  1. I hope that Broughton and Co considered the other bids before dismissing them for commerical reasons. I would hate the judge to order in the interest of natural justice that the board has to reconsider...
  2. 9 point deduction, NESV may have to reconsider... This is all spin before the court date. Broughton is a wiley oul fox making it harder for a british judge to not approve the sale. I like his style
  3. This is what really impresses me. We have only played part of hands. We have predicted what C &A are going to try and we have aplan in store for that. Ride em both MArty... Ride em
  4. Must say I have been impressed by Brougtond interview. Its nice to have a professional running the club. Only time and hindsight will tell if John Henry is the best possible option - but anyone who finds fault with how Broughton (ablely abetted it appears by Purslow and Ayres) has managed the process and managed to wipe the eye of Gillette and Hickys has myopia of the worst kind. AS fans I do not think we can ask for more than how he the team of "three" has conducted itself particulary in the past 24 hours. It echos Smith and Robinson at their best. Even though he is a Chelsea fan... I think Broughton (and Purslow and Ayres) has earned a place (on eveidence to date and hindsight not withstanding) on more than a footnote in the clubs history. If all is consluded before the derby - it would be nice to see the support acknowledging the fact at the game. In fact I would think all three have earned a place with the club going forward - I particulary would like Broughton to stay on.
  5. My original post was a knee jerk reaction to a low I have not felt since Souness time in charge. (At least then Souness was a hero of mine.) I do beleive he will be given the season to turn things around. I think (hope) he can do a better job - but no amount of ownership distractions can be used as an excuse for last nights performance. I think the fear of the vast majority as to Roy's level will prove to be correct. Hope not..
  6. overlook Kenny for a second time when they decide to replace Roy. I know its way to early into his reign to call for his head I know its not the liverpoolway to chase a manager out I know the club is going to great upheavel with the owners but roy is overhead his head. :wallbutt:
  7. No trying to be argumentive - but Tommy Smith, Graeme Souness, Steve McMahon - were not all angels. Neither was Keane for Utd. We need some steel in the team. I personally think we have been bullied in recent years in run of the mill Premier league games but lesser but tougher talents. He may actually be an inspired signing by Roy. And regarding Mascherano - I was at the Ireland Argentina game last night and the little git was a class above everyone elso on the pitch. He has not played at this level for liverpool over the past two seasons and personally I think good riddance when he goes.
  8. If they pay £20 million plus Jack Rodwell plus Cahill they can have him. I would even have Roy drive him across the park and through in Insua to keep him company. I have had enough of MAsch asfter two years griping PS I actually think it is more likely to be crouch as yakubu is heading to West Ham according to some reports.
  9. This syrain bid is the last throw of the dice by Gillette in my opiion and will be sen as a such by Broughtn, Purslow and Ayres. Unlike many on here I have full confidence in Broughton. Men of his stature in the business world care about their legacy and reputation. He is also a tough and capable individual to get to the positions he has in his professional life. He is in many ways the inverse of David Moores - DM had his familly money and not much else - Broughton is an achiever in his professional life and has "earned his stripes". I firmly beleive that if Kenny's or Kirdi's bid is accepted by Broughton & Co.then it is the better deal for the club as that has been Broughtons stated postion and objective (he only had to say in the past he was there to facilitate sale). I also think that whilst Purslow has done many things in his tenure that have not been to our liking - he is an astute business man with extensive corproate finance experience (again something Moores & Parry were lacking) and that in tandem with BRougton will make a very good M & A team. I predict more spin today / tomoorow with a statement late one evening this week that Kenny has won out.
  10. Well said Nando... this could be the summer of love for all Red fans. Cole, Gerrard, Nando and the owners (hopefully) leaving... Im so buzzed. I think this all points to money, investment and a bright future.
  11. My take on all this is... We are in play A deal is more likely to be done than not With regard to the Chinese bid I think Kenny's approach is 1) very agressive (i.e. by approaching the bank directly) 2) He is playing Hicks (Mr. LBO, leveraged buy out) at his own game 3) Offers a very nice solution for RBS bankers who are sitting on a pile of shite in their books (on the assumption he buys the debt... not clear if he is taking it over - if so is their an advantage to him taking over??) I think we Joe Cole signing Cecil may have pointed this was happening to him. Wee Joe might have been right... we may by the biggest club in every sense of the word soon. Im having a great summer guys
  12. I agree with all of the above. Also Roy giving a dig about the board is not out of line with him saying as he has done in the past that the owners need changing. the most interesting quaote was his dig about Sammy Lee not being able to give him much info about the opposition, even though he managed the only other PL club to play them in the past. Perhaps Sammy may not be long for this world.
  13. Dave U... I was only thinking that last night... Imagine. I have to say I am as excited about the coming season as I have been for a long time.
