That was the Week that Was (Jun 27-Jul 1 2022)

Monday Jun 27:

Ok Spurs are defo trolling everyone now. Not only do they want to add Richarlison to Kane and Son, the fuckers are also trying to get Anthony Gordon as well! Fuck me, why not try and get Drogba out of retirement too. Or bid for Neymar. They’re trying to assemble an Olympic diving team here, they're going to completely detestable this season.

All joking aside though, that Gordon is fucking shit. He’s an attacking player who never fucking scores. Diving is his biggest skill and if he went to Spurs he’d never get a game because he’s a Championship level player. I don’t know why they would even have any interest in him at all. Mind you, I don’t know why they want the incredibly average Richarlison either. If his passport was Estonian and not Brazilian the cunt would be playing for someone like…. well, Everton.

My point is that Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal wouldn’t be looking twice at him. Although in fairness, I sincerely doubt that there is serious interest in him from Chelsea, or even Arsenal. But his agent is that Joorachian twat so he’ll be briefing the press with all sorts of duff info to drum up interest.

Staying with Everton, some fucking mad comments from Andros Townsend today.

“I love how Jurgen Klopp has found a way to get his own way. He’s been moaning for years. They have been pushing back and finally they have given him his five substitutions.”

I mean, fucking hell. Every major in league in Europe has it. The Champions League has it. The FA Cup has it. The League Cup has it. In fact, every competition worth its salt had it except the Premier League. They finally fall into line with everyone else and somehow this is Klopp “getting his own way”. He didn’t invent the idea, he just wanted the Premier League to do what everyone else was doing because it makes sense.

Honestly, Townsend always came across quite well in the past, but there’s just something about Everton that absolutely fucks with people and turns them into bitter, twisted, vile little fucking warped creatures. Everton are basically “the One Ring”. People go there as Smeagol but within a few months they’re full on raging mad Gollums. It happens all the time. Previously sane and normal people just become massive, frothing at the mouth cunts. Roberto Martinez was the nicest man in the world until he went there. Ancelotti too. The only one who was able to withstand its power was Koeman, who I guess is Frodo Baggins.

Once Everton touches you….

Tuesday Jun 28:

It’s my birthday today. 49. Fucking hell, one more year and I can play on the PGA Seniors Tour. Well, I can’t, because I’m shit, but I’ll meet the age requirement. And if that didn’t make me feel old enough already, my step daughter had twins today so now I’m an actual grandad. It’s mad how fast life starts to go once you get past 35.

Saw a rumour today we’ve bid for Assencio from Real Madrid. He’s one of those players whose name I always see but who I’m not sure actually exists as whenever I see his team play, he’s never involved. We get linked with these types from Real and Barca quite a lot. Remember that Montoya fella at Barca who we were linked with for about five years? This ain’t happening.

Another player we’re being linked with is Barella from Inter. This might have legs as Klopp sung his praises when we played Inter. I think he missed both games and Klopp made some comment about how glad he was that we didn’t have to face him. I don’t know much about him other than I think I picked him out in the Euros as someone who looked really good. We don’t have a good history with Italian players and as a general rule they’re shit in the Premier League. Balotelli is the only one to ever win the title over here I think, and he was shite. That doesn’t put me off though. If Klopp and the staff think Barella is a good fit for us then count me in.

Some nice words today from Klopp on Taki.

“It’s hard to see Taki go, but it’s a great move for him and one he thoroughly deserves. An amazing professional; super, talented player. As a person, he is full of warmth and makes everyone feel positive. A manager’s dream, to be honest. “I’m sure there will be those who think it didn’t quite work out. Those who think this are wrong. I don’t accept that.

“His contribution far outweighs the opportunities we were able to give, in terms of starting matches. He made us better each and every day he was with us – not just in the games he played in but every single session in training. Perfect attitude, winner’s mentality. His performances and his goals are the reason we have had to redecorate the Champions Wall so often. His achievements here will stand the test of time.”

*wipes tear*

In other news, I saw this from Jonjoe Kenny today.

