  1. You and BeefStroganoff are the only ones who know better obviously. No one else has said they want signings.
  2. The thing about it, though, is that this is a Raiola signing. It's got nothing to do with Everton and how "attractive" they are. They just happen to have a partnership with a super agent now and they play in the Premier League.
  3. If there's no buy back or first refusal for Juve, he's their best signing ever.
  4. Sources: Talks advancing between 3 Stacks and a Mexican cutie for the transfer of his penis into her vagina. Move could be completed tonight subject to a medical which could also determine whether Stacks will hit it raw or not.
  5. He's being more of a cunt about it.
  6. Maybe he's getting more blowies from his wife after winning a huge trophy and he's just in a good mood.
  7. Trophee des Champions (the French Community Shield) 2019 A Bit of a Shit Show Today was the opening salvo of the competitive French football season (using competitive loosely, it's a glorified friendly played in China for marketing reasons). The match was played in the sweltering Shenzhen heat on an absolute disgrace of a pitch. Basically, everything dumb that you associate with modern preseason football except that this is actually supposed to be a competitive match between the Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France winners and there is a trophy on the line. PSG faced Rennes, a rematch of the 2019 Coupe de France final where Rennes emerged unlikely winners in a match that will be remembered as the moment the great Hatem Ben Arfa dipped his ballsack right in PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi's mouth after he led his team to glorious victory (also the small matter of Rennes winning their first trophy since 1971). On to the match report. Without Neymar but with most of their other top players available, PSG lined up in a 4-3-3 with Mbappe taking the Brazilian's usual spot on the left. Rennes on the other hand, had most of their squad gutted due to AFCON missing out on usual starters such as; Mbaye Niang, Ramy Bensebaini, Ismaila Sarr and Hamari Traore, therefore Julien Stephan opted for a 5 at the back system with new signing Flavien Tait up top and 16 year old Eduardo Camavinga in midfield. Basically, PSG had a massive advantage from the start. Despite this, Rennes took the early advantage. With PSG players slipping all over the place on the crap pitch, and seeing their short passes bounce and veer of their intended targets, the Parisian side were, mildly put, fucking shit in the opening half hour. New signing Abdou Diallo and his partner, the perpetual lost-looking Thilo Kehrer were done by a brilliant cross from Benjamin Bourigeaud which Adrien Hunou diverted home. The move looked slightly offside, but I don't think it's a stretch to say that PSG willl still struggle this season to defend against quality opposition. Following this goal, the game took the predictable pattern many thought it would take; PSG holding possession, pushing back a young and undermanned Rennes side. They were finally broken down in the 57th minute. A brilliant over-the-top ball from Marquinhos was brought down by new signing Pablo Sarabia, who then squared to an unmarked Killian Mbappe. From that point it wasn't really a contest anymore. PSG poured on the pressure and when Angel Di Maria replaced new signing Ander Herrera in midfield, his wand of a left foot made the telling difference, curling in a free kick. With PSG in the lead, Rennes tried to force proceedings a bit more and created a few half chances, before creating a clear cut opportunity to tie the game in stoppage time when a cut back found its way to the 16 year old Camavinga who could only blaze over. Final Score: PSG 2, Rennes 1. Conclusion: All in all, a predictable result for a fixture that I feel was a bit of a joke. PSG were distinctly average against a team which didn't have the option of fielding its team at even 50% of its normal capacity. PSG didn't need to be good and they weren't either, but as it often is in France, their average level was enough to win. Also, why is the French Community Shield in China? Just no need. That was shite. Also, there are videos of the trophy celebration where Neymar looks like someone who is currently dealing with an alleged rape charge (oh wait...). He doesn't look happy. During the team picture, there's also footage of him being physically shoved out by Mbappe and Verratti so that he can't be part of it. Yikes. As usual, PSG are an absolute clown show. Thanks for reading!!!
  8. As a result of the overwhelming interest this forum has as it pertains to French football and also my past works (my award winning article "15 Young Studs to Watch in 2019"), I thought it was only right to create a thread where the brilliant forumites of TLW could read high quality content posted by yours truly on the elite footballing competition that is Ligue 1. In this thread, I will post weekly recaps of the happenings in Ligue 1 providing my wonderful readers a general snapshot of what is going on week to week in the French footballing universe. And just to clarify, I want to say first and foremost that this feature will not be in direct competition to TLW's very own and tremendously successful "That was the week that was" series. Look at it as a supplement to this already brilliant piece of content provided by this web site. Secondly, I may also review certain big Ligue 1 clashes on their own and will follow the journey of French clubs who will dispute European competitions this season. Furthermore, I will provide a comprehensive preview of this 2019-2020 season going through every single club in detail. This will be posted at the end of the summer transfer window in order to account for the very last possible player movement. Lets go, baby!!! First article will be posted today!
  9. You interested? Given the replies to my original post I think it's: Myself Bjornebye aRdja Dimreaper Sugar Ape as of now. Anybody else wanna do this?
