  1. I might be reading the below bit wrong as there are different parts of the BBC. It would mean the family didn't share or weren't allowed to share the identity of the young person when making the allegation. BBC News does not know the identity of the young person and has not spoken directly to them. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-66159357.amp
  2. If I read it right these points were omitted from the original coverage. The BBC don't know the identity of the young person. The step-father says he went to the police in desperation - the police couldn't do anything as nothing illegal had happened. The step-father informed the BBC of this when in contact on May 19th. The young person issued a denial. The young person is estranged from their mother. Those points provide a completely different context.
  3. War Chest from Major General Stevie.
  4. These two tweets have been liked by Huw Edwards today.
  5. So there was a denial by the young person on Friday and this was allowed to fester.
  6. BBC: Claims about presenter 'rubbish' - young person's lawyer Claims made by the mother at the heart of the BBC presenter scandal are "rubbish", a lawyer representing the young person has said. In a letter to the BBC, the lawyer makes claims that throw doubt on the story that has dominated front pages through the weekend. It says the young person sent a denial to the Sun on Friday evening saying there was "no truth to it". However, the "inappropriate article" was still published, the lawyer said. A spokesperson for the Sun said: "We have reported a story about two very concerned parents who made a complaint to the BBC about the behaviour of a presenter and the welfare of their child. "Their complaint was not acted upon by the BBC. "We have seen evidence that supports their concerns. It's now for the BBC to properly investigate BBC News does not know the identity of the young person and has not spoken directly to them. It has not seen any of the Sun's body of evidence, or the dossier the Sun reported was handed to the corporation by the family over the weekend. In their letter, the lawyer writes: "For the avoidance of doubt, nothing inappropriate or unlawful has taken place between our client and the BBC personality and the allegations reported in the Sun newspaper are rubbish." The Metropolitan Police are "assessing" information from the BBC over the allegations made against the presenter. Detectives held a virtual meeting with BBC representatives on Monday, a spokesperson for the force said. The Sun published claims on Friday that a BBC presenter paid a teenager for sexually explicit photos. The newspaper claimed that the man had paid the individual tens of thousands of pounds for the images, starting when the young person was 17. The BBC said it first became aware of a complaint in May, and that "new allegations" were received on Thursday, the day before the Sun first published its claims. On Sunday, the Sun reported that the young person's family was said to be upset by the corporation's latest response, alleging "no-one from the BBC rang them for a proper interview after the initial complaint". The paper also claimed the BBC presenter made what it called two "panicked calls" to the young person - who is now 20 - after the original story came out. The BBC said on Sunday that a staff member had been suspended, but has not identified him. In a statement, the corporation said it was working as fast as possible "to establish the facts in order to properly inform appropriate next steps". https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-66159357
  7. Didn't see that coming. I was under the impression there was evidence.
  8. In open play a goalkeeper rarely gets booked so unlikely to ever hit the 10 yellow ban. They might need to bring out the Martinez rule. However, it was fifth-bottom Aston Villa who received by far the most bookings for time-wasting. In their 1-1 draw at Liverpool in May 2023, Villa collected four yellow cards for time-wasting, more than 11 clubs received in the entirety of the campaign. Their main offender throughout 2022/23 was Emiliano Martínez. The Argentine collected six bookings for time-wasting, a tally topped by only two clubs other than his own. The majority of the 13 players with at least two yellow cards for this offence were either goalkeepers or played for Villa, and Martínez obviously ticks both boxes. https://www.pinnacle.com/en/betting-articles/soccer/the-data-behind-bookings-soccer/h6g28jzdl9plqbgb
  9. It's possible there could be more than one wanker at the BBC.
  10. A few people have speculated the victim refers to themselves as non-binary trans/ gender fluid. Differing commentators have used son/daughter.
  11. Yes but there is a caveat. If you are in a relationship with the said 16-18 year old then you can take pics as long as you don't distribute.
  12. The BBC said they received new information in a statement last week, I think Friday so that ties in. The mother originally contacted them May 19th.
  13. Another take is - the BBC said new information came to light in the last few days, quite likely the mother might not have even have known it was illegal and a possible police matter. Wise not to call the bizzies in if your child has a sizable habit and it would more than likely damage the relationship with her child. It looks like this was reported at the time ITV and Schofield were all over the news.
