  1. If it were all just a game, as it often is in Congress, then I'd be hoping the Repubs do screw the Dems, just for the long term political damage it would do to them. And I think they're fully capable of shooting themselves in the foot; they've done it repeatedly since the last election. But in this case aid to Ukraine is essential. One thing that has me somewhat hopeful is that they've incorporated a couple of the things that Trump was calling for into the bill (forgivable loan vs. gift, etc). So perhaps he has given his tacit approval to it, and they won't try to pull any shenanigans hijinx.
  2. My question is what is the vote order? If I'm a Democrat, and Johnson is expecting my support, the Ukraine bill has to go first. What is the point of splitting the bill if not in hopes of getting aid to Israel and Taiwan passed without having to pass the bill sending aid to Ukraine.
  3. Two founding nations, two languages, two religions, two civil legal systems, etc. Two referenda on separation as well of course. But still together. (My point being only that it is possible.)
  4. How many other children does Boris Johnson have? It is believed that the former prime minister has nine children, however, he has not officially confirmed the exact number.
  5. Pep Guardiola has revealed that Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and Manuel Akanji all asked to be substituted before Manchester City were taken to penalties by Real Madrid.
  6. Haaland did fuck all, but don't you have to leave your best goal scorer on the pitch? It's not as if he was out of gas after spending 90 minutes running from one end of the pitch to the other. He basically just stands around in the box.
  7. Frank (Henry Fonda "Once Upon a Time in the West") Francis Dolarhyde (in the book "Red Dragon" by Thomas Harris. Brilliant character, almost impossible to portray on screen.)
  8. I actually haven't watched him much at all and was expecting a mid-field general who controlled the pitch from box to box. He spent most of his time chasing the ball and a step behind every pass. So as someone said above more a Frank Lampard than a Steven Gerrard.
  9. Bellingham over to celebrate with the fans as if he single-handedly won the match. He looked out of his depth throughout.
  10. Time to get Modric on and get a little possession in mid-field. Camavinga is useless.
  11. If they don't get possession of the ball now and then, Real are going to get thumped.
  12. The rictus grin at the end is magnificent.
  13. Walker too busy claiming offside to defend the cross that goes right by him.
  14. Five off the top of my head. Harry Powell (Robert Mitchum in "Night of the Hunter") Tuco (Eli Wallach in "The Good The Bad and The Ugly") Karla (The main antagonist in the George Smiley novels) Beth Jarrett (Mary Tyler Moore in "Ordinary People") Livia Soprano (Nancy Marchand in "The Sopranos") Don't know if the last two are villains, but they certainly were a couple of my favourite movie/TV antagonists.
  15. Correa equalizes, then Fullkrug puts Dortmund back in front (on the night, equalizing the tie) with a wonderful header. The longer it goes on the better this one gets.
  16. Hummels with the OG to level it up between Dortmund and Atletico. Watched him a few weeks ago and he was fantastic; last couple of weeks, not so much. Entertaining match so far.
  17. "Dancing in the Glory of Monsters: The Collapse of the Congo and the Great War of Africa" Jason Stearns "Africa's World War: Congo, the Rwandan Genocide, and the Making of a Continental Catastrophe" Gerrard Prunier Two books on the wars that took place in the DRC following the genocide in Rwanda. The first is the one to read first, the second is a much-more complex attempt to present all the different factions involved, and all the events that took place between 1994 and 2004. 5 million excess deaths in a series of conflicts driven in large part by Kagame's Rwanda and Museveni's Uganda, with most of the other surrounding nations involved in one way or another. The violence continues up to the present day, though at a lower level, with Kagame and Rwanda still heavily involved.
  18. Thought the same thing initially, watching with no sound as well. Was on Palmer rather than Madueke. Stood on his heel.
  19. If Everton spend the next 25 minutes kicking lumps out of the cunts, I won't be sad.