  14. Im delighted.... pity the number 10 shirt is gone to Milan.
  15. I thought it was Rick Parry who fancied himself as a goalie!!!!
  16. Beginning to get excited about next season... and have been checkin the .tv to see pictures of those who are back training with Roy etc. Nothing really there. I know the players are coming backing in dribs and drabs from Africa etc. however i was expecting Roy to have a higher profile. (maybe its a good thing he has not) - snaps of him at training etc. I also thought he would shake up the backroom team - but Sammy, Pelligrino and co are all in situ. Im surprised he does not have / want a confidant in place. Furthermore there is little real rumours about players. Im kinda underwhelmed so far.... unless Roy has returned to the old liverpool way and it all be done behind doors and announced when least expected.
  17. the pulling power of Roy and LFC... I dont know - most of my football conversatins dont make sense.. Im kinda thinking out loud just trying to stimulate debate. However I do beleive that our name still carries weight.
  18. As a kid growing up - I would spend hours every evening with my Dad talking about the team and who we would play etc. Still do with him when we are together. I love the debate. The arrival of a new manager has given me a sense of hope and anticipation for the new season that I was losing as things got more and more difficult under and / for Rafa. In these circumstances I find myself when I get a chance wondering what I do in Roy's shoes - considering 1) the questions marks about Fernando and Stevies will to be here 2) the questions as to their fitness (Fernando) and legs (Stevies) 3) the availibilty of funds or lack therof 4) Cecil's about 5) the need for an overhaul of the squad in a number of postions 6) Mashcerano probably going I find myself more and more thinking that with the limited budget of £15million to spend and no guarantee of being able to spend proceeds from sales how could I creatively improve our lot. In another thread someone mentioned the selling of rush and the arrival with the funds of Aldo, Barnes and Beardsley.... this got me thinking that if we lost our trinity of Fernando, Gerrard and Mascherano - could it be applied to improve the team. the overriding factor is the Cecil factor and the subsequent availability to Roy of sales proceeds. Fearing the worst... would you be tempted (on the basis Torres and Stevie say they wnt to go) for example: Take Cole, Malouda and £30million for Torres Take Alonso for Gerrard (or Van da Vart and €15million) Take Milito and Cambiasso for MAsherano Personally I think some swap deals like this could strenghten the team... I think Rafa was hampered by releying on Stevie and Fernando to dig us out and talent more evenly spread throught out the team might stadn us in better stead and swap deals will stop the yanks gettinh their hansd on the cash. any thoughts...
  19. I agree with all of the above. whilst he was not my first or second choice i have being quietly impressed by Roy over the past 24 hours and I am excited about football again for the first time in a couple of years. I sincerly hope that he will focus on the core job as Paul has said.. I alse felt that Rafa was wasting so much energy with all his battles away from the team that he was doing himelf an injustice.
  20. My first choice along was mourinho. When that was not happening and the King let it be known my heart lifted and I felt all was going to be ok. A 62 year old with a record in the lesser leagues is not what i want or eleive to be appropriate. that being said... I would like a manager who is not as political as the Rafa I would like a manger to be in place so that i can get on to looking forward to signings etc. He is not the SFG. He is as good if not better than the majority of other candidates (see above) or mcleish etc. I met him in a hotel outside Dublin when he was appointed manager of Blackburn. Celtic were playing a preseason friendly and staying at this hotel which was near my parents house. Barnes was manager and Kenny was DOF. I would think there is a relationship with Kenny going back this long on this spurious connection. I bumped into Roy on the way out, wished him best wishes with the job (put the mockers on him as it turned out) and had a really nice chat with what was genuine English gent and proper football man. If its Roy - Im mdelighted for him as a man to get should a great job as he is a good football man. I beleive he will do his best to prove his many doubters wrong. i do not beleive he is the patsy many think he will be. And I think he will surpise us. Roy - if you get it you and the team have my support. If you dont - and the King gets it Ill be happier though.
  21. Is there supposed to be a board meeting today to discuss candidates etc... anyone know if it is going ahead etc. Im going to get sacked if i keep checking this place and other sites for info for much longer. Im am slowy having a nervous breakdown at the thought of Kenny missing out.
  22. If Purslow and the board vote to make Hodgson their first choice as new manager over Kenny - will you see this as a) Incompetentcy gone mad - the Kings record is hands above Woy's even if he has been on extended gardening leave for ten years. (Not too mention he's every liverpools fans wet dream) b) It is a return to pragmatic professional mangement at the board level for the club and we are not turning into sentimentalists ala Newcastle and appointing for emotional reasons and its well done to the board for making and sticking to hard deceions in the clubs long term interest. Me I am salivatating at the thoughts of Kenny. But if the board thought he was out of the game and an individual currently managing was better suited then I would admire that resolve. I can see the logic that Roy is a statesman like figure which after the sometimes comical behviour of the Rafa years may bring some stability - whilst the cult of Kenny may be too much. Still want Kenny
  23. Dalglish for me. However I think it will be someone / thing completly left field. I am going to put a speculative tenner (euros though!! as it is left field) on Harry Redknapp. Financeas as they are he cant do much damage and hes a bloddy good manager
