  1. Staggering how many pundits seem to think the ref had a good game today. No wonder they regularly get away with performances like that. Lawrenson seems to love us doing badly for some reason. I remember him really doing my head in when I was listening to a game of ours against City at Anfield a few seasons back - back when we were actually still decent. Finished in a frustrating 1-1 draw with us wasting a load of chances in the second half (kind of a taster for what was to come) and he kept doing that annoying little chuckle of his at our attempts to score.
  2. Gerrard Johnson Sterling Suarez was much better too. In fact most players had decent games. Trying hard to be positive here but just completely deflated after that.
  3. Did he even think it was a foul? Couldn't even figure out if he thought it was or not from his reaction. Was pretty much past the point of caring by that point he'd been so bad.
  4. One of the worst refereeing decisions I have ever seen. Absolutely every big decision went their way in that match along with pretty much every small one. Hope Rodgers points it out in his press conference. Are we ever going to get a change of luck?
  5. Good report. I was starting to wonder if I'd just imagined the Johnson penalty appeal. It looked a really decent shout to me at the time and it made Sunderland's goal all the more infuriating because it came just a couple of minutes after it but I didn't see any reference to it when I briefly scanned the match thread later on and it didn't even get shown on Match of the Day last night. We've obviously got plenty of faults but it really is about time we got a change of luck. We've had 5 decentish penalty shouts in the last 3 games now and got none of them and as you say it would be nice if every single defensive mistake we make didn't end up leading to a goal for the opposition.
  6. I thought we played reasonably well but it was just the same old story of needing loads of chances to get just one goal and conceding with the only real chance the opposition had. Even when he's having a good game (and I thought for the most part he had one today) Johnson always seems to have one or two really bad defensive lapses and it just wasn't good enough from him for the goal today. This probably would have been considered a reasonable result had we made a decent start to the season but the longer we go without getting that first win the more agitated people are going to get. At least we didn't lose and this is the first time in quite a while I can remember us actually getting something after going a goal down but mostly it just seemed like another 2 points thrown away.
  7. His form is becoming more and more of a concern and we can't just keep making excuses for him because of things he's done in the past. He was awful last season and sadly seems to have got even worst so far this season.
  8. Depressing game to round off a depressing few days. Thought we started reasonably well in the first ten minutes but we just seemed to get worst and worst as the game wore on and I lost count of how many times we gave possession away through players failing to make even the most basic of passes or by miscontrolling the ball. Both goals again came from individual mistakes from senior players and the standard of goals we've given away so far this season has been infuriating. I feel sorry for Rodgers. He got shafted by the owners on Friday and has been left with a paper thin squad and the few class players we've got have all underperformed sofarthis season. Agger, Skrtel and particularly Reina have cost us goals with individual errors and Gerrard and Suarez have been mostly awaful. He needs time to turn things around. Might have had a few penalties that could have turned things round but got nothing from Webb as usual but until the last few minutes we didn't look remotely like creating anything and sadly a pretty average looking Arsenal side won very comfortably
  9. Allen Sterling Shelvey Thought Johnson had a reasonably good game too.
  10. Certainly seems that way. I used to start every season thinking this would be the year we turned things round and won the league. That's no longer even a vaguely realistic idea. Starting to wonder if we ever will again in my lifetime to be honest or we really have just become a team with nothing but a glorious history to live off. It's hard to see things changing so dramatically that we'll go from our present state to one of the top teams again. The current football landscape suggests that once you fall away from the top you can only get back with major investment and that just doesn't seem to be coming from the present owners.
  11. I had a nagging feeling last night the day would turn out like this but then I thought back to those quotes and kept telling myself there was no reason to be worried. I wasn't sure who we would get in. Most likely Dempsey and Sturridge. Maybe Dempsey and someone else. At the very least just Dempsey. I even had a small hope that we would get a really exciting player who would have everyone believing we were getting back into the top 4. But for us to end up with no one ... serious questions have got to be asked about what changed so that we ended up with no one coming in before the close of the transfer window.
  12. Well that's a day of my life wasted that I'm never going to get back. Constantly checking forums and sky sports for news of new signings only for us to sign no one. The club were either absolutely stupid in allowing Carroll to leave without having a definite replacement lined up or had no intention of replacing him in the first place and just made sure there were a few token links to players to make it look like they were trying to do something. Either way it doesn't paint a pretty picture of our future. They might not be as bad as Hicks and Gillette but that doesn't make FSG good owners. Still nothing happening with the stadium. Cared more about their image than defending one of their players with the Suarez and Evra case. And now leaving us with a threadbare squad in order to save some money on the wage bill. They clearly have no ambition to get this club back into the top 4 let alone challenging for the title again and I can only see our decline continuing from here.
