  1. It was about being Liverpool and being the best, matching the opposition for guts and determination first and the skill level would then win us the game more often than not. Yes it was about having good grace and sometimes a lesser team would come away from Anfield with a draw, sometimes even a win, you can't win them all as they say, BUT when Liverpool do not show the required guts and determination and throw 4 home points away against 2 sides who just came up to our division then we are entitled to be unhappy about it. Chelsea and Man Utd both played Norwich at home, both were unconvincing but both won the game. We didn't.
  2. "We're a work in progress", as opposed to mighty Norwich and Swansea who are the finished article? You are the one who doesn't know The Liverpool Way. The Liverpool way was the winners way, now it's the losers way and supported by people like you. Work in progress my arse. Norwich and Swansea have just come up for fucks sake. Norwich played 2 divisions below us in 2010 and Swansea were there in 2008. Dalglish himself has said yesterdays crap was "unacceptable" so why mustn't fans say it too?
  3. Plenty of excuses, some valid and some maybe not but at the end of the day we failed to beat Swansea and Norwich at home! You talk about players being young and needing time etc but this summer Swansea made the Premier League for the first time ever and Darren Pratley went to Bolton, so a huge player in Swansea's midfield went. De Vries the keeper left for Wolves, one of the Championship's most consistent keepers wanted to go so he needed to be replaced. In season 2009-10 he had 23 clean sheets! Then they paid a club record 3.5 million for Danny Graham from Watford and he has scored 4 in 10 already (better than Carroll). He seems to have settled in ok! So to sum up, Swansea getting a DESERVED point at Anfield is pretty poor. Also Norwich and Sunderland. I love Kenny and he is a legend to me. I don't want him to go but results should be his judging tool and he himself has said that. So far with the money he has spent results have been extremely poor. We should beat Swansea at home under any cicumstances. Any players our scouts, coaches and manager thinks good enough to be Liverpool players should be good enough to get 3 points at home to Swansea. No Excuses. Fact.
  4. LOL No! I like your optimism but I never thought it would be easy.
  5. Totally agree. It's not like it was a one off and a weaker team parks the bus, don't want to play, goalie has the game of his life etc but Norwich and now Swansea have looked far from overawed at our place. Man Utd struggled against Norwich I remember, Norwich could have scored 2 or 3 but they did not and Anderson scores in the 82nd minute or something. Not convincing but Man Utd takes the 3 points and Norwich come away with a decent game but 0 points. They took a point from us and now Swansea have too. If those 2 teams can take a point (and Sunderland) then Fulham, Newcastle, Everton and the like could get one too.
  6. Yes Chelsea, Man U and Man City all did that exact thing today. Man U by all accouts were pretty poor against Sunderland but got 3 points when we got 1. Same old story.
  7. Yeah but in those games we have played Norwich and Swansea at home and West Brom away. None of these teams cost anywhere near ours and none pay the wages we pay. 12 points from 18 if we had played Everton, Tottenham, Man Utd away and Arsenal, Man City, Newcastle at home would be fine but we didn't. We have many more tricky games to come and those 12 points from 18 that you mention just won't cut it. 2 newly promoted sides have come to Anfield and got deserved draws and yes Norwich and Swansea are not crap sides, and do play nice football BUT when the fixtures came out and we saw 3 games in a row that was Norwich (H) then WBA (A) and Swansea (H) we all saw 9 points in our bag and thought that if we didn't get them then we haven't performed good enough for Liverpool FC.
  8. Oh well I was hoping for a win but I feared that Swansea would be a problem side for us. I said the goalie Vorm had the potential to save all we could put his way. Someone on here called Swansea chumps (before the game). That is embarrassingly stupid to say. If we had put Norwich away I would have maybe understood the optimism but after Norwich I was wary of Swansea.
  9. They held out against Man City away for a long time and last week away at Wolves Swansea were 2-0 up and coasting and then 2 individual errors in 2 mins made it 2-2. We never gave any newly promoted side a bumming as far as I remember. We lost to Barnsley in 1997, Ipswich in 1994, Watford in 1999, Blackpool in 2010. We are always shit against a small side at home.
  10. I don't think so! Told you Swansea are no gimmee.
  11. In Bob Paisley's autobiography he pretty much says that Keegan's final season 1976-77 his head wasn't right as he knew he was off and apart from Rome when he had a great match and we won the Cup his season was very poor and he had the Anfield crowd on his back most of the time. He did only score 12 League goals in 1976-77.
