  1. The problem with the ticket office is they'll fob you off with any old shite to get you out of their face. Remember once ringing up and getting four completely different stories from four different people for one European away all on the same day. I forgot to mention the restricted capacity at PSV which didn't help, coupled with the ease and price of getting there. Anderlecht had a very similar set of circumstances. If it had been Deportivo or Olympiakos or Sofia up first there won't have been the same problems. There's never been a loyalty system in place at the start of the season for Euro aways - always been a lottery for the first game and particularly bad if we have a PSV scenario.
  2. 5times - there's been no change in Euro away ticketing policy despite what some bint in the ticket office tried to fob you off with. The same system is in place now as for the last few years. The problem this season was the first Euro away was a close, very inexpensive destination with absolutely loads of different ways of getting there. Bascombe's railing against the wrong (and too easy a) target. He should be bemoaning modern football and the wages the players get because it's that which is forcing ticket prices up. Perhaps next time he interviews Jamie or Stevie he'll put in a request for them to take a pay cut to allow the ticket prices to be reduced.

don't forget he missed 3 or 4 games with a virus.
  4. Not only did mine have no staples, it had no pages either!
  5. In an article in the 20th March, 2003 edition of the Press Gazette (the "bible" of the UK newspaper industry) the following appeared: "The Sun is still struggling with the legacy of Hillsborough, 14 years after the most disastrous publishing decision in the newspaper’s history, the National Readership Survey’s figures suggest. In North West England, The Sun is a poor second to the Daily Mirror. It has been estimated that the boycott has cost News International £125 million in revenue and half a billion in sales and the newspaper is acutely aware of this: "Ian Clarke, advertising director at The Sun, admitted this week: 'We know it was a mistake .... but every year it [the boycott] softens slightly as a younger audience comes through."
  6. Why would I need to guess when I know? Don't know if your memory is going but I gave you a big plug on here regarding that transfer by digging up an old post of yours on RAWK from way back where you first mentioned Pennant, his love for Liverpool, and your dalliances with Mr Andrew.
  7. Oi Rash - that was your bloody urban myth! ;)
  8. Our two best runs last season : Period: 29 Oct 2005 - 14 Jan 2006 Games played & record: 18 (14W 3D 1L) Changes made to starting 11: 56 Average changes per game: 3.11 Period: 15 Mar 2006 - 13 May 2006 Games played & record: 12 (12W 0D 0L) Changes made to starting 11: 49 Average changes per game: 4.08 over 62 competitive games, Rafa made on average 3.63 changes per game. Since the Sheff Utd game he's averaging 3.18 changes this season in all games.
  9. Wilson's not a Spurs fan - he's an Evertonian from Wigan. This is his profile on the Guardian/Observer site: Paul Wilson Is the Observer’s football correspondent. He has previously worked for the Guardian and the Independent and local newspapers in the north of England, where he still lives, the only Evertonian in a family of Liverpool and Wigan Athletic supporters. No awards, books or television career to speak of, but he once saw a bloke on the tube laughing out loud while reading his column. He lives in hope that in another five years or so he might spot another one. Or even the same one.
  10. To match their time scale we have to be in the new stadium for the start of the 2009/10 season. And the stadium is 61000 - don't know why the Post/Echo keep getting it wrong.
  11. Had the same question on RAWK about 6 months back and that's the list we came up with minus Pennant who hadn't yet joined. Had to remove Warner though as someone checked and he never played a competitive first team game for us so he joined Alou Diarra and Carl Medjani on the reserve list as they all only played friendlies. The "wartime black" mentioned by l19red is Andy Black, a Scottish international who played for Hearts before the war and Man City and Stockport after.
  12. Not generally keen on making forums reg-only as it's almost a "fuck off we're not interested in you, stay away from our place" - though it does depend on how close you're sailing to your allotted bandwidth. On the page width, as someone who is still stuck with a poxy 800x600 the one I found hardest to use was talk lfc because of the necessity to scroll horizontally to read any post, until I spotted you can change it from Fluid to Fixed in My Controls --> Board Settings.
  13. Given that Hutchison was two yards away from the free kick when taken, not only should it have been disallowed but he should have been booked.
  14. He's the BBC's chief rowing commentator at the worlds and olympics and has been for at least ten years.
  15. Rafa would pick both and play them as a partnership, Rush feeding off Toshack's flicks.
  16. That's spot on - as soon as our interest materialised a couple of Dutch lads on RAWK were saying it was common knowledge over there that Trabelsi has knacked knees and that was why very few of the big clubs would go near him.
