Sakho's emotional return to PSG

Mamadou Sakho made an emotional return to former club Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday night to say a proper farewell to the fans he left behind when making his £16m move to Anfield on transfer deadline day.

The French defender, who played the full ninety minutes of the Reds' loss to Southampton on Saturday, took to the Parc Des Princes pitch with his young daughter and a microphone to address the supporters before kick off as PSG took on Moncaco in a battle of the big spenders. A teary eyed Sakho was cheered by the home fans after declaring: “I'm very proud to be here tonight. I remember when I was young, I was up there, there in the stands and watched PSG play. My story with PSG isn't over yet.”

Sakho joined PSG as a 12 year old and spent 11 years with his hometown team but left for Anfield after being frozen out by coach Laurent Blanc, who preferred the all Brazilian pairing of Alex and Thiago Silva.

Seen a few people having a pop at Sakho. I don't get it, I thought he played well in the 2nd half against Swansea, did absolutely nothing wrong at all against Southampton and after a bad opening couple of minutes tonight played very well.

I've been impressed with him, I've seen absolutely nothing so far to make me think he's not going to be a very good player for us.

Didn't see the Swansea game (only brief highlights) and haven't seen any of the Southampton game so I can't comment on how well he's done so far.

I watched tonight's game and I thought he played very well. Obviously he is quick and powerful, and I also noticed that he does like to play the ball out from the back pretty much all the time. The only occasion I can think of where he made an error was early on when he stepped out of the back line to close somebody down, realised he was out of position, and made a last-ditch block to concede a corner. He did something similar in the lead up to Michu's goal for Swansea last week, so his timing and anticipation perhaps need refining.

For the above reasons, I can't understand why some on here have singled him out for criticism on tonight's display, because he certainly looks a talent with attributes that the team has lacked in the defensive line in recent seasons. With more experience, he has a great opportunity to refine his game and become a real asset.

It's not that he's necessarily a bad player, he's just the wrong player to buy. We already had Agger, Skrtel and Toure. We've cut corners in the areas we needed to improve the most, instead of going all out and buying top players in those areas, we've chose 2nd and 3rd choice options.

We needed a new left back, defensive midfielder, a proper left winger allowing Coutinho to move central. We ended up with two loans signings and no defensive midfielder......we now have 5 centre backs.

We should of bought Guilherme Siqueira, Konoplianka and Capoue / Wanayama.