  12. Keegan the player was before my time but I remember him managing Newcastle the first time with affection. He was entertaining and tried to make an entertaining team. I read his autobiography twice and he came across as a nice guy. You never read any scandal about his personal life which you cannot say about some people. To Hermes who said that Keegan was more consistent than John Barnes, I just said that I never saw Keegan play but I remember Barnes very well and he was very very consistent for us until he got his bad injuries when he was older. From 1987-1991 he was as consistent in a Liverpool shirt as we had. He was not a player who had 1 amazing game followed by 5 terrible ones. He was a completely different type of player to a Gerrard but in my view Barnes was as consistent as Gerrard, Keegan or anyone.
  13. As I said I think Enrique and Johnson will have a tough game against their wingers so that will stop them getting forward as much as they would like, also if they do go forward and Sinclair or Dyer break away, they are very fast and I don't see them being caught and they can easily put a cross or 2 in our box where it can be put away. Our defence hasn't been watertight so far. As for Norwich we did have lots of chances but they dried up as the game wore on. After Norwich made it 1-1 I didn't really see us getting ahead again although Carroll did have that great chance in stoppage time where he should have buried the header but didn't. I think Bellamy should start not Downing. I don't see us keeping a clean sheet v Swansea.
  14. I would defo take a 1-0 and not get any grand ideas about 5-0 or 4-1. I am Welsh and Swansea are my second fav team behind Liverpool of course. I want Liverpool to win but I tell you Swansea are a good team. They play the ball around and don't get intimidated often. They are doing well and really should have a few more points than they do have. I fear another Norwich where we find it hard. Swansea have Scott Sinclair wide left and Nathan Dyer wide right and both have pace to burn. Our full backs will have a game on their hands with those pair. Also the goalie Vorm has been very good so far. Swansea are no gimmee Liverpool fans.
  15. From what I have seen of Shelvey I like him. I think he could be a very good player. Experience in playing games is what he needs at his age. Staying at Liverpool getting 10 mins twice a month won't help him much, and that's what Kenny and Shelvey himself knew. A hat trick from midfield won't hurt at all. Well done Jonjo!
  16. Le Tissier, Beckham and Shearer never had loads of pace and both were top players I would say. I do agree that pace helps but it isn't a must. Certain players don't have it and it doesn't matter.
  17. I don't remember Diouf being called the new Henry, although I am happy to be corrected if it was the case but I seem to recall Djibril Cisse was the next Henry.
  18. I think we all hope for the best but fear the worst here. I think when niggly injuries start and then turn into worse ones than originally thought, it's normally the beginning of the end. Think Bryan Robson, Roy Keane, Ronnie Whelan, Paul Gascoigne, Jan Molby, Chris Sutton, Dion Dublin, John Barnes, Gary Pallister, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes. There's a million examples. I really fear now that we will see Gerrard miss more games than he plays until he packs it in. Now please don't twist my words and say that I'm saying he should quit here and now and shoot me down saying I'm talking crap, I am just saying I fear the decline has set in and our Gerrard of old is no more.
  19. I trust Kenny very much too as a man manager, I worship the man but he has bought some stinkers before. He bought us Nicky Tanner and Jimmy Carter! My brother is a Villa fan and when Downing played for Villa and I watched them, he seemed to me to be pretty average. A typical Villa player if you like. When we bought him for 20 million I thought we overpaid by 7 million and Villa must be very happy with that price. Villa bought him for around 12 million in 2009 and I personally don't think his 2 seasons for Villa were amazing enough to shoot his value up by 8 million pounds. Right now after 2 months he has performed as I pretty much expected.
  20. Anyone remember a brilliant McManaman goal at Highbury in 1997. It was a screamer and flew past Dave Seaman. We wore that awful yellow kit that day.
  21. Downing has been pretty bad hasn't he. Carroll has got a lot of stick but the media haven't really said too much about Downing but he really hasn't been up to it. I never really rated him much and I thought we paid silly money for him. On the plus side Jose Enrique is really great. Better than Clichy I would say.
  22. Ronnie Whelan v Leeds Utd at Elland Road in 1992-93 season in a 2-2 draw. Along the lines of last night's goal really but without the nutmeg. Whelan got the ball outside the area and floated a curling chip into the top corner past John Lukic I think.
  23. Losing 0-1 and then 1-2 to Havant and Waterlooville at HOME!!! Gerrard's long range goal in injury time v West Ham in 2006. That we swapped Marsh and Burrows for Dicks. Fowler's 4 min hat-trick v Arsenal in 1994. They just didn't let many goals in at the time. That we sold Dean Saunders to Villa when their next match was at Villa Park against us! Sell the guy AFTER the match. He scored 2 against us that day.
