  1. They're the nation's football team, have been since 6.2.58. Then we've got 29.5.85 on our collective conscience. When they take a shit, it smells of roses; if we plant a rose garden, it smells of shit. They've also got conveniently short memories. For example, their first two home games in 1971/72 were played at Anfield and the Victoria Ground because they'd been chucking knives into the away end at OT the season before. Google "man utd home game anfield guardian" for the report. Then when they kicked off in Europe, in St Etienne, in 77, even Anglea Rippon got her knickers in a twist - for a youtube vid google "man utd v st etienne 1977". I guess they get away with it because they can - even the decision in the Suarez / Evra case shows that and the consequential stream of abuse that our number 7 gets whenever and where ever he plays. FFS even the Hearts fans were at it.
  2. Whilst I'm not advocating him per se, do the claims of Martinez have a parallel with Di Matteo? He struggled at WBA - to the extent that they sacked him for the owl - but once in place at Chelsea he seems to have flourished. There are many reasons for that, coincidence, luck, snake oil or whatever, but could it be that the game that he advocates as a manager works better with players of a higher quality? The extension to Martinez is that the game that he wants to play might actually come off with the players that we have (notwithstanding the fact that the group contains Stewart Downing) rather than those he is able to afford at Wigan. Just a thought.
  3. Just to add my two penn'orth, Andy Carroll has shown recently that there might just be something there. Henderson is young and again shows the odd flash of there being something there. The real criminal for me is Stewart Downing. How he has the balls to come out with some of the garbage that I have heard / read in the past few weeks is beyond my ken. Especially when he is unwilling / unable / incapable of delivering where and when it matters. Oh and we've never won he cup after beating the blues in a semi. That's four times now. Anyway, enough of that, more beer...
  4. Fair play, showed more bottle than most of the rest put together - I think perhaps Suarez can be excused from that because he was so isolated until Carroll came on.
  5. Did we not win at Exeter, Brighton, Stoke, Chelsea and City on the way there though?