“Playing with Everton against Liverpool was particularly emotional. Ever since I was a little boy, I’ve kind of hated Liverpool. It was always my dream to play against them, and luckily I did.”

Like most Blues, he clearly hated Liverpool more than he loved Everton, as he turned down a new contract from his “boyhood” club to go and play in Germany.

Wednesday Jun 29:

Some fucking mad comments from Didi Hamann today. Not that anyone should be surprised as he’s a massive knobhead.

It's going to be a tough season psychologically for Liverpool after what happened last season. They were 15 minutes from winning the league and used up all their luck on the way to the Champions League final. The two biggest trophies eluded them and I think psychologically it'll be very hard for Jurgen Klopp what they did last season can't be better.”

Used up all our luck on the way? We won every fucking group game and come through each knock out tie fairly comfortably. What’s he talking about? We had no luck in the CL and especially in the final. As for the psychological damage, this is a manager and squad who have responded to every setback by going one better the next season. We lost to Madrid and the next year we went all the way. We missed out to City by a point, the next season we went out and blew everybody away.

As if Klopp and the players are moping around all depressed and defeated. They’ll be absolutely climbing the walls ready to get started again. The amount of shite that comes out of Didi’s mouth is incredible. Is there a worse ex Red pundit out there? I know Danny Murphy gets a lot of shit but this is just different levels. Maybe Dean Saunders can give him a run for his money, but nobody else.

Meanwhile, Stevie wants Joe Gomez. Well why wouldn’t he? He needs to upgrade on that Mings loser and Joe is fucking boss. Everything I’ve heard suggests Gomez wants to stay and sign a new deal, which would be great for us. Not sure it would be that great for him as it’a difficult seeing him forcing his way into the starting eleven currently. Things can change quickly though and Joe probably believes he’s every bit as good as Matip and Konate so if that’s the case, he should back himself and sign a new deal with us because the only way is down if he leaves. It makes me sad seeing Coutinho playing for Villa, I don’t want to see Gomez suffer the same fate.

Also today, Gini posts a holiday photo showing him and Mo having dinner together. I’d have loved to have been a fly on the wall listening to that conversation.

Meanwhile, it’s Bellingham’s birthday today and Hendo sent him his best wishes. The other day Hendo put something on his insta about the video he did with Nike and Bellingham replied to it by saying “legend”. It’s happening people.

Thursday Jun 30:

Richarlison will move to Spurs for the same fee Everton bought him from Watford for three years ago. I’ve said my piece on this when it was first mooted, but one thing I’d like to add to it is that the press reported a week ago that Everton needed to sell by the 30th of this month to make some FFP deadline. The fact it’s gone through today shows that was correct, but is this one sale enough to offset all those massive losses they’ve had? The book should be thrown at these fuckers and I hope Burnley sue the arse off the cheating cunts.

As for Spurs, this is a complete waste of money. He doesn’t even get in their starting eleven when everyone is available because he’s not even in the same class as Kane or Son, and that lad they brought in on an 18 month loan is boss. Enjoy the bench at Tottenham, “Richy la”. Fucking cunt.

Weirdly, they’re getting Tarkowski on a free. The reason I say weirdly is because I find it strange that this is the best he can do. It wasn’t that long ago he was valued at £40m, yet now he’s available on a free the best he can do is fucking Everton? Leaving a team that was relegated to join one that avoided the same fate by the skin of its teeth. He’s jumped out of the frying pan into a slow cooker. He’s still going to end up burnt, it’s just going to take a bit longer to get there. Credit to the Blues though, they’re learning from their mistakes. The last yard dog centre back they signed from Burnley cost them £30m.

Free transfers are going to appeal to them because of their need to comply with FFP but if they’re going to be overpaying these freebies then they’re still going to be fucked in the long run anyway. Tarkowski couldn’t stop Burnley getting relegated so he’s not going to be any kind of game changer for Everton, especially when the man who did save them is being sold to Spurs. Richarlison’s goals and Pickford’s saves are the only reason they stayed up. That and the absolute fucking spinelessness of United, Chelsea and Arsenal who all lost at Goodison. That’s right, I haven’t forgotten that and never will. I won’t forgive either, at least not until the end of this coming season when the Blue turd is finally flushed for good.

