That was the week that was (Jun 9-15 2018)

Saturday Jun 9…

This Fekir thing is depressing. There are all sorts of conflicting stories coming out, mostly because the majority of those on Twitter (especially the French) pretending to know what’s going on haven’t got a fucking clue. I tend to disregard most of what I read unless it’s coming from the LFC beat reporters, and the word from them is we pulled out because of the medical. Obviously Liverpool can’t comment on that because medical results are confidential, but their silence speaks volumes.

I’m gutted though, I was convinced he was going to be a proper superstar for us. Those youtube clips are a fucking curse, remind me never to watch them again until a deal is over the line. Hopefully this isn’t dead in the water and it’s just a case of us needing more time to examine the medical aspect of it. The World Cup put a deadline on it and if we had any doubts then we couldn’t be rushed into anything, but maybe the issue won’t turn out to be that serious and we’ll still get him.

Meanwhile, Can and Flanagan head a long list of players who have now left the club. The other day there was another report of Can being on the brink of announcing a deal with Juve, yet once again it didn’t happen. What’s the delay here, it’s weird? He’s a free agent now so if, IF, he’s had this deal in place for months (as the Italian press have been claiming) how come he isn’t in Turin today leaning on something and posing with a Juve shirt? It’s all a bit strange. What the fuck is he playing at?

Sunday Jun 10…

Mo responds to the comments from Ramos last week. As you’d expect, he was very dignified about it all and wouldn’t get involved in any controversy, but he did refute the claim by Ramos that he told him everything was fine. So we can add ‘liar’ to the Madrid man’s rap sheet too.

Meanwhile, with the Fekir thing perhaps not dead in the water but certainly floundering and in need of a life belt, the talk is now turning to alternatives. The reliable sources have mentioned Lanzini, who thankfully did his ACL last week so is now off the menu. I say thankfully, and I feel bad about that as I wish him no harm, but signing him isn’t something I’d be on board with. He’s the very epitome of a Poundland Coutinho. I mean, he’s basically the same player just not as good. We can’t be doing that. You don’t get better by selling a player and buying a worse version of him.

Monday Jun 11…

Saw this tweet from Coutinho today that had a lot of Reds spitting feathers.

People do know he didn’t tweet that himself, right? I reckon most players now have someone who does all that stuff for them. They use Instagram, they seem to love that, but Twitter is mostly done by PR firms they hire to run their account, and when it’s an advert like that then it’s defo not the player. That didn’t stop me replying to it with a Larry David fainting gif, naturally. Not going to let an opportunity like that go to waste.

Fuck all else happening today, other than Mo had his picture taken with a Chechnyan warlord or something and people were kicking off over it. As if Mo had any idea who the this cat was. He must pose for a hundred photos a week. Besides, spending five minutes with Mo is enough to reform anyone so I'm all in favour. That said, if I see him posing with Trump I might just throw myself off the nearest bridge.

Tell what is worrying though, every time Mo is taking a selfie and anyone goes near his shoulder, he gets all nervous about it and security steam in to get people away from him. It must still be hurting him, so how the fuck is he going to play against Uruguay? Those lads at the back take no prisoners.

Tuesday Jun 12…

Reports that Klopp has given up on Alisson and is looking for an alternative plan. Not sure I’m buying it, although he should defo be looking at alternatives anyway in case we can’t get him out of Roma. Obviously there has to be a price we won’t go to, but it all depends on how good Klopp thinks he is. I mean, if he’s a top three keeper in the world then how much is too much? We paid £75m for Van Dijk and a keeper is just as important.

I don’t know if Alisson is that good, I only saw him when he played against us and he was a bit ‘meh’. Didn’t do much wrong but he never looked like someone you’d put in the same bracket as De Gea and Oblak, and let’s face it, that’s the level we are aspiring too. He’s first choice for Brazil so people are assuming that means he’s better than the City lad, but Gabriel Jesus is ahead of Bobby and who are you taking out of those two?

So yeah, if he’s one of the best in the world then pay the money, if he’s not then go and get someone else, because the “him or no-one” approach Klopp took with Van Dijk won’t work this time. We can’t have the Mig or Karius as number one when we kick off in August.

Wednesday Jun 13…

The new away kit is out and it’s a fucking monstrosity. Purple? Who the fuck came up with that? We’ve had some lovely kits recently but this is even worse than the orange one from last year, which was terrible. That gets overlooked because we were great when we played in it, but the kit was not a Liverpool kit and neither is this fucker.

Keep the away kit white and the third kit yellow and stop fucking about. Actually I don’t mind a nice black kit now and then too, so that can be in the rotation as well, but stop letting the work experience kid design the second and third kits and sack all these stupid colours off.

Meanwhile, ‘Big Sam’ picks his England 11 for the World Cup opener. A back five and two holding midfield players. That’s as far as I got, I didn’t stick around for the inevitable bit where he said “and I’d get the two Kev’s out of retirement, Nolan and Davies, to get me the one goal a game we’d need”.

