  1. Live in Madrid. Toledo and Segovia an hours drive away. San Sebastian, Gijon, Santander, Pamplona up north. Loads of little villages (Llanes, Comillas, Santillana del Mar, etc.) and unspoilt beaches all along that coast. Worth drivin' up to the picos de Europa as well. Took a few people down to Andalucia. Always do Granada, Cordoba and Sevilla. Santander, Zaragoza, Valencia all sound as well. Food is spot on everywhere you go, loads of places with no beauts from the likes of Hereford or Halifax and all vices are cheaper.
  2. The increase in Turkey probably had something to do with the fact that the rag and the Times were the first to be delivered to the kiosks on the mornin' after the game (this also happens in Spain). Doesn't excuse the fact that there were shitheads in Istanbul who were prepared to buy the thing because "there weren't any other papers available"* *Copyright - Four Irish shitheads in a bar in Taksim.
  3. 'El Lobo's' a decent film about infiltratin' ETA. You can watch it on youtube, albeit in Spanish. Boss scene where he's gettin' legged by the Policia with Highway Star playin' in the background.
  4. Aye. They also shit on peoples' dead ancestors 'Me cago en tus putos muertos', possibly the worst thing you can say to a Spaniard
  5. Pfft, insultos cubanos, the Bat Chain Puller sure is tense.

  7. As has already been mentioned the best way to learn Spanish (ie. slang, expressions they use, etc.) is to move to Spain, but to learn the basics, join a course at the local college if you can, with a teacher born in Spain if possible. Try reading the Spanish newspaers every day as well as watching television programs on youtube. 11. When one of my brothers was lyin' on a life support machine as a kid twenty years ago, my parents sat us down and discussed the possibilty of donating his organs. I'm happy to say that everybody in the family agreed that it was the right thing to do. Think that a compulsory scheme is long overdue.
  12. A lad who supports FC Europa (3rd division Spanish side)/ Liverpool got in touch with me after reading the ‘Rejkavik to Rome’ book which tells the tale of a coachload of Liverpool supporters goin’ to watch John Aldridge play for Real Sociedad against Barcelona. The bit of the story, written by Ian Halliwell, which interested him most was when the travelling Reds went to watch Lloret de Mar play Europa the day after, he believes it took place on the 25th February, 1990, and ended up with the substitute and one of the goalscorers ‘Pedro’ being carried around the pitch after the game had finished. He’s been in touch with the club, but they don’t keep either teamsheets or the names of the scorers and are currently tring to track ‘Pedro’ down. As it’s their centenary year they’ve asked whether or not there are any Liverpool supporters who have photos of the game. It’s a long shot, but if there’s anybody on here who went and did take photos (days before mobiles I know) could you get in touch with me. Thanks in advance
  13. Tuesday night is 'Guitar night' in the Deysie lounge, anybody with a guitar can get up and play a couple of tunes.
  14. The clubs in Spain, unlike in England, are allowed to negotiate their own TV deals. Real signed their last one worth a total of €1.100 millon with Mediapro until the 2012/2013 season. The training ground was originally owned by Madrid City Council who allowed them to keep it. They sold it on to property developers in return for one (it might be two - can't remember) of the four massive office blocks (biggest bulidings in Madrid) that are currently being built on it.
