  1. Remember for years we were told taxes absolutely couldn't be raised on the rich because they'd disappear abroad?
  2. C'mon now, no one reads the small print. I haven't a clue what my Chester Zoo membership or gym pass agreements say.
  3. Fuck that, wasps are cunts and it's a basic human right to run around squealing and thrashing about at the mere sight of them. They should get off their arses and get another job to feed themselves rather than trying to steal my hard-earned food like a bunch of stripy socialists.
  4. Same, very stylish, a more than decent story and doesn't drag the way Preacher can do. @Trumo you've picked a good time to start it, the second series came out at the weekend, I've been waiting since last Summer...
  5. To be fair, there must be tens of thousands of OAPs in care homes that get choked to death by police every year, the fact they coincidentally had Covid-19 is neither here nor there.
  6. I really don't get what the point is. Daily Mail columnists sure, they want to turn it into a culture war, raise their profile and keep the gravy train flowing. On here to a few hundred active posters? Strange.
  7. Yep- https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jul/21/analysis-why-englands-covid-19-death-toll-is-wrong-but-not-by-much It makes a good talking point for conspiracy theorists and right wing tabloid commentators to trot out to try and downplay things though. In Scotland there's a cut off point of 28 days, so although there have been no deaths reported in the official figures here for the last couple of weeks, at least 4 people died last week after being in intensive care for over 4 weeks.
  8. I dunno, they've always had the sort of teeny New Romantic image, but they were very successful and sold over 100 million records. They were also pretty important for MTV with their glossy videos and were a more than decent live band too. You wouldn't really describe them as heavyweight, but they were a very good pop band and certainly weren't a novelty act.
  9. Because of you? Bit harsh.
  10. Fuck's sake. Were we always this stupid?
  11. Heh, I went for Middlesbrough vs Ipswich for their draw with Deacon Blue.
  12. Piss poor spelling of She's a Superstar. I saw them at Glastonbury in '93 in a graveyard Sunday spot, then at V98 in Leeds as headliners, both times were superb.
  13. Think it's best to stick with the originals, there's already been some 'big name' bands going out due to the luck of the draw.
  14. Sorry mate, it's a quote from American Psycho. I left in the bit about him getting the escort to eat the other girl's ass...
  15. Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically.
  16. As much as I like The Specials, there's only one winner here.
  17. Been a big genesis fan, ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that I didn't really understand any of their work, it was too artsy, too intellectual. It was on duke where Phil Collins presence became more apparent. i think invisible touch is the group's undisputed masterpiece, it's an epic meditation on intangibility at the same time it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding 3 albums. Christy, take off the robe. listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of banks, Collins and Rutherford you can practically hear every nuance of every instrument, Sabrina. remove your dress, in terms of lyrical craftsmanship and sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism, Sabrina why don't you uh, dance a little! take the lyrics to "Land of Confusion", in this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980's, about monogamy and commitment, the song is extremely uplifting. their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as uh, anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your ass. Phil Collins solo career, it seems to be more commercial. and therefore more satisfying in a narrower way. especially songs like, in the air tonight and against all odds. Sabrina dont just stare at it, eat it! I also think, Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group than as a solo artist, and i stress the word artist! This is Sussudio, great, great song. personal favourite.
  18. ELO are great, I didn't realise they weren't in the 64. Jeff Lynne is an absolute god and one of the most self-effacing men in rock.
  19. OCS caught a train and I bet they didn't even go first class.
  20. There is an element of that, but I'd argue that Gang of Four's influence was immense even though they never really took off in terms of popularity. Their late 70s early 80s stuff still sounds very fresh today as well.
  21. Never saw these and only recently got into them, but they're fantastic-