  10. People are saying the source reporting this gets information from the club, and they're saying an English club was offered Coutinho on loan. And his agent said not too long ago he'd preferably only play for us in England, so I don't know... could be us. Probably not, but you never know.
  11. In the replies he says they're the best because both have made World Cup quarterfinals. Couldn't make it up.
  12. @Nelly-Torres called him before you did. You just rode his coattails. I'm not giving you credit for that.
  13. Limit of 6 French players then. No restrictions on any other countries. There aren't that many top Belgians anyway, but there would need to be a restriction on France.
  14. It's like the Holgate thing where people dug up a tweet where he used a homophobic slur. Yeah they're both young, but they've grown up in an era where they know stuff like that can come out. It's not a huge deal but they should know better. That said, I hope he keeps his hair like it currently is his whole career, that he adds some full sleeve tats and that he buys a matte black Bugatti with diamonds encrusted in the rims just to piss people off that much more.
  15. Same disclaimer as in the other thread. I essentially know fuck all about most players but I'll vote based on who I perceive has most weaknesses. Elite: Solid team overall. No one really sticks out like a sore thumb but I think this is the team with the fewest top, top players. Also, Suarez on the left is a bit meh. aRdja: Half the midfield is suspect. One player from the 60's and a one-dimensional, slightly above average holding player. Lee: I enjoyed the draft strategy of going "other" early. I tried to do the same thing, but Gento and Di Stefano again, is hard for me to vote for. Sugar Ape: Super solid team. Can't see a weak point, well balanced. Maybe the midfield 3 lack a bit of creativity but there's Zidane ahead of them anyway and they're all really good. Alex: Couple average players. Don't know the keeper and Capdevila is pretty meh but the rest of the team is great. Sugar Ape for me has the most solid team. Then it's between Elite and Alex. Went with Alex, just because his attack is better.
  16. Can't go too in depth because I haven't seen 3/4's of the players but here goes. I'll just say what I perceive to be the teams' weak points and the two which have the fewest, I'll go with. Tony: Midfield seems weak and would get countered. Kroos, as good as he is, is slow and putting a #10 with no workrate or physicality next to him doesn't seem the best choice John: Too many old players. You've picked the easy choices, I feel. Can't vote for a guy who played in the 40's and another who played in the 50's and mid 60's. Just not possible, no one's seen them play. Dim: One player who is out of place in your attack. I don't know why you didn't go with Pires on the left with Cristiano from his Manchester United days on the right. Also, the defense are one dimensional. Not much technique in that back four, from my point of view. Stig: Central defense and keeper are below standard. Dynamite: Defense isn't great. Iraola not good enough. I'll go with Tony and Dim as they have the fewest weak players. Just one for both, really.
  17. You sign top players to win stuff. They'll have bought him at 28 for 50m and they'll eventually lose him for far less or nothing having in all probability won fuck all. You said it was madness other teams let Arsenal have him. If Arsenal were world beaters that would be the case, except they're not, far from it.
  18. No it wasn't. He's 30 and they've won nothing of consequence. Unless they win the league, it will have been a waste of time and money when it's all said and done.
  19. Putting his level aside, Lovren is ageing, injury prone and we have 3 other good CB's. If he wants to go and the price is decent, you show him the door. But I doubt that Roma offer is real.
  20. It's not that big of a deal but you've pretty much just made one change there which is Kempes behind Falcao. Silva is on the left, Stoichkov on the right and Schuster and Touré are still in a midfield 2. I doubt that one small change suddenly makes my team one of the best.
  21. Can we stop talking about how Tony is potentially misusing one player and talk about the fact that people think my whole team is terribly set up? Please and thank you.
  22. Will just explain my formation because it seems people think it's just random. -Kempes is playing off a true striker who is tremendous in the air and he can play off him as a result. I was told he wasn't a lone striker, so I didn't make him a lone striker. -City played 4-2-2-2 in 13-14 when they had one of the best attacking teams in Premier League history. Silva on the left and Touré in a box to box midfield two were both world class. Probably the best they've ever been. -From what I've read, Stoichkov wasn't really a striker. He was a creative player who could score goals so putting him on the right of attacking midfield where he plays behind two forwards and can cut in and shoot makes sense -Schuster scored loads of goals and at the same time it was said he could play deeper even as a libero. So a box to box role in a midfield 2 makes sense. -Width is an issue with the formation but I have one of the best fullbacks of all time in Cafu to provide some I don't see a better formation for the players I have. They're all playing in basically ideal roles.
  23. Sources: Sané transfer to Bayern is getting closer. The transfer fee would be around 100m Euros and the German speedster would sign a 4 or 5 year deal with the Bavarian giants.
  24. All players from official French speaking countries would be available so: Belgium Benin Burkina Burundi Cameroon Canada Central African Republic Chad Comoros Congo Congo, Democratic Republic of Cote d'Ivoire Djibouti France Gabon Guinea Haiti Luxembourg Madagascar Mali Monaco Niger Rwanda Senegal Seychelles Switzerland Togo Vanuatu Vietnam
