  1. expected far worse in the article tbh, considering there's been a 'retraction' and a donation and having read some of the first responses in this thread the truth is somewhere in the middle and we all need to "get over it"
  2. This. When we are back up there things like this, hicks and gillette etc will make it so sweet. It will take a little while but it will be so sweet.
  3. what do you measure rafa benitez against? the way liverpool were 20 years ago?? how does our form in those years (above) compare with that of say arsene wenger and his team? what factors do you take into account? seriously what wonders do you expect in what our club has been through these past few years?!
  4. so 08/09 never happened after 2006? :wallbutt: we made progress 04/05 through to 08/09 and then had one bad season. we were fighting against some mega rich clubs and those with mangers settled for over 10 and 20 years. what more did you want?
  5. it will be disgusting if we go to utd with hodgson still in charge. we'll likely get beaten in any case but to have to be so humiliated to have a lame duck manager, practically mocking us with his friend ferguson.. there will be no words what are nesv waiting for? they knew three months ago they may need to change the manager. that point has come a few times over and we're still waiting. it's not like there is a ready made replacement is it?! - who would accept a short term role and wanted to step in in that capacity in the summer. they even have the possibility of our last manager free in liverpool. i'm sorry but we're over half way through the season and a few points off the bottom. our form if anything has got worse as we've gone on, what justification can there be to keep hodgson on.
  6. it was the logical decision in the summer once the illogical step of removing rafa was taken it's been staring nesv in the face for weeks and it's the only sensible decision they can come to.
  7. it's about perspective, when you get to the end of the season you look at where you are and how you got there. one bad season in six, against a background of hicks gillette, little to spend, beach ball goals and an injury plagued season up against man city and a spurs in their form of their lives. and no doubt rafa made mistakes inc the signing of aquilani i just don't think this was enough to remove the manager. like i asked before what if we had sacked shanks in the early years? even if some were still of the opinion that he should have gone, fair enough. but how could any sensible fan advocate it being done by purslow et al? that at least is where you have to accept what a mistake it was. some people had too much trust in the people in charge at the time. others could see that not only was it the wrong decision, it was not their decision to make
  8. spot on. i can't believe anyone put trust in the men who were running the club to make sound footballing decisions. if anyone had paid attention to the things purslow had said and done in the 1-2 years before i don't see how they would back his removal of the manager. broughton had his job to do and he did it well. the owners didn't give a shit and look where we are. the whole thing is scandalous and it boils my blood
  9. why did he need to go? and how could any supporter think that it was right for people like purslow, broughton, hicks or gillette making this kind of decision. ludicrous should we have done the same with shankly in his first few years? think back to what we achieved in the time rafa was manager. it might be a long time until we're there again.
  10. yeh it's such a bad level of Red, when people are angry and raw about where we are today and why we're here. it's been six months since we made a terrible decision and we're not far off relegation on current form. when was the last time we made a decision on a manager that split the fans so much? or was so controversial? people will continue to talk about the decision to remove rafa for a while yet and it's understandable. it's just that the people who thought it was the right thing for the club don't want to hear it or be reminded how bad a decision it was.
  11. it's a valid opinion if you are naive to think a top manager would come to us in the position we were in, hicks and gillette still our owners. a sensible fan would say we have had one bad season in 6, a european cup and another final, an fa cup and a good title run, spending about £20 mil a season. at times last season i thought it was time for rafa to go, but when you looked at what was best for the club i don't see how anyone could conclude it was right to remove our best manager for a long long time. worse still to remove him without a top replacement. this season really puts things in perspective, and certainly makes me appreciate what we had. where would utd be if they sacked ferguson after one bad season? what would we have gone on to do if we got rid of shankly? the manager needed support of those running the club
  12. this last season was a poor season by our general standards and in contrast to the five years that went before this is a whole new level.
  13. if ever there was an example of how not to be a manager..
  14. it's also stupidity on the part of manager in the context or him doing a terrible job and his comments about not upsetting ferguson, about utd wanting torres and his response (or lack of) when ferguson called torres a cheat, it isn't a good idea to shove his friendship in our face. against that background he really doesn't want to continue to act like fergusons bitch
  15. how do you manage to draw rafa into everything? and that is a ludicrous statement about him anyway
  16. it might be boring, it might have been posted a number of times before but just glancing through some of those it shows how far we've fallen as a club the manager is the most important man at a club and we have an absolute joke for one the person(s) who appointed him should be shot
  17. i don't think he ever said that even if he did and if that was the best he thought he could do with this team, he should never have taken this job you have to wonder what the interview was like with purslow