Friday July 1:

Holy shit!! That escalated quickly. I guess we should thank Gini for this as whatever he said last night did the trick. This was mad though. The way it played out was proper drama. One minute there’s a full on meltdown as the agent and the club exchanged emojis on twitter and the next it’s euphoria with the “Salah stays” video. They got me hook, line and sinker.

When the agent put out that emoji tweet I was ready to sell Mo there and then. And I don’t think that’s unfair either considering the previous history here. The replies to that tweet really don’t make for comfortable reading now, after the fact, but they were fair at the time as we didn’t know we were being worked. Even Carra let rip at him, and again, everything he said was justified at the time he tweeted it. Then they dropped the hammer on us!

Not everyone is happy about the way it was announced and the trolling our own fans aspect of it, but I think everyone is delighted that the deal is done. I know I am. I loved the way they did it too, I thought it was funny and a really clever play on the whole situation. The agent must have known he was going to get all kinds of shit but clearly doesn’t care. Carra followed up his initial tweet with a jokey one making out he was in on the ruse, which was just about the only way to salvage the situation really.

I was resigned to Mo leaving and I was fine about it. I’d made my peace with it. But now he’s staying I’m made up for so many reasons. First and foremost I’m glad I’ll get to watch him for three more years at his peak. I still say Suarez is the best player I’ve seen for us but by the end of this contract I may feel differently. And even if I don’t, there’s a good chance Mo might be the ‘greatest’ I’ve seen (currently it’s Stevie).

I’m probably guilty of under-rating Mo to some extent. He’s a great player, he makes my all time LFC XI but when I hear mates saying he’s the best they’ve seen I immediately recoil and think “nah no way”. Yet his numbers suggest he is, so it’s the eye test that must be making me think otherwise. If I ask myself why do I think Suarez is better my answer is because I feel as though Suarez was touched by genius where Mo is just a brilliant footballer.

The thing is though, we’re about to record a pod on the three best goals scored at Anfield and while I was trying to come up with my list I realised that I could quite easily pick three Salah goals and not lose a minute’s sleep over the decision. That said, I could do the same for Suarez. I guess my point here is that I still think Suarez is the best but Mo has three more years now to change my mind, and he probably will do if he reproduces the form he did from August-January.

Other reasons this is great news is that we don’t have to deal with the sight of him playing for someone else, especially another Premier League club as his agent had threatened. I may have been at peace with the idea of him going, but the though of him lining up against us made me queasy. We no longer have to worry about that. Additionally, we don’t have to worry about replacing him either. Any plans that were being made in the background to unearth his successor can now be shelved, which is great because it means more funds for other positions. Not having to sign a replacement for a Bosman departing Mo frees up a whole load of extra cash for a Bellingham type signing. It might even be an idea to go balls out for that now rather than waiting. We’ll have broken even on transfers when we sell the fringe players who are expected to leave, so maybe we still make one big push for a midfielder?

Another reason this is great is because it is yet another brick to throw at Gary Neville. He’s been on an absolute roll the past couple of years when it comes to statements that have come back to bite him in the arse. He’s been saying for three years that Salah because “Man United will win the league before Liverpool do” and everyone is letting him know it today. He’s having a bad time lately, virtually everything he says is making him look a tit and I fucking love it. Not as much as Carra, who is always first in line to drag up any shite Neville has spouted. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel at this point. Other than Michael Owen, I’m not sure if there’s a more ridiculed footballer on twitter these days than Neville. No credibility at all.

Another reason this is great is because of the timing of it. Richarlison was unveiled as a Spurs player today and then the Blues get the double whammy of Salah staying. It’s just too funny.

I think Sachin Nakrani at the Guardian summed it up perfectly with this….

….and that was the week that was
