  1. Stop blaming the ref. We are bringing ourselves in these situations due to poor players upfront and playing a midfielder as right back. We are incohesive due to Gakpo who simply are good enough for PL, Diaz who is a poor mans Robben ( very limited player except for cutting inside). Due to this we cant trap a ball and the opponents are having such an easy time evey game. If Nunes and Jota are not good enough to play instead of these two nu they should be sold. We need a right back this window. Arnold should never, ever play rb again.
  2. Guys - why so dissapointed. The era of this team is finished. We've bough a lot of fine players, but none of the transfers from the last two years really fits the structure of Klopps way of playing/the earlier style that won the PL. Gakpo, Diaz, Nunez, etc. etc. all of them nice players, but none replaces those who left/got old. They don't have the same production in goals etc. Last season was on fumes as well, even with all the points and finals. But many games were dire, and we won on routine + the others teams fear for us. But every final showed the same thing, that we don't have it anymore. We scraped two wins and got whiped the other two. This season is not a writeoff, its just the new standard. It's the quality we have now. Even Salah is no where near the same player as he was in 19-20. He scores a lot of goals, but has lost a lot of pace/can't dribble anymore. And he's still our best player (perhaps after Alisson). 23-24 season will be the same. Our old worldclass players are not what they were, and the new simply hasn't replaced the old guard. Two new midfielders won't make us challengers again. I love Klopp. I don't want to see him go. But I can't see him making us challengers with Diaz, Gakpo, Nunez etc. My biggest gripe is our dire playstyle. Every player is playing inverted. Right midfield (Harvey), right, left striker (Gakpo, Salah). Etc. etc. it's all centered through the middle. Every counter is the same, instead of a wide just doing the oldschool think, going to the backline and make a low cross, it's passes through the middle. It's slow and lack of imagination.
  3. Thiago together with Alisson was my MOTM. I don't understand the criticism to be honest of the defence. Our problem as it has been for much of the season is that our forwards cannot keep the ball or run past a defender anymore. Mane/Salah doesn't have the pace and lose almost all 1on1s. When you require a high defensive line as Klopp does it will make the defence look silly, when you constantly loose the ball, but it's not their fault. The second half got better, but compare our forwards with City, thats the issue. They can play football... Our forwards are better at pacy counterattack. Our defense and midfield are the reason we are doing so well this season. They are the spine. It's so weird listening to all the Trent criticism. He's required to go forward all the time, and when Salah can't trap the ball he will be out of position. Our defense battled hard but got overrun, because of all the losses of possession. Sure - a world class KDB will hurt everyone.
  4. Entertaining team - definitely not boring. Direct style, creative. I like watching them. It doesn't have to be about possession all the time. They clearly deserved to win against Chelsea wednesday night.
  5. Best player in the red shirt for me. Gerrard close second, Kenny third.
  6. Perhaps it's because I'm from Denmark, or my English or knowledge on Liverpool is not big enough, but I just DON'T get it. Gibberish for me. :-)
  7. What happened to getting a Wanyama or someone like that (Schneiderlin)? I'd rather have a strong MC than another offensive weapon.
  8. He doesn't want to be here. Even though he's used excuses like England doesn't like him, he's not even distancing himself from the Arsenal connection. Unhappy players are bad for team morale. Why have him moaning around when can get others in who want to be here? Fernandos last year with us was horrible even though he still scored goals. You wanna cheer a guy like that?
  9. I just think it's weird saying he's in the same class as them, when clearly most people would pick the other two ahead of him. Anyway - get rid. No player is bigger than the club. We have lost players before and come back. And with the money the sale will bring we could build a better team, even though we will not get a player as good as him.
  10. At least I'm trying to explain why I have the opinion I have. But I guess you wouldn't swap Suarez for Messi then. Fair enough then.
  11. I just feel there are different levels. I think it's pretty simple really. If you would trade Suarez for Messi / Ronaldo, then they aren't really in the same class are they?
  12. Absolutely not, I just couldn't really think of anyone else that deserves the tag. Casillas has dropped in form. Ramos maybe is world class and Xavi as well.
  13. I just did. Messi & Ronaldo. They are lethal finishers, better dribblers, quicker, don't go mental and get suspensions. Put it another way, do you guys seriously believe Suarez is as good as those two? So you would not trade him for either Ronaldo or Messi if you had the chance? If this is NOT the case, then ok - let's call Suarez world class, but then we need to find another category for Ronaldo and Messi. How about universal class? If he played for the scum would you still call him world class?
  14. Messi & Ronaldo are worldclass. Thiago Silva, Xavi, Bale, Suarez, Van Persie, Ramos, Vidal etc. are fantastic -but not world class. Suarez wastes to many chances, percentage wise not a very good dribbler and his antics on the pitch lets him down. I'm not trying to say he he is not good, because he is - he's very good. But World Class, no. Many see Suarez as a fantastic dribbler, and yes he does do some fantastic things, but more often than not he loses the ball trying to take the defender on, where he should have instead laid the ball of etc. Torres was a world class striker in his first 3 years at Liverpool.