In other World Cup news, Spain sacked their coach the day before the tournament starts. With Holland not being there and France seemingly having gotten their act together, I was worried there might be a lack of drama and toys being thrown out of prams at this tournament. Good to see that chaos can still reign, although I wouldn’t have had Spain down as the ones who’d be providing it.

In fairness I reckon they’ve done the right thing and I admire them for it. Real Madrid not only tapped up their coach, they then gave him the manager’s job and announced it two days before the World Cup was due to start, without ever even bothering to ask for permission. Cheeky arrogant bastards.

Apparently the Madrid players in the squad all knew about it too, which is hardly surprising. Ramos pleaded with the Spanish FA to let him stay on but they ignored him and told the coach to pack his shit and fuck off. Good for them. Madrid showed them no respect and the coach himself didn’t even bother to tell his employers that he was taking another job.

Getting rid of a coach at this late stage is a brave thing to do so I applaud them. Now I hope they report Madrid to UEFA and the bastards get a transfer ban (that they can blatantly ignore and continue signing players as normal because no-one ever stands up to them or Barca).

Thursday Jun 14…

The fixtures are out and we’ve got an easy looking start and an easy looking run in. Can’t ask for much more than that. We also get to ruin Spurs’ White Hart Lane homecoming too, so that will be nice.

The Spanish press claim Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Alisson. The Madrid president says otherwise: “€75m? For that price let Liverpool have him”. Normally I wouldn’t believe a word from either of them but is Florentino Perez likely to spend that much on a keeper? I can’t see it. I mean, the keeper isn’t the reason they didn’t win La Liga and they’ve won three CL in a row with the fella they have now.

If they’re gonna spend big on a keeper, let them go and get De Gea and help us all out. Sooner that teen wolf looking twat fucks off the sooner the Mancs will be back scrapping it out with Arsenal for the Europa League scraps.

Speaking of the Mancs, their slim hopes of bringing Pogba’s best pal to Old Trafford were dashed once and for all tonight (which is a shame as I could have made a ‘Lethal Weapons’ gag), but it was Barcelona who were left with the most egg on their faces when Griezmann released a video called ‘the Decision’ in which he eventually announced he was staying at Atletico. What a twat.

Lebron James did this and went from being the NBA’s most popular player to it’s biggest villain. It took him a few years before people started liking him again, as it was such a self indulgent, egotistical act. This is worse, because at least Lebron is a big deal, the best player in his sport. This little upstart prick? He wouldn’t even get in our front three.

This kind of behaviour is hardly surprising though. Some modern footballers are so indulged and so out of touch, and let’s not forget that this turd is best mates with Pogba, who you just know has egged him on with this.

When it’s all said and done though, I think the biggest takeaway from all this is “FUCK YOU BARCA!”.

Friday Jun 15…

Mo didn’t play today. Probably a good thing as his shoulder mustn’t be right, but it was still disappointing wasn’t it? That game looked like it was there for Egypt to win in the last 15 minutes of they could have brought him on, but they didn’t and they were left hanging on as Uruguay piled on the pressure late and eventually won it in the last minute. The cameras were on Mo almost as much as the game though, and any time he was on the big screen there was a massive cheer. He’s a proper superstar now isn’t he? Probably third behind Messi and Ronaldo in terms of how iconic he’s become.

Of course, with Griezmann having rejected Barca all the lazy clickbait hacks are now running with them wanting Mo instead. They’d have to sell Camp Not to raise the money for that deal. Are people forgetting that WE have the Neymar money now? We might have to worry about losing Salah at some point in the future, but right now nobody could afford him.

Meanwhile, 2016 called. It wants it’s “Reds in for Mario Gotze” headline back. Seriously, why are we being linked with this washed up bum? He had his chance and he thought he was too good for us. He’s done absolutely fuck all since while we’ve qualified for the Champions League in both seasons since he snubbed us and we reached the final this year.

Remember Klopp saying he wanted players to help push the train rather than jump on it when it was moving? This fat little fucker wants us to stop the train because his waddling little arse can't catch up to it. Sorry Mario, not interested.

Finally, Mo didn’t play for Egypt and Ramos was asked about it in a press conference ahead of Spain’s clash with Portugal. ““I sleep well at night, I have an easy conscience,” he grinned. “Some people tried to use certain arguments to become more popular but I am who I am – and I rest easy. If anyone has any doubts about me, they can check my CV”.

I’ve checked. More red cards than trophies. You "are who you are" indeed.

Until next time then…

Good round up, though it lacks an anecdote about which players your mum/dad have formed an irrational dislike of, which I always found illuminating. I want to hear their opinion of Boateng's hair in particular.

Hopeful Neymar’s exposure on this stage will rocket him to real mainstream shithead status.

Noticed a mate of mine who knows almost nothing about football couldn’t stop saying what a cunt he is last night, for example. It’s one great way a World Cup can unite us all, by increasing our shared understanding of the type of sporting individual we prefer to hate on while eating snack foods.

“Andrew Ridgeley-haired cunt” also got a laugh from everyone including several females who weren’t even watching the television with us.
