Mamadou Sakho made an emotional return to former club Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday night to say a proper farewell to the fans he left behind when making his £16m move to Anfield on transfer deadline day.
The French defender, who played the full ninety minutes of the Reds' loss to Southampton on Saturday, took to the Parc Des Princes pitch with his young daughter and a microphone to address the supporters before kick off as PSG took on Moncaco in a battle of the big spenders. A teary eyed Sakho was cheered by the home fans after declaring: “I'm very proud to be here tonight. I remember when I was young, I was up there, there in the stands and watched PSG play. My story with PSG isn't over yet.”
Sakho joined PSG as a 12 year old and spent 11 years with his hometown team but left for Anfield after being frozen out by coach Laurent Blanc, who preferred the all Brazilian pairing of Alex and Thiago Silva.
