  1. Nah not for me. How did we get elected in 97, 2001 and 2005 if this is true? I believe that there are a lot more fair minded people in this country (of every party persuasion) than people recognise. But there is a balance to be made between giving a little to be fair and giving a lot to be fair. That is were the seesaw starts to move in one direction or the other.
  2. Greens (and UKIP) shouldn't even be political parties. Both are pressure groups and should be spending their time and money lobbying the political parties - not being one. Unfortunately the political systems we have gives them no other choice other than to become a party to gain that political voice/influence. Neither will ever gain any real political influence (thankfully and sadly at the same time) but it is the only way to get the political establishment to listen to their respective messages.
  3. Easy jibe to throw and yes they have sold out on some issues but hands up if you think anyone would have a ten grand tax free personal allowance if eithe rLabour or Conservatives had won the the last election. * scans room and sees no hands - rests case.
  4. As ever another post containing a mix of the insightful coupled with unthought through cobblers then finished off your customary jibe at anyone who makes money who by default have to be uncaring, selfish and greedy.
  5. Funding for Labour and Tories at £11m and £8m respectively (no idea about the Lib Dems), Labour just recruited Obamas PR man and all three parties probably have a PR machine that could take over a sizeable office complex. Please make sensible comparisons. Its a bit like suggesting that I can take on Lewis Hamilton at the next Grand Prix in my 9 year old Megane on the basis that it is a car and has four wheels.
  6. I don't think they have a real core vote. They are a protest party who will fade away in a few years time. I reckon their support is a measure of how pissed off people are with the other three parties.Which is very.
  7. The political establishment in this sense. Those elected and unelected people who make all the real decisions behind closed doors and then send it out to the legions of media trained career politicians to sell it to us in the name of whatever party they represent. I hope UKIP put the fear of god into the lot of them and then - and only then - they may start to take note of what the people of this country are really saying and thinking. Probably as close to a revolution as the people of Britain will get in my lifetime. Feels a bit exciting. And before you ask I'm not interested in any of UKIPs policies as they will never gain the power to implement any of them. Just a means to an end for me.
  8. If you intend moving back up north have you thought about buying even if it is short term? House prices are moving upwards and it tends to ripple out from London and the SE. You could get very lucky.
  9. Clearly he is a good player, as we all know, but where do those people in favour of his return see him playing in a BR team? I personally do not rate him as a centre back so don't see any great improvement on what we already have. He now lacks the pace to be a full back in our team. If we look to play him alongside Gerrard then we lose an attacking midfielder thereby reducing our offensive threat. I just can't see it happening anyway. If his wife was too thick to learn English in the five years she spent in the UK I am pretty sure she won't have bothered while she was living in Barcelona.
  10. Good analysis. Seems pretty objective too. My preference based on the above would be Rodriguez but the disposession stats are really alarming. basically one fuck up per game and when it happens it could leave us badly exposed. That part of his game would definitely need to be worked on. But he appears to be exactly what BR is looking for from his full backs/wing backs.
  11. I'm happy to leave it to the club to decide. They see these players day in day out, they know if there are any external issues (language, homesick etc) but, most importantly, they know if these lads have any real potential to push on and come good. Over the last couple of seasons at various times I have wanted us to get rid of a few players including Henderson and Sterling, now I'd hope the club could get the best part of £100m for the pair if they sold them. So I will leave it to the people who clearly know much more than I do.
  12. As I've said before I hope every Scot makes the right choice for themselves and their families but for the right reason.
  13. Bet he was singing God Save The Queen, especially this verse: Lord, grant that Marshal Wade, May by thy mighty aid, Victory bring. May he sedition hush, and like a torrent rush, Rebellious Scots to crush, God save the Queen
  14. I know this will upset you Bobby but....I would. I'd gag it first though. And Flint. But not Paddy.
  15. With respect Stu your post included the following phrase: Left to the free market it would mean the displaced worker in Sunderland has to emigrate to Poland Hopefully you can understand my "confusion".
  16. What what? What part of welders and shipbuilders becoming surplus to requirements on the Clyde, Mersey and Tyne (and many other places) because UK shipping companies decided to build their ships in Poland are you missing? A UK based shipping company chooses to build a ship in a foreign shipyard rather than a British one - happened hundreds of times which is why we have almost no shipyards left. Is this not an example of the free market? What becomes of the now redundant workforce? I suppose they could be shit stand up comedians but you said that the rest would have to move where the work is. I don't understand your confusion.
  17. Here is my view of the issue. If you know the NHS needs 10,000 more midwives and the politicians arrange for the immigration of 10,000 midwives then you may want to carry those politicians shoulder high round the car park of your local maternity unit. If you are one of 10,000 unemployed bricklayers and the politicians arrange for the immigration of 10,000 bricklayers then you may want to carry those politicians shoulder high to the nearest multi-storey car park so you can throw them off the top floor. If you have controlled immigration you have the chance of making the first happen. If you have uncontrolled immigration there is a chance the second may happen. My view is that most people in the UK recognise the differences between the two examples above. It does not make them racist or bigotted.
  18. Not just "them". They dumped everyone regardless of whether or not they were native or immigrant.
  19. So if you are right then the shipyards of Gdansk will be full of welders and shipbuilders who learned their trade on the Clyde, Mersey and Tyne. Is this the case? I have a suspicion that it is not.
  20. This complete tosh. The mass immigration of the 50s and 60s took place when the UK had full employment and the economy was dominated by huge the state owned monopolies running steel, iron, coal, rail, docks, gas, electricy, transport, telephony, mail, nhs and so on.
  21. Top tip - ignore most of the rubbish spouted here by people who drove through it or had a mate who.... I lived in Stony for a year and thought it was great. Pub crawls down Stony high street are legendary. About a gazillion pubs less than a mile apart. Stony is an historic market town so most of the shops are now estate agents but the pubs are still there including the Cock and the Bull - two pubs separated by an alleyway and the suggested source of the phrase "cock and bull story".. Shopping centre is boss (MK1?). Me and the lad learnt to sail on Willen Lake and there are lots of nice walks around it. Stony has an annual "Folk of the Green" gig that attracts people from all over. But really just an excuse for everyone to sit on the village green and drink all day. Bletchley is a bit shit and there are some pockets that you may want to avoid but overall a clean and tidy place. Easy access to M1 and MK station is on the mainline. I really enjoyed my time there as there was always something going on or something to do. Obviously you are in day trip to London territory - only 50 miles - another bonus. Also within easy reach of loads of other places. Silverstone is just up the road. Bletchley Park on your doorstep. MK Bowl. My advice is give it a go and make your own mind up.
