  1. A defensive midfielders job is not to set the world alight. Their job is to knit the midfield together and create a balance between defence and attack. Javier Mascherano never really set the world alight at Liverpool. He as a defensive midfielder had a job, it was to destroy. From what I've seen over the years that's exactly what Alou Diarra did.
  2. Chelsea did so when the bought Shevchenko. Who is to blame for making one of the worlds best finishers less prolific than Danny Wellbeck? Jerzy Dudek. Shevchenko never recovered from Jerzy messing with his head in Istanbul. Jerzy destroyed him.
  3. The sell on clause only comes into play if the club makes a profit. Liverpool making a loss will ensure that is null and void. The best example is Tom Ince. Liverpool sold Tom Ince for £300,000. The only way the sell on fee cannot be activated is if Ince is sold for less than £300,000. Liverpool are entitled to 35% of everything over £300,000.
  4. I still expect Kentight to refuse to pay any club compensation. That means the new Everton manager will be a freebie. So you've got Sparkie, Tony Pulis and Ratface Jnr as the front runners.
  5. Andy Carroll is effectively an attacking version of Phil Jones. Both turn like a ferry and run like a cow. Both also have the mobility of a wheelie bin.
  6. Andy Carroll was the worst. Even though we mugged Chelsea out of £50 million, Torres helped them win 3 trophies. Two of which are European. Carroll spent most of his time with us injured. Andy Carroll had the potential to be Didier Drogba, but ended up being like Emile Heskey without the pace.
  7. Re: Kevin Strootman. Yes please. Similar to the Big Greek lad that plays for Schalke, this boy is a brick. He's inhumanly strong. Not only that, he's mobile too and is in the same mould as the vastly under-rated Moussa Dembele. As for Phillipe Coutinho, for someone that is slight, he's a little bulldozer. His interception stats are out of this world. I can't believe that Inter let him go so cheaply. Then again mistakes can be made. Do any of you remember a player Gerard Houllier signed called Alou Diarra from Bayern Munich on a free? Rafa let him go for £2 million and he ended up being the captain of France. He was one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe. He's past it now. But he's was awesome in his prime.
  8. Mark Hughes would be my choice. He's as much use as condom in a convent with money, he'll do even worse with the pittance that Kentight will give him.
  9. There is too sides to this arguement. Yes Liverpool have left it late to go into the commercial side. However the money is more plentiful now than it was 20 years ago when Manchester United decided to market aggressively. It was actually Hicks and Gillett due to their overall greed and stupidity that brought Liverpool kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Moores and Parry were in the dark ages. In 2005 when we could easily have made a commercial killing having been crowned kings of Europe. Moores had the club shop shut. Liverpool in market speak are a ''cash cow that needs to be milked''. The commercial potential is enormous. Look at the deals we're tying up whilst not being in the champions league? What sort of deals can we tie up when we're back in it? There is two crucial issues that need to be solved. Getting back in the CL is one and the other is the stadium project. Should we do that, and with Man City and Chelsea( non global clubs) being hamstrung by the FFP, and Man United hampered by leveraged debt. We could blow the lot out of the water. Only Manchester United are our equal as a brand. However the positives are, we can make a killing without being hampered by the debt Manchester United are. FSG must spend the cash to get us to a level where we're powerful and equipped to sweep all before us. Then the money will roll in.
  10. Re: Plan B. I hope you're not going to suggest our ''Plan B'' should be resorting to Sam Allardyce hoof ball. There is lots of misconceptions of what a ''Plan B'' actually is. What I actually think you mean is that there has to be a variation in the playing style. Guess what? Brendan is already using one. It's called counter attacking. In order to do you, you need the players. Brendan only signed them in January. In other to couter attack successfully you need two things. A player that plays on the shoulder of the last defender and occupies centre-backs. We've got that now in Daniel Sturridge. The other thing we needed was someone that could provide razor sharp passing. We've got that in Philippe Coutinho. Against Newcastle, we had the minority of posession, but we scored 6 goals. There may be occasions where we may need to forget about posession and use what posession we've got to hit and hit hard. The key is to do so consistently. Our biggest problem was dealing with teams that put up blanket defences and hit hard on the break. How do you combat that? You line up exactly the same way. When you gain posession, you hit harder than the opposition. You pass the ball better than the opposition. It's all about awareness. Being aware to play killer passes and having the conviction to finish. In other words to do what Philippe Coutinho did against Fulham. However another key must be to ensure the balance between defence and attack is right. When not in posession, the defence must tighten up quickly and win the ball back in order to counter. The Liverpool way is based on Patience, passing and posession...........not hoof-ball.
  11. Would you take Lukaku from Chelsea? Like Daniel Sturridge,it's unlikely he's going to get games even if Maureen becomes manager. He's more likely to bring a centre-back on and put him up-front, like what he used to do with Robert Hoof.
  12. Firstly Re: Andy Carroll. It was a £3 million loan fee. I read this recently that it's £15 million plus another £2 million based on success. That will obviously be goals and appearances as West Ham haven't won a trophy since 1980. However this is the good news. If Liverpool sell Andy Carroll now, Newcastle lose out on £14 million. It's all based on Amortisation. It's £7 million every january over the 5 years of Carrolls contract. The next £7 million due was in January 2014 taking it up to £28 million. Andy Carroll being sold means, Newcastle don't get it. That effectively means Liverpool will have lost £1 million on Andy Carroll. As for other transfers. Brendan Rodgers apparently wants Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea. I read somewhere that Chelsea owe Liverpool £15 million from the Torres deal which is due this summer. Maybe just maybe Liverpool will say we're even if Chelsea allow us to take Lukaku in exchange?