  13. Yep. It's going to be just like when Torres was our only decent striker and we knew if he got injured then we were down to Ngog. Genuinely can't believe we are back in that position again. This club is just never going to sort itself out.
  14. Wonder if they would have accepted the offer from us for the extra 500k. Can't help thinking it had just become a point of principal for Fulham after the way we had faffed about all summer trying to get him as cheap as possible and they would accept an offer from anyone other than us. The club's plan was probably to just hope no one else came in and Fulham would sell out of desperation rather than be stuck with him sulking until January when his value would have gone down even more. We were okay with Villa who are arguably worst than Fulham at the moment coming in because Dempsey wasn't interested but as soon as another big club came in that was pretty much our chance gone.
  15. Absolute joke if we're not bringing anyone else in. We can all look forward to another season of watching the comedy show that is our players trying to put the ball in the back of the net and it wouldn't surprise me if we finished even lower than last season. I thought we needed another striker even with Carroll at the club. To send him on loan and not bring in at least 1 striker is moronic beyond belief. The owners have just made it clear that all they're interested in is getting the wage bill down.
  16. Seems like we genuinely didn't have a definite replacement for Carroll lined up and the way things are going we might not even get Dempsey. I just don't understand why we would sanction the Carroll loan if there was any danger of someone not coming in. It's not like West Ham would have said they were no longer interested if they'd been offered him near the end of today. Their squad is already overloaded with strikers and it seems like he was a bonus signing for their squad so it's not like they would have gone out and bought someone else instead. Whether you rate him or not he was at least one more attacking option and we seem to have very few of those.
  17. Surely the deal to bring in whoever Carroll's replacement is is already firmly set up. The club surely wouldn't have been stupid enough to agree to loaning out one of the very few strikers we've got otherwise. At least I'd like to believe this was the case but we've been so incompetent in the transfer market for so long now that it wouldn't surprise me if we spent transfer deadline day scrambling about trying to bring someone in and either ended up with no one or someone shit for an inflated fee. Hopefully there will be some pleasant surprises before the transfer window closes.
  18. Jesus, a couple of minutes away from being taken into extra time by a team as bad as Hearts. Pretty unbelievable that it got to that position but our usual ability to constantly mess up from positions when it seems a goal has got to come almost cost us. Suarez could score 40 goals a season if he could put away the easy chances. Gerrard was doing his best to get something going but his final ball and decision making in the final third was pretty shocking. Reina's form is becoming a serious problem.
  19. Allen Johnson Sterling Skrtel probably would have made it in but for his error. Shelvey had a really good game too.
  20. A goalkeeping error and an offside goal - wish we got that sort of help when we are losing and playing shite. Still not sure where this theory that Torres is getting back to form is coming from - thought he was terrible for most of the match. Was really impressed with Hazard though. Goes down as soon as someone breathes a little hard on him though.
  21. Wasn't really fussed about signing him earlier on in the week because it didn't seem like a priority position in need of strengthening but a bit disappointed about it now after so many supposedly respected sources had said it was a done deal. Don't think I'll ever belive anyone will sign until it's officially announced in future. Really hope we get in another 1 or 2 attacking players before the end of the transfer window as it was difficult to see again yesterday where exactly the goals are coming from this season.
  22. So Agger's just out for one match then. That's good. Thought it was 3. Shame that one game is against the best attacking side in the country. Both penalties were soft as fuck. You sometimes get a ref give one like that but 2 within a couple of minutes of each other? There would be mass outrage in the media if Suarez had gone down as easily on so many occasions as Long today. He miscontrolled the ball just outside the box and fell over and got a freekick about 5 minutes into the match and that just seemed to set the tone for his whole performance. Dowd was fucking appalling. Compare that to him giving Brown the benefit of the doubt at Anfield against Sunderland on the opening day of the season because he didn't want to end the game as a contest so early on.
  23. Allen Reina Johnson Unfortunately a top 3 of worst performers would have been more competitive. Depressing stuff.
  24. Depressing to think we'll be without Agger for the next 3 games. Agree that there didn't seem to be any point bringing Carragher on when we were losing 1-0. The penalty hadn't even been taken at that point so there was a good chance we would be 2-0 down so it just seemed to be giving up on the game. Not that having Carragher on seemed to help the defence at all. Had to take a breather after the second penalty was given for the good of my computer and when I came back I started to wonder if we'd had someone else sent off while I was away. We didn't seem to ever have more than 2 people near their goal and yet were constantly looking wide open at the back. No excuse to get run ragged like that even with 10 men.
