Liverpool is where Downing wants to play next season not Arsenal, which is a massive boost for us. Plenty of times in the past we have been in for players and utd, chelsea and arsenal come in and they go there instead. We were his 1st choice, and he was ours. If we have to pay a little than we might have wished to secure our 1st choice left winger, then I say pay it. Too many times in the past we have settled for second best transfer targets and look where its got us. Dalglish knows what he's doing and I have faith in his vision for the team. He rebuilt our forward line after the sale of Rush in 87 and is trying to do the same after the sale of Torres in January. We became a better team back then and i think we will become a better team now. I reckon Downing will be a revelation for LFC playing alongside, Suarez, Carroll, etc, and with our new players added to the Dalglish factor, people really do need to believe in our teams aspirations for next season. At 10/1 Liverpool are an excellent each way bet for the Prem next season.

That witness testimony was gained in the most dubious of circumstances, ie he was driven in a police car handcuffed around the resort to the bar where the offence took place. Then handcuffed to a radiator in the police station as the people who were viewing the ID parade were wheeled into the station. In this country the case would be thrown out as the defendants case had been totally prejudiced, but in Bulgaria, in a justice system not advanced as ours, with a public baying for a conviction, sheilds fit the bill. The 2 other shitbags convicted of hooliganism regarding the same incident were the REAL culprits mates and shared a room with him, but when the police went the hotel looking for him, he wasnt in his room and shields room opposite was the room that got knocked on and when sheilds who was a big lad with a similar build answered the door, he was the one lifted, paraded around the resort for all the locals to see, handcuffed to a radiator, etc, etc, so he got the fucking blame. Its not rocket science. A fucked up justice system 2 & 2 = 5 they got the wrong man. The bulgarian government gave jack straw the green light to free him, why would they do that if they too were still convinced of his guilt? Shields has been let down at every level, and is 100% innocent. I know for a fact it wasnt him. the other fat headed scumbag shithouse did it. he admitted it publically(albiet in a half arsed confession which he later retracted) and privately to plenty of people who know him. A good friend of mine was sat on the plane home next to him when he sat bragging about how hed got away with it and how it was like winning the lottery getting home. I dont think for one minute at the time he thought shields would actually get convicted of it, as in this country with the lack of evidence and the way the evidence was gathered, it would have been laughed out of court. Before the case had really hit the national press in a big way, word was out around the city by people in the know that michael shields had nothing to do with the attack, but everyone thought that it would be a matter of time before they realised a mistake was made. Shields was convicted on witness testimony from people who seen him in handcuffs in a police car before id'ing him in a parade. No forensic evidence whatsover was presented in court. The whole case from start to finish was a fuckin sham. Watch the documentaries, read the police expert opinion who reviewed the case, read how the evidence was gathered against shields. Witness statements incriminating him were given more weight than those which put him at the hotel, etc, etc. The REAL culprit was safe in the UK and the bulgarian courts needed a conviction. Lets face it, its something which was common place in our justice system in the 70's (guildford 4, birmingham 6, etc) but in a 2005 in a country which was aspiring for EU membership, its shocking that such an injustice was allowed to happen. Jack straw is a spineless shithouse and the labour party is a disgrace for sweeping the liberty of an innocent kid under the carpet for fear of raising a political predecent for future cases. One big fucking cop out, and I am genuinely disgusted by it. Scousers have had plenty of kicks in the balls over the years and this is another. Barry and Xabi have both been excellent for their respective clubs this season, and in hindsight, I am glad xabi stayed. Rafa would not have even considered selling an inform xabi, but he was disappointing last 2 seasons by his own standards, and for if people say thats a myth, then I think they are fooling themselves. Xabi reacted in the best way possible to almost leaving the club and has been inspired to rediscover his 1st season form which has had a massive affect on our league challenge this season. This season, when xabi plays well, he really makes us tick, and its obvious other teams have highlighted this judging by the amount of other teams players have tried to take him out the game with red card tackles. We surely have to play a very strong side for this one? After 4 back to back draws, we are playing our local rivals away, and surely after beating chelsea, we have to get some momentum going again? Dossena played quite well against everton in the 1st match, so that would be the only change from the starting line up from the chelsea match. Alonso misses this weekends game through suspension anyway, so thats one less player to worry about resting. We can take torres and gerrard off when the liverpool 3rd goes in on 79 mins :thumbup:

Babel was tipped for big things this season after some good cameo performances and around 11 goals for us last season. This time last season, kuyt was being called the biggest pile of dogshit ever, not fit to wear the shirt, etc,etc. Like Kuyt early last season, babel is short on confidence and out of form.
