That was the Week that Was (May 20-24 2024)

Monday May 20:

The fallout from yesterday is interesting. Man City once again screaming from the rooftops about not getting their due credit and wondering why everyone is talking about Liverpool instead. Their official account tweeted a a dig at us last night because they’re so obsessed. Linda responded to that today and basically put them in a body bag, it was great stuff to be fair, she’s absolutely savaged them while somehow keeping the high ground.

Everyone at City has a massive chip on their shoulder because they don't think they get the attention they deserve, and they're especially jealous of the publicity we get. Even today if you look at the homepage of BBC sport there are four stories on there, and three of them are about us including the main splash story. Their title parade is the other story but it's almost an afterthought. They're hilarious though, their own fans don't give a fuck about their parades so why should anyone else?

The club confirm Slot as the new manager and the beat journal all have stuff about how the appointment was made, what the process was, what Slot told them in his interview etc and it’s all interesting stuff. The big thing for me is one of the first things he said was how much he’s looking forward to working with my Darwin and getting him to fulfil his potential. Fucking yes Arne lad, you’ll do for me son.

Mind you, Darwin is getting pelters again on social media after some footage is doing the rounds of him being the only player not applauding Klopp in the guard of honour. I agree it doesn’t look good at all, but it could be nothing. A fuss was being made of the dressing room footage too with people saying he looked ‘bored’ during Klopp’s final speech to them. He didn’t look any less engaged than several other players to me, they’re just sat around listening but not necessarily hanging on his every word and looking at him all doughy eyed. And why would they be? This is the first time we’ve seen Klopp talking to the group so it’s a big deal for us. They’ve had it thousands of times. Darwin probably doesn't have a clue what he's saying anyway, which in itself is a problem but that's another story.

The not clapping didn’t sit right though and I can see why people weren’t happy. But the weird thing is I saw the interaction between them when the substitutions were being made and there was a warm embrace between them and there was nothing in Dawrin's body language to suggest he was pissed off. Then footage came out later today of the party last night where Nunez is grabbing Klopp and dancing with him. So my takeaway from this is that Darwin is wired somewhat different to other people and his behaviour is erratic as fuck. It doesn’t necessarily mean anything, he’s just one of those mad bastards who you can’t really judge the same way you would most people. I don’t think he didn’t clap as some kind of deliberate snub, I reckon he’s probably got a short attention span (probably thinking about drawing horses) and didn’t even realise he wasn’t clapping.

Of course I’m not ruling out that when he gets back to South America he lets rip in an interview and absolutely takes a flame-thrower to his future here. I could absolutely see that happening, the South American is strong in this one. Much like it is in his idol and mine, ‘El Pistolero’, who would often wait until he got home before baring his soul.

Turns out their parade wasn't last week, that's why I didn't read any mention of it. It was yesterday, and the only mention I've seen is from Reds on twitter taking the piss out of it.

As far as I can remember, the house is actually owned by the club. They bought it directly from Brendan, probably about 6-7 years ago. Think of it like a Vicarage...

Ok, that makes sense. At one point Brendan was Klopp's landlord though, which must have been a bit weird for both of them.

Particularly when the contract stated that Brendan's portrait had to stay on the wall in the main room.

Something about describing that impression as “sensational” keeps cracking me up. The characterisation of it keeps randomly popping into my mind. Maybe because it’s true. It was and remains absolutely sensational.

It really was. I don't know if it still exists anywhere online but I don't think I need to see it again. I like to remember it in all its original glory, like Jan Molby's ghost goal.
