  1. i remember when owen came into the team at a similar age he was banging in goals right left and centre. Although you might say that sterling is a winger he hasn't really provided many decent crosses or assists (wigan game excluded) and i reckon that we are bigging him up too much just because of his age. His performances don't merit £50k per week and as many people have said if you are on that money at the age of 18 are you still going to be trying to improve and earn a better contract or are you just going to coast through the contract, earn your £10m and leave having never stepped up a level. This game is full of people who have been the next best thing at 18 and gone onto do nothing. We should not be paying someone £50k per week on the basis of half a season of average performances. Thankfully i think brendan thinks likewise.
  2. I reckon fsg would only seriously contemplate it at over £60m due to age, length of contract and Lfc total dependance on him and the lack of any injuries (to Suarez) . Can't see city going that high !!!
  3. This is obviously meant to replace the hospitality areas of the main stand which I reckon will be down at the end of next season (12-13) for the new main stand to be built - planning permission for that is a whole lot more complicated so this is just the first step.
  4. You can hardly blame fsg if they did reduce size of funds available - the £36m on downing and henderson was a huge waste however well they perform in the future and Lfc are now a team looking for value rather than overpaying for mediocre players. I don't expect any acquisitions over £10m
  5. I reckon he will stay based on the £10m cost of getting rid of him, the recent improvement in the Carroll/Suarez partnership and the uncertainty that any replacement would be any better ( see avb) !
  6. Kenny has two years to run of a 3 year contract costing 4m per year - sacking him would cost another £8m we can't afford. I am sure the owners are thinking that bringing back rafa would only lead to the same old problems ( players knowing they will have place in team no matter what, constant demands for new players). My guess is kenny will be given one more season bringing in some continental players in the hope of finding a tiote/cabaye/cisse and hoping Henderson, carroll step up a level and sell some of the failures ( Adam, downing, spearing) and older players (kuyt, maxi). I reckon net spend will be £25m maximum - nowhere near enough to even challenge for top 4 !
  7. accounts should be out tomorrow for people to read - then i would expect some more objective analysis than that provided by Ayre - i.e. how did we lose £50m when even taking out the £35m stadium writeoff we made still a £40m profit on Torres.
  8. The post from Wikipedia are facts ( assuming they are true !) . I want more than anyone for him to have a blinder on Saturday and I can't see that posting this will do any harm rather it should inspire the fans to get behind him and give him the support he is going to need. And even if he does concede a hat-trick to straquilersi then I for one won't be giving any abuse- he has had much more significant things in his life than conceding a few goals against everton
  9. From wikipedia - doesn't bode well. At the end of March, Jones joined Derby County on loan for the remainder of the 2010–11 season.[7] Jones made his début in a 4–1 loss to Cardiff City and went on to concede 16 goals in his seven games at Derby, including another four against Burnley (2–4) and three against Norwich City (2–3). He came in for criticism from Derby manager Nigel Clough after his mistake let Bristol City take an early lead in Derby's final home game of the season, in a match the club eventually lost 2–0. It turned out to be Jones' last Derby game
  10. Think he lost his cup final place to kuyt with that performance - he was gutted when he came off because he knew he had a shocker and it was his cup final place to lose !
  11. If you look at everton they made the money they received on Rooney last about 5 years - we spent the torres money far too rashly and quickly - even on carrolls form at the time he was never worth more than 20m - we have lost 25m on on stupid decision !
  12. I think it has helped in this case that the Oldman chairman is himself an LFC fan and therefore appreciates that anything that can be done to reduce the impact will be helpful.
  13. We have got 7 points out of 9 since spearing has been out - hardly shows we have missed him !
  14. The way I see it is you are not going to get every transfer right both buying and selling - some you win, some you lose - it is looking like we overpaid by £20m on carroll, underpaid £10m each on suarez and enrique and overpaid about £10m on Henderson but we probably made an extra 20m on torres - all of which proves that transfer values are impossible to judge although I do think that comolli does get hoodwinked now and again