  14. Hmmm. Newcastle United strengthen links with mega-rich Saudi Pro League as Toon director joins Al Hilal Newcastle United director will also oversee business at Al Hilal Newcastle United director Abdulmajid Alhagbani has also been named on the board of Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal. The director is listed as one of seven new directors at Al Hilal soon after the club was taken over by the Public Investment Fund - who also own the Magpies. PIF now have a 75% stake in Saudi Pro League clubs Al Hilal, Al Ahli, Al Ittihad and Al Nassr https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-strengthen-links-mega-27267539.amp
  15. Sounds more like the BBC is the star here and seems a cheap way to point score.
  16. 35k seems a lot for photos in an era of OnlyFans but I'm cheap.
  17. I don't know much about Lebron but long before him my dads favourite footballer as a kid was getting as much as he could. While playing for Liverpool, his reported annual salary was £12,000. At Hamburger Sport-Verein, whom he joined in 1977, he would earn £250,000 a year after endorsement deals. Even in those pre-Bosman days, Keegan knew his value. He had insisted on a £500,000 release clause in his Liverpool contract, encouraging suitors to offer a larger wage packet given the relatively reduced transfer fee. Well before the 1976-77 season began, his intention to leave Anfield was clear. Liverpool’s chairman at the time, Sir John Smith, did not stand in his way.
  18. I wouldn't step foot over there to watch us play or watch their shitty pretend football. Reluctantly I have to say Howie is right. They will be invited probably to merge with Uefa/affiliation in some capacity fairly soon. The reason being they have no caps or limits outside and if they come under the umbrella they will have to follow rules. Oh and the Uefa suits will defo want a taste of the action. The Saudis may not want to be limited by wage restrictions etc - they might not feel it is in their interests to be dictated to.
  19. You know who will be fuming - Luke the Nuke Akehurst. Proably wants to implement facial recognition for all Labour members who attend events and a biometric style membership card.
  20. How much can the Al Ittihad fans moan though. That MBS jails people for posting mild criticism on social media. Can they call him a power hungry cunt - would a Saudi Daisy posting on the Al Ittihad way be allowed.
  21. Once they got good money for Mount, Havertz and dumped players in the Saudi League the odds look slim. If he's as good as people say, Colwill could replace Bellingham on the next summer list as we save for a CB.
  22. Van Dijk isn't finished but there are two problems, one he can solve and the other he can't. He's always been a player who football has come easy for - now he has to overcome the mental challenge of not being as good as he was. Stick him in Newcastle or Manchester United last season and he can get the pipe and slippers out. We know Klopp asks a lot of his CB. A man who was as good as he was and his ego will relish shoving the words down people's throats for doubting him - let's hope he can do it.
  23. That was my first thought - it would penalise teams who play a high line but Wenger who is pushing for this - is no friend of pragmatic football. Managed to find the first phase of the trials from under 18s and the small sample find a 0.35 increase in goals. I'm guessing the next stage is to trial at a higher level with a bigger set of matches. 632 goals / 177 matches = 3.57 goal per match Round 24 to Round 30 (plus the postponed match) that trialed the "daylight" offside rule: 247 goals / 63 matches = 3.92 goal per match
  24. Would be a very significant change if it happened. I read trials are happening shortly but can't find a timeline. A More Offensive Approach Infantino proposed to the FIFA development director to find an improvement that would benefit offensive soccer. And Wenger thinks he's found it. The Frenchman thinks that the spectacle will grow and proposes that the offside rule change. His idea is based on allowing the striker to be ahead of the defender, as long as he keeps a part of his body in contact with which he can score a goal in line with the last defender. Wenger has drawn inspiration from a study carried out in the Premier League that says offside calls would be cut in half. "At some point measures will be taken and it may even be determined that with five or six centimeters it is not offside. Everything is under study," authorized IFAB sources told MARCA. Of the four offsides on average in each game, only two would be offside with the change in the rule, something that could make it possible for the game to be more offensive https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.marca.com/en/football/2023/07/04/64a380dc268e3eeb7c8b4605.html
