn't sorted it out yet, he never will. I think we'll get a good £5m from Middlesborough or someone like that for him. Enough to buy Alan Smith from Div 1 Leeds anyway! Question: If he left Liverpool, do you think he'd still get picked for England? Surely he only gets picked on the strength of his partnership with Owen.
  19. Unfortunately, the guy's got no chance now. I'd have him back in a second but once Houllier gets a bee in his bonnet....... Henchoz has got no chance now. Robbie didn't last long afer thier spat. etc etc... The worst thing is that we could end up spending another few million on a RB when we've been buyng one-per-season for the last few years! Babbel is good enough, there's no doubt about it. Carra our best RB IMO, and with Babbel and Finnan also around I think we're ok now. Cb is much needed, especially with Henchoz leaving in the summer. babbel plays there to doesn't he? Quality player, and we need him next season. Don't care about his dip in form when he came back for us, and can't blame him for not being top-dog at Blackburn when he knows he's only on loan there for one season (and just because his boss doesn't like him!). I think his attitude is great, and when he threw a strop after being subbed in that Eoru match I think he was more pissed off with himself than Houllier.
  20. Realistically: Kirkland Otsemobor RB Jamie Carragher CB (controversial?) Hyypia CB Riise LB Wright-phillips Gerrard Hamman Kewell (New idea here, play him on the left!) Owen (please come back!) Baros ....and would you look at that! Only one new signing! Manager: That would be me! Nah; Management TEAM: Rush, McMahon, Molby, Thompson. One another related topic, who would you get rid of this summer in the much-needed clear-out? Obviously: Biscan, Traore, Diao, Diouff....and that should recoup about 30 quid! Anyone I haven't thought of?
  21. I think GK is the very least of our worries for next season. ...although I hear Mike Hooper's still looking for a club!
  22. .....one thing though. Stevie said he wouldn't be the kind of Captain that shouts at the players because that's a 'thing of the past' or something llike that. Anyone know why that is? It's all very well leading by example but sometimes you need to give your teammates a bollocking dont you? Nice one Stevie. Proud of you lad!
  23. I take it we can pick from the whole of Europe then?!? Overmars?.....don't think they allow zimmer-frames on the grass do they? I'm working on the team....could take a while this...but allow me to be the first vote in the 'George Graham is a c*nt' poll!
  24. Me! I can think of more than one occasion where we could have done with Jari recently. What player of his quality have we had since he left? Personally (and I'm sure my heart is ruling my head here) I'd have kept him and had him serve the 'Bergkamp' role. An inspiration to the squad, and a quality player the likes of which you don't find in the premiership. 60 grand a week? Lot of money that! But..... Diouff Diao Cheyrou Traore Heskey ....should just about cover it!
  25. Absolutely, it's just that Cisse is an unknown quantity. Duff, we all knew, is a fantastic player. Proven Premiership quality. We deffo should have got him 2 seasons ago. I remember a few Mancs bragging about a certain Juan Veron who no one had ever heard of. His price tag seemed to suggest a great player. United fans took this to mean he's the best midfielder in the World and look what happened (happy days!). Thing is, United can afford expensive cock-ups, we can't. Right at the start I said that I've NEVER seen the guy play, and I'm hoping that you guys are right about him. I just have reservations about another expensive misfit. How long do we give the guy before it turns out we've got another Heskey/Diouff?....and do we fall into that age-old trap of giving the manager (huge amounts of...) money to spend in the summer, only to give him the boot in October?!!?
