  1. I honestly don't think Gerrard wants to leave. From that report and his demeanor this season it seems more to like he just wants a new manager for the club he loves. Don't think Torres will leave either and Masch will only go if he gets a better offer.
  2. Does anybody else remember Bascombe breaking the Alonso story about his agent asking Rafa to let him leave the night before last season's final match? He does occasionally get things right, ocassionally. Let's hope that isn't the case this time.
  3. I was thinking about our season review dvd today. I wonder how many copies of that we're going to sell this year?
  4. Riera wasn't there and last year he wasn't either, it's his birthday today.
  5. No matter how painful this season has been at times, at least we were spared the humiliation of Newcastle possibly taking points off us. Anyway they're a properly supported club, so good for them.
  6. Do we only have no budget if we fail to make the Champions League?
  7. Here a recent quote from Tomkins that explains why he is so annoying: That expression about sitting on a high horse really fits him.
  8. Good for Carra. It was about the stuff Tomkins implied about Carra's family being against Rafa. “Hi Paul, It’s Jamie Carragher…†| The Tomkins Times | Paul Tomkins' blog about Liverpool Football Club (LFC) tomkinsfoolery
  9. Stevie, he always seems to carry the weight of the world (club) on his shoulders. I wish for him to start enjoying his football again.
  10. Have a feeling it will be Spurs, but hope we will.
  11. I don't know what the situation is going to be, but my guess is that if we don't get fourth place our budget for new players is going to be around zero again. I wonder which 5 of his teammates Torres thinks need to be upgraded?
  12. The biggest danger of making McLeish our new manager is that he might bring Lee Bowyer with him.
  13. It's impressive, what he's done with Birmingham this season. It would be interesting to have a British manager again, I've forgotten what it's like. If it's true that from now on our aim is supposed to be top 6 every season, then I think he would be suitable. If we haven't lowered our aims by that much yet, then we should try to get someone better in.
  14. The best thing for Real Madrid would be to keep Pellegrini. He plays the attractive football they like, unlike Mourinho and Benítez. He's also got good CL experience with Villarreal and next year, when his team has gelled more, I'm sure he could get them into the quarters. There was a poll about his future on Marca right after the Lyon game and the majority of the fans voted for him to stay.
  15. Whenever I watch Gerrard for England he hardly looks interested in playing for them either. Even when he was captain last time against Egypt. I don't think he likes playing on the left (doesn't he call it the graveyard shift?) and that whole spiel about him and Lampard not being compatible. I remember some of his matches in the last World Cup where it seemed like he was just wandering around the pitch for 70% of the match. Sure, he has the occasional game where plays like the Gerrard we all know, but most of the time not really.
  16. The only way Gerrard should ever leave the club if it's a mutual decision between him and the club. If the new manager or Rafa wants to bench Gerrard, then I fully support him. That's a different matter. Besides, that most likely would also make Gerrard want to leave, so it wouldn't even be a decision the manager would have to make anymore.
  17. So a new manager comes and presumably this would mean that Gerrard is happy again, but then the new manager has to sell him anyway because he's had one bad season? I do see the point in selling him while his value is high to rebuild the squad, but that can only happen if Stevie wants to leave. If or rather when we lose Gerrard and Carra we will lose a lot of our identity, they're such a big part of who we are as a club. IMO we should make sure that both of them finish their careers with us, hopefully with a bit more medals than they have now.
  18. Don't we miss Parry in some way? It's weird that our first season without him has gone down so quickly. Maybe he kept Rafa in check? About Aquilani, I don't know, maybe Rafa can play Gerrard on the left and Aquilani in the hole? To help him settle.
  19. I couldn't really answer the question either. There's still a chance (though it looks a very tiny one now) to end this season on a high note and for Rafa to prove himself. Maybe if we at least start playing better and more inspired football and subsequently the whole atmosphere surrounding the club starts to improve again, then maybe he deserves another season. We could write this season off and have a clean slate. But next season would have to absolutely be better than this one. If by the end of this season the majority of the players and/or fans seem to have lost faith in him instead, then I don't see how things will be better next season (unless of course he recieves some enormous financial backing ;)).
  20. Carra?? I do agree about Gerrard's attitude partially, but we haven't played any better or more spirited when he's been injured.
  21. There was a film or a documentary a couple of years ago that I read about that was about the Darwin awards. The awards for the most stupid ways people have managed to get themselves killed. Don't know if they really exist, but maybe something similar to that.