  15. Put him in the reserves or get rid to a foreign team. He signed a new contract recently and he's almost burned all bridges. Yes Suarez is a fantastic - but not world class. Besides, he's sulky and egoistic as few. As fun as it is seeing him score goals, I bet he's not among the popular players in the team. Besides, Rodgers proved in january he can buy good players and with 40 million in his pockets, he should be able to buy two stars to replace him. Besides, Torres in his prime was world class, he was immense. Torres is a STRIKER, Suarez is a forward. I don't think Suarez will be a lone striker for any team (succesful team).
  16. I was fortunate NOT to see the first 20 minutes (turned on after 20 minutes). What I saw was a very good Liverpool side battling hard to gain superiority and doing really well. Spurs only had "control" for around 10-15 minutes in the second half. Our passing was good, and we had some brilliant movement at times. Our main problem seems to be we lack the urge to get into the box more often. As the players don't trust each other that the ball will come through, or a cross WILL succeed. It's pretty interesting - and painful that Jose Enrique is so good at left wing. He's actually our 2. best attacking player in the squad right now after Suarez. He has no apparent technical abilities, but his physical and mental abilities are very good and allows him to bully defenders and keep the ball away from them. Sterling for me is a little up and down in games, but what a gem we have. He defends well (helps Johnson a hell of a lot more than Downing did when he played left wing), and keeps trying to create something even though Walker was tight in defence. He made himself available for a pass as well. Only 17 years old. I'm sure it won't be long before Andy Gray (if he still had a decent job) would be saying "Take a bow son" regularly to Sterlings performances in the red shirt. The only negative thing I have to say about a player is Downing. Apart from some Saudi Arabian sheiks, Dalglish bought the most expensive pussy in the world last year with Downing. That guy have no guts, no belief, no urgency or passion. What a disaster. Now - what people need to understand is that, Liverpool is still a top 4 club regarding finance, support, merchandise etc. But we are not a top 4 club anymore on the playing field. A number of smaller clubs (Everton, Spurs, perhaps even Newcastle) now have better squads than us, and this will take some time to change especially since FSG most likely used the "sugardaddy" kitty last summer on Kennys failure signings. I have no doubt that Rodgers will get us back up top again, but as said earlier - have patience. Some will say we have a better squad than some of the clubs mentioned before, perhaps, but remember these squads are assembled for playing styles introduced by their managers years ago. Rodgers have inherited a squad that on paper looks fine, but not to his tikitaka style way. We have played some decent football this year - a lot more than the points we have to show for, but this year will be a transitional year - hopefully for the better. I think what I'm saying is, take a step back, zoom out and look at the bigger picture. We are regrouping. Our owners are not perfect, but these guys saved us from something that would be much worse. They supported Kenny with a huge spending purse and it failed. The club now has to live with that - and Rodgers as well. We are not spending to win this year and making dreadful stopgap signings because we need to win now - but instead building for the future. We are putting kids into the side who are doing well, and grooming them for the future. I know it's painful, but it's the right way when you can't compete financially.
  17. Lucas and Spearing had a big role in the uprising of Liverpool last season under Dalglish and to be honest, I feel their partnership have been missed this year. Spearing like Lucas is not the creative force like Gerrard or Adam, but he keeps the ball moving, quick first touches and gets the ball passed on. We look much more assured on the ball with these two in the middle. Gerrard / Adam should NOT be played in the middle, I think game after game have showed that we lose control of the midfield all too often with them. Gerrard should be used wide right or in the "hole" behind the striker. Summed up - I like Spearing, he gives us control of the midfield and is excellent at shortpassing (better than Gerrard in my opionion). Now I absolutely love Gerrard, but feel he is misplaced in a MC position. I'd love to see us in some kind of 4411 Suarez Downing Henderson Gerrard Lucas Spearing Enrique Agger Carragher Kelly I know that this is perhaps not our most prolific team, but it's the best TEAM imo and would control and create a bunch of chances.
  18. Thanks Antyawa - it needs to be said I'm from Denmark, so by car - I mean renting one. Thats also why it's important I have the tickets before we are on the plane. I don't want to be the scapegoat when we are outside Anfield with no tickets and YNWA is roaring :-)
  19. I've been a long time lurker on this forum and thoroughly enjoy the banter around here. However, now is the time to experience it live, so me and some of my friends want to visit Liverpool and watch a home game and perhaps one or two other PL fixtures if they can be squeezed in. One of my friends is a bluenose and would like to see Everton as well (I have no problem with that as I have sympathy for them too). I thought asking you guys here at TLW would be a clever thing to do, as many of you are locals or out of towners who visits Merseyside often. So here are some questions some of you may be able to answers: 1: Hotels - which ones are recommended? Luxury is not needed. We are here to enjoy the area, not the hotel. 2: If we were to see another game or too in the same week, or weekend, which areas would be the easiest to travel to? E.g. Liverpool at home, perhaps Blackburn away or something? 3: Do you recommend car, bus or train? 4: Regarding tickets, I'd prefer tickets to the Centenary Stand or Main Stand, how is the best way of obtaining them? 5: Anything else I should know?
