Nice as it is to see others slip up, it’s all moot unless we step up. Can see tomorrow’s game being a bit shit as Mourinho won’t go hung ho against us, we’ll likely dominate possession if that’s the case, so, we have to make that count in a way we haven’t recently. What tonight’s results have shown is, city apart, how easy this league would be to win if......well you know the drill by now.

I get confused about the financials involved in football, but what I am more certain of is that we are probably in the best financial shape we’ve been in for years, if not ever. That is down to how FSG have handled the commercial side, and the fact that Jurgen, his staff and the players have handled their side of things. That balance has been upset because of the injuries we have suffered and because the decision to take a chance on going into the season with the squad we had has backfired. To that end, different action has to be taken than has before, and planning that relied on the expectations last summer has to be changed. To not do so will be taking the foot off united’s neck that we’ve had there pretty much since Ferguson fucked off, allowing what was a dispirited city to come back at us, and will allow several other teams, Everton included, to be given a sniff of catching us up when that hope for them was non-existent after last season. I don’t believe that being concerned about this is over-reacting, but not doing anything about it is negligent.

I think this is the important point. Ashley Young was noted for knocking the ball past a player, going into a dive and “initiating contact” and got away with it for ages. He wasn’t, and isn’t, the only one. It was obvious from the replays that Barnes pushed his foot down onto Allison to get, or exaggerate, contact and it was, arguably, the only contact that was made. If exaggeration is the case, or whenever contact is initiated, it shouldn’t be a penalty in my eyes. The problem is whoever is making the decision through VAR will have their own definition of what is deliberate contact or not. And we know how that has gone in the recent past.

Baz, I agree with your comments to a large extent and appreciate you have been as vociferous as anyone else on here. I think the big difference this time though is Klopp has come out openly and said he’s not being backed, whereas before he’s kept his countenance. That marks a change for the worse for me and if FSG can let it get this far, perhaps they need a gee up from somewhere that they’re, once again, making the wrong decision.

I also have been somewhat reluctant to overly criticise the current owners, especially as it wasn’t too long ago that Hicks and Gillet were doing their best to ruin us, and they came along and acquired us to take us out of that shite. Now though, after Klopp has said publicly that he let it be known that a centre half would be required, and got fucked off, they deserve to be pulled about why it is exactly they can’t afford for us to buy what Klopp wants, after all, he’s brought about as much financial success on the pitch as has been possible over the last 3 years as you can get. I don’t want to switch on the TV to find Klopp has walked because they wouldn’t back him when he feels we needed strengthening. Maybe it’s time SOS or similar got in touch and let it be known there’s growing disquiet amongst the troops.

Have to say I didn’t like Klopp’s demeanour both on the line and during his post match interview. He looked bewildered to me, and was clearly exasperated about what was going on during the game. His spat with Dyche was probably what goes on between managers more than we think, but usually he laughs at them, as he did at Mourinho when he claimed the better team lost. That he took the blame on himself was standard manager speak for when you’re trying to protect your players. I hope this isn’t getting to him too much and he decides a break is what he needs.

Maybe the secret is to hammer it low and hard across the box, the grocks can’t adjust their feet as quickly and you’ve more chance of a ricochet going in, which quite frankly, I’d take at the moment.

Lots of chickens coming home to roost at the moment, and just like Watford ending the unbeaten run last season, it was odds on it would be some no mark team to beat us and end the undefeated run at home. We still have the players that have been brilliant over recent seasons, but we can’t put them on the pitch at the same time for a variety of reasons, mainly injuries, and may not be able to do that at all this season. There is no doubt whatsoever though that not buying from a position of strength has badly affected our ability to keep up, and I hope that our owners realise, very quickly, that their “asset”won’t be as valuable out of the top four at attracting the talent required to keep their “asset”increasing in value as they would like. Blaming it on the Coach is the usual fall back when things go tits up, but unless there’s a genius like Klopp somewhere else that I haven’t heard of, that route isn’t likely to bring them any improvement either. They have 10 days to make a start in getting the balance of this team back where it needs to be, or it might be more than this season that gets written off.

All the reasons given in the previous posts have some validity. Tiredness, lack of cover, injuries, VAR, referees etc. etc.. It isn’t one single thing that’s causing the obvious slump in form which has been going on since we confirmed the title really, and let’s not kid ourselves, we know we haven’t been right since then. Had that been the case, that it was one thing, I’m sure Klopp would’ve come up with a solution. How we deal with things going forwards is, I believe, two fold. Firstly we need players in to stop us having to play square pegs in round holes, so at minimum, one CB and a striker. Secondly, we need the crocked players back. The problem is we aren’t likely to see the first happening, and the second will only happen in time for next season probably in Virgil’s case. This season appears to have been written off unless there’s a sudden (and extremely unexpected) loosening of the purse strings for new players, if they are out there. It is what it is and the frustrating thing for us as supporters is that we can see that there’s nobody better out there, other than City, maybe, who could challenge should we improve even 10% more than we are currently.

Rooney was a very very good striker, his goals record backs that up. Taking aside that he only really pulled on an Everton or United shirt in his career (apart from England as well) the one thing I felt he could have helped with, given the almost god like position he had at old toilet, was the enmity between us and them. As I recall it, Arsenal were no shrinking violets either, so a video of outtakes by an Arsenal website can’t really be taken as unbiased. Having said that, and given Clattenberg’s comments yesterday, is it any surprise that with Riley in charge of the referees we’re getting nothing from them? Sunday might be a VAR-fest like no other, I think we could be doing well to get a draw, whereas without any thoughts of any skullduggery, we could still beat them, even given our injuries. Is that a conspiracy filled, hysterical fanny like reaction too far? Hopefully it will turn out to be.

It’s not been our way for years, apart from the odd player or incident. Generally we get on with things and hardly ever crowd the ref, you can see Hendo having a go sometimes, Milly too, but they usually get waved away. It’s not something I like to see from our players, but Corinthian values don’t get you a penalty when you’ve been illegally tackled and stayed on your feet or get one of the opposition sent off when you get straight up after being brought down.....again. The behaviour of the team reflects how they are coached and for that Klopp should be applauded and the officials know who the cunts are and who aren’t. That they condone the cunts says a lot about how the game in this country has gone.

That Oliver has come out now and admitted his shortcomings in not sending Pickford off is, I feel, somewhat suspicious. Normally these things are kept muted. He wouldn’t have said this without the PGMOL knowing or perhaps even condoning it surely? I can’t help feeling the timing, with us playing United next, is too convenient. Perhaps I’m looking too much into it, but it’ll be interesting to see how the decisions go on Sunday, I won’t be holding my breath about who gets any contentious decisions though.