  17. Rafa wanted to bring him back last summer but Diarra wasn't interested and decided to stay with Lens activating the fee (see it as both £2m and £2.5m) that had been agreed when he was loaned there. To be fair to the lad he had been loaned to three different clubs in three years since joining from Bayern Munich so was undoubtedly a bit hacked off with the club.
  18. You can set Paypal up to do this - it's one of the options we've used on RAWK for about a year and seems to work well. Allows people to choose the freuqency and amount.
  19. I particularly liked my subtle dig about Chelsea and long balls ;)
  20. Got to agree on the Guardian one, it's quality has dropped off markedly this season, not just for us but all clubs. The Independent is meant to be having a far more substantial Premiership Preview but I haven't seen it yet. These were my answers to their journo: Your team's best performance last season was... The 3-1 home win over Everton. We were down to ten men from the 18th minute yet completely dominated the match. And the worst? The 4-1 home defeat by Chelsea. We just failed to turn up and the normally immaculate defence was at sixes and sevens. Your best player last season was... Steven Gerrard. A truly world class player delivering to the utmost of his abilities. And the worst? Fernando Morientes consistently failed to deliver. He's still a classy player and showed some great touches but the pace of the Premier League was too much for him. Which of your young players has impressed you? Momo Sissoko was an unacclaimed arrival. His incredible energy and ability to break up opposition attacks allowed Alonso and Gerrard to shine. If money was no object which player or manager would like to see at your club? We have the manager. Rafael Marquez was the best player in the World Cup and would slot in well alongside Carragher as Hyypia gets older. Okay, but money is an object so who else? We need another striker and Feyenoord's Dirk Kuyt has the requisite work rate and goal record and (hopefully) a small enough price tag. Which of your team's games are you most looking forward to? The European Cup Final in Athens. Failing that the trip to Goodison is always lively. (One or the other) Which ground are you most looking forward to visiting?/Apart from your own, which is your favourite ground to visit and why? Goodison for the atmosphere, St. James' Park for the breathtaking views of the Northumberland countryside. Funniest moment last season (any club)? Newcastle and Sky unveiling yet another player in front of 20,000 delirious fans. It's about the trophies, not the trophy players. Whose was the best individual performance against you last season? Didier Drogba in Chelsea's 4-1 win was unplayable. Every long ball hit to him stuck like glue and he used his strength to bully our defence. Best set of fans, besides your own? West Ham's fans were superb in Cardiff for the FA Cup Final. On a European stage Benfica put on a show in Lisbon. Favourite chant? "Mo mo mo, Mo mo mo mo mo" - the new Sissoko song to the Banana Splits theme tune. What would you consider to be a good season? A trophy, challenging for the league and at least the last 16 of the European Cup. Sum up your manager in three words? Furniture, Possibilities, Mentality. Has your enthusiasm for the new season been enhanced/reduced/unaffected by the World Cup and England's performances in it? Unaffected by the World Cup, though it's been enthused by the signings the club has made this summer. Will you boo Cristiano Ronaldo, and is he the biggest diver (if not then who else)? Wasn't it Rooney who committed the violent assault on the pitch? The biggest diver in the league is probably Joe Cole just ahead of Arjen Robben. At what point will admission prices prevent you from going to matches? They already do to a certain extent. You're seeing an increase in the sharing of season tickets and picking and choosing of away games these days. Does your club need new ownership? No, it's generally very well run. Some investment wouldn't go amiss in the efforts to build the new stadium. Who should run the game: the clubs or the FA? Both to some extent surely? The FA must have primacy but the clubs need to be closely involved on a professional level. Steve McClaren: Yes, or no? Not as manager of Liverpool. He seems a spectacularly uninspired choice for England.
  21. They've now got the local Geordie newspaper quoting them - they're pissing themselves here: Geordie jape
  22. Here's the Barry Van Gina story .... get those shirts printed. Newcastle step up striker hunt By Anal Oliver - July 31 2006 Newcastle United boss Glenn Roeder has finally found the the replacement for retired Geordie hero Alan Shearer. After months of speculation and rumours Newcastle doubled their efforts to bring in a new striker. Earlier this week local papers refuted claims of Dean Ashton coming to the Toon. And rumours went on with names such as Miroslav Klose and Dirk Kuyt being linked to the North-East outfit. We can reveal today that none of these players will come. However after I've talked to Freddy yesterday night I can reveal Newcastle's top target. Belgium hotshot Barry Van Gina tops Roeder's list and as far I know we're are ready to make an offer. More on this as I get it.
