  1. If this was a year or 2 years ago, we could have stomached it. But we are in a critical phase, if we don't get top four this year we can forget about it for the distant future. Gerrard and Rodgers have practically said it themselves. Selling him to Arsenal would basically seal our fate. So just don't fucking sell him to Arsenal.
  2. We must not sell to Arsenal under any circumstances.
  3. Henderson is starting to look like a very good player for me.
  4. This piece should be pinned to the forum. Hits nail on head. If this were footy manager, 50 million would be brilliant, but it's not, and the best players will join teams with more pulling power than us right now. Unearth a gem? S heard to do, scouting networks are global, and the best players generally get picked up by the best clubs. And the richest clubs stockpile the talent these days. If we sell Suarez to Arsenal, we sell them 4th place, simple as that. And after that, we accept our place as a mid table team.
  5. If we are under no legal obligation to sell him, then don't sell him to Arsenal. Let him go on strike, let him go to court, let him train alone. Sell him in January to whoever is willing to take him then. We wouldn't have strengthened Arsenal and fucked ourself, even if we lose 20 million off his value. His reputation as a professional will be permanently tarnished. I am praying the club are seeing it this way too.
  6. Exactly. We could just about lose him to City or Chelsea, as painful as that would be. We simply can't sell him to Arsenal. It will be the nail in the coffin for us as a team with realistic ambitions of competing at the top end of the league. We'd be better off paying Real Madrid 10 million to take him, than giving him to Arsenal.
  7. The funny thing is, Arsenal fans are now saying that unless they get Suarez, the best they can hope for is 4th place this season. If we sell to them, we pretty much guarantee it. We must not sell to them, if we don't have to, don't. Keep raising the price by 5 million to flush them out. Call it the domestic tax. If, as seems most likely, Real do come in for him, then he can go. 55 million won't necessarily make us stronger, but it won't strengthen our rivals either.
  8. This season is a real crossroads for us, if we don't make it then it's 5 years out of the champions league, and we're officially a mid table team. If we sell Suarez to Arsenal, who we are realistically aiming to compete with for a top 4 spot, along with Spurs, then it's over before it started, unfortunately. No player is irreplaceable, yes, but which players of the right calibre can we realistically sign?
  9. High hopes for him this season. I think having him, Ibe, Aspas and AN other competing to play other side of Suarez/Sturridge gives us a strong look. I'm assuming Coutinho and Alberto are earmarked for the no 10 role now Mikky isn't coming, although some games Coutinho could play on the left of the 3 if we go with a solid 3 in the middle. I hope Downing will leave, otherwise he'll be in that mix as well. We definitely need another attacking player.
  10. I like Reina, and I didn't want him to leave. I liked the idea of bringing in a very highly rated young keeper to challenge, that looked like a competitive move. Mignolet gets to determine whether this is a bad move or not. If he comes in and makes us no weaker, then it's a success. If he doesn't, then the only person whose going to come out of this looking better is Reina. Seems a bit of a risk to take for a move that will make us, at best, based on the form of the 2nd half of last season, no weaker, rather than stronger.
  11. They wrote Barton Fink in 2 weeks while having a break from finishing Miller's Crossing. True story.
  12. mmm...Don't they quite often try to mirror some of the fixtures? Reading too much into that I think. Anyway looking at the fixture list we should win every game in August and September and be top with 27 points by the time we go to Arsenal in October. I think we may win the league with a record points total, goals scored and goals conceded.
  13. If we pull these deals off, I will have a spectacular wank. Is Atsu any good?
  14. Oh well. Looks like we need a new forward.
  15. Spain have been incredible so far. Suarez barely touched it. Doesn't do much for his valuation so far.
  16. Isn't it more that the bigger clubs give away less chances than the smaller ones, therefore the keeper can be inactive for most of the game, and the rare occasions they are called upon they have to be ready? As opposed to a smaller club when you have more to do, and the odd mistake is more acceptable? That's why before Reina we had years of keepers who had been highly rated before, but when it came to the big club scenario didn't quite have the concentration and nerve to handle it. That's why United had years of keeper problems before they signed Van Der Sar. And why a keeper who you know can handle that pressure at a top club isn't one you casually discard.
  17. How would I go about looking at this record, and/or organisations endorsed? Also we just signed Kolo Toure, pretty sure that contradicts quite a lot of this thread.
  18. What the fuck is this Reina debate? Do people not have memories? For years not just us, but the Mancs struggled with keeper after keeper, because there is a fundamental difference between playing for mid or lower table club where you have plenty to do, loads of opportunities to shine, and your team lets in enough goals that the odd mistake isn't that noticeable, or even the odd shoddy kick or throw, and playing for a team like us. Until either Begovic or Mignolet play for a club like that (I don't think either are that good), then it is pure speculation, and a ridiculous risk to take. Reina must stay, and anyone who doesn't back him doesn't understand that form is temporary, class is permanent (form is back now, made some great saves tail end of the season), and also what it takes to play in goal for a club like ours.
  19. Quite often this thread is depressing. We don't have enough money to compete for the top players, so why suggest them. We have a squad full of of average British players acquired for expensive fees over the last couple of years which have taken us from Champions League challengers, to mid table mediocrity. So why not try a different approach. I look at the likes of Porto, and Dortmund, who have acquired young talent from across Europe and the world, and grown with them. Take Jackson Martinez, we were linked with him for about 2 years, joins Porto last summer, now clubs are looking at paying 30 million plus for him. Coutinho was a good start in this respect, time will tell on Sturridge, I remain to be convinced that he quite has the game intelligence and decision making to play at the top level. But he does score goals so we'll see.
  20. I started watching it for the ridiculous amounts of sex and violence. And the hilarious dialogue. It still has all that, but for me became a genuinely great show, and had one of the best season finales I've ever seen.
  21. Mccarthy was very good, but none of the stops he made were 'unsaveable'. It was more poor finishing on our part, particularly the last chance Suarez had. Coutinho was motm for me, looked very lively throughout.
  22. Only watched 2nd half but what's up with Enrique? He's playing like he's pissed.
  23. This thread, brought to you by Football Manager. Play football. Watch it. Form a realistic opinion. Real Managers don't use sliders.