  13. The recent rumblings and this has come from the Liverpool Echo is that Liverpools targets are Kolo Toure, Diego Capel, Kyriagkos Papadopoulos and Tiago Llori. That's just the beginning.
  14. Pepe Reina has recently said that he cannot do anything about the rumours, but he wishes to stay with Liverpool for the next three years. Maybe then he will return to his native Spain. This seems more logical.
  15. Re:Young Souness. I agree 100%. We've got plenty of style and ''nice players''. Take out Luis Suarez and the retiring Jamie Carragher out of the squad. Who have we got who has a ''nasty streak''? Who have we got that will attempt to pick fights with the opposition? Jonjo Shelvey is a little fire-cracker. But he's too hot-headed. If looks could kill, Martin Skrtel would kill ya. However he's way too nice. Andy Carroll had the potential to be a nasty bastard. The problem is, he's more Emile Heskey than Didier Drogba. There is another problem, he like Phil Jones, turns like a ferry and runs like a cow. We need added steel. We need more rough-house players with the same granite like characters like Jamie Carragher. Seb Coates is just a big softie. He needs to go out on loan and get kicked about for a season. I reckon if he's roughed up, he'll come back a real wrecking machine. He can be as nasty bastard. He's got the height and the build to be one. A lot of it is mentality too. Phillippe Coutinho is 5ft 6, and looks like a stiff breeze would blow him over. Is he soft? Not on your life. He's a greasy fast Brazilian bulldozer. He's a little bully. C'mon Brendan, let's get some nasty players in.
  16. I think it would be rather silly if Liverpool got rid of Brendan Rodgers. We don't want to become Chelsea dismissing managers left, right, and centre. Guess what? We were becoming Chelsea. Brendan definitely needs to see out the three years of his contract. I also wouldn't be premature in offering him an extension until the end of next season. Unfortunately we cannot predict the future. The story of our season was, we had no scouting network, so Brendan went for the ''tried and trusted'' with his major signings. However the consensus on both is still up in the air. Joe Allen started pretty well but struggled, this mainly has to do with his shoulder injury. Fabio Borinis season was ruined by injury. However both are young. Both are extremely talented. This leads me to January. Daniel Sturridge was scouted but technically was a no brainer. He gave us something we've not had since FT left. A player that not only plays on the shoulder of the last defender. He occupies two defenders. His recent run of 10 goals in 14 league games meant that he was the most lethal finisher in the premier league. Daniel Sturridge was a player that wanted a chance, but was never given one. In other words, he has a point to prove. Again in other words....he's hungry. We need hungry players. What he needs to do is to keep that hunger. Brendan needs to keep him mean and nasty, and selfish and most of all..............hungry. There is nothing wrong with a player of Daniel Sturridges' type being selfish. Bob Paisley told Ian Rush( same type of striker) to be selfish. However with that selfishness comes awareness. This is the thing he's improved on since he's arrived. This leads me to Philippe Coutinho. How wrong I was on him? I thought it would take months to bed in. I was afraid he was going to be another Aquilani. A player that came out of Serie A and would struggle. He's bedded in superbly. 3 goals and 7 assists says it all. He's 20 years old and he passes the ball with razor sharp accuracy. You would swear it was Jan Molby in his pomp. His pass against Fulham for Sturridges 3rd goal was out of this world. If his surname was scholes, the media would be pulling themselves off over it. To end this post. I would like to see players of the standard of Dan Sturridge and lil Phil arrive in the summer. The squad is small, but all the players are useful. The same cannot be said of previously. We had players in the squad we couldn't rely on i.e Dossena, El Zhar etc. The squad needs to be bulked up considerably. Departures. Well there is the obvious three. Carroll, Spearing, and Pacheco. Jamie Carragher is retiring and Danny Wilson is being released. Oussama Assaidi could be key to us getting Eriksen. He's rated at £17 million, but we could pull him for £13 million and Assaidi. Apparently Ajax want him. He was happier in Holland anyway. Arrivals. I hate the name mentioning thing, but I usually take the Liverpool Echo as gospel. Tony Barrett is 99% correct too as is James Pearce. Liverpool apparently want that Greek defender, Tiago Llori and Kolo Toure on a free. They also want Diego Capel. Rumour has it that there is interest in the Dutch league particularly in Rotterdam. It may not be Eriksen but it could be Kevin Strootman of PSV. Now that is the player we need in the middle of the park. He's of the Moussa Dembele ilk. A player I feel is vastly under-rated. Mo Diame is another, but we may not be able to get the Hammers to part with him, even if it's a bargaining tool in the obvious Andy Carroll sale. It's onwards and upwards. I feel this summer is going to be critical.
  17. Luis Suarez said ''His words were twisted'' and he's angry over this. I've a feeling he's staying for another season at least. But we must give him what he both deserves and craves, and that is champions league football. It's all about challenges and not money with Luis Suarez, he wants to butt heads with Europes best defenders. The only thing that will make him leave is boredom.
