  1. The trouble seems to be that too many of our players are just too scared to try something. Downing just constantly picks the safe option. Henderson looks to be a player with potential but he really needs to start having some belief in himelf. There was one point in the 2nd half when he completely killed the momentum of an attack by playing a pointless pass back to a teammate at a gentle pace when there was a wide open space in front of him to move into. Too many of our players seem to think if they don't give the ball away they can't be blamed if a move breaks down.
  2. Erm... Agger Spearing Johnson No one comes out of that game with any great credit. They're just the players who seemed to piss me off less than anyone else. Spearing gave the usual solid but unspectacular shift we seem to get from him most games while Agger and Johnson at least seemed to be trying to make something happen at times when going forward rather than just playing 5 yard sideway passes. Pretty depressing that it's 2 defenders I'm saying that about.
  3. Got to the pub a bit late and we were already 1-0 down. Was told Downing had missed a good chance in the first few minutes and Reina had been at fault for the opening goal. It seemed to sum our season up entirely: wasteful in attack and guilty of stupid individual mistakes in defence. We played well in patches and 3-0 was harsh but we could have played all night and not scored. When Barry got sent off I thought it might at least set us up for a late siege on their goal but within about a minute we'd got caught on the break, given a penalty away and it was game over. Have no idea how we could even get caught out like that because we never seemed to have anyone other than Carroll in their box so God knows what some playerswere doing. I'd been looking forward to this game all day and while I wasn't confident of a win at the very least I thought we'd give City a really good game but when something goes wrong for us everything seems to go wrong for us and after hearing the club wasn't going to bother appealing the Suarez ban I fully expected a tame defeat to round off a shit day and the team didn't disappoint.
  4. Can't see this happening at all. Centre back is surely one of the last positions that currently needs strengthening. If there is money to spend then I really hope it all goes towards attacking players.
  5. Thought it was gonna be another of those days when they scored a lucky goal with their first attack. Good job we got a quick equaliser as they were so well organised that it could have become really difficult had it stayed 0-1 for any length of time. Gerrard obviouslymade the difference when he came on and we seemed to need that lift because it had gone completely flat at the start of the second half. Bellamy was excellent too and Downing had a decent game. Thought Johnson combined really well with Downing and Skrtel did brilliantly to somehow hook that Ba effort off the line. Was nice to get some goals for a change even though it was probabably one of our least dominant performances this season.
  6. Fair point - we work with what we've got instead of just throwing money at the problem. I'm always hearing how promising some of our young attacking players are but I never see the reserve or youth teams. Do people on the board think any of these are ready to step up?
  7. Are they talking about a proper transfer or another loan? Still find it pretty annoying Spurs were able to get a striker of proven quality in Adebayor pretty much for free for the whole season.
  8. Wouldn't exactly be doing cartwheels if we signed him but I wouldn't be as dismayed as some people on here. His overall game seems pretty poor but he has had a decent scoring record wherever he's played - even at Spurs he seemed to have a reasonably good scoring record for the amount of games he actually started. Villa wouldn't let him go on the cheap though and it would be a case of another 20 million or so for another player who is far from top class. If he scored a decent number of goals and we qualified for the champions league he would just about justify that fee. We either go for a signing like Bent or a promising youngster. People thinking we're going to get someone of the quality of Cavani or Higuain just aren't being realistic.
  9. Can't say I'm too confident about this match, even less so now Suarez is suspended. I'd probably go with Carroll over Kuyt just in the hope that playing against his old club might inspire him. Newcastle's keeper has been making amazing saves all season so considering playing at Anfield seems to turn every mediocre opposition keeper into a hybrid of Gordon Banks and Ray Clemence this season god knows what it will do to him. Hopefully Gerrard will be fit enough to start because we could really do with him at the moment.
  10. Suppose it could have been worst but it's still utter bollocks after all the other players who have got away with doing exactly the same thing. Shame they didn't wait a week and he could have missed the Oldham game instead. If any player does this again any time soon the media should make a big issue of it if no charge and ban follows but of course they won't because the standard of sports journalism in this country seems to be at an all time low which is why the FA can pretty much get away with making the rules up as they go along unchallenged.
  11. Would Modric want to go to Chelsea now though? Spurs look in much better shape at the moment.
  12. Looking like the top 3 is pretty much wrapped up and it's us, Chelsea and Arsenal competing for 4th. At least both those sides unexpectedly dropped points at home as well this week although in many ways it just makes yesterday's result more frustrating. Spurs could finish above United if they had more belief in the big games. I still think it's mentality rather than ability that's keeping United above the other teams near the top. At home to Chelsea last week Spurs seemed to adopt the attitude near the end that a win would be nice but a draw against another top 4 contender wouldn't be too bad whereas United would have been going all out to win it in the last 20 minutes.
  13. I seriously think we are fucking cursed. Look it wasn't a good performance and we should be hammering shite like Blackburn but it's unreal how one of those two chances didn't go in for us at the end. I'm really not sure if Blackburn had a shot on target in that entire game. The goal attempt stats came up on my stream with 10 minutes to go and said they'd had one shot on target but not sure if that was their goal or not with it being an own goal. Is Downing ever going to contribute anything? 20 million for a winger who hasn't contributed a single goal or assist in half a season. The good news is Gerrard is back. The bad news is we're getting nowhere near fourth. Honestly can't believe we keep dropping points at Anfield against shite like this any more. Used to be something we did far too often but not every single fucking time.
  14. Never should have been a corner but this has been nowhere near good enough. Need to get Gerrard on for the second half. Didn't think even we could drop points at home against fucking Blackburn.
  15. There was a story linking us to him the other day. Can't remember which paper it was. I just noticed it on the BBC gossip column. Could be a cracking signing but probably not realistic.
  16. A top class striker would make a world of difference. Add a decent winger and I don't think we'd be too far away. Getting Gerrard back would obviously help too. Performances have largely been decent this season but the chances just aren't being put away. Defence looks decent enough with the current back 4 all playing well and decent cover in the likes of Carragher, Kelly and Coates if they suffer a loss of form or injury so I don't see any need to bring in anyone in that department.
  17. Enrique Agger Skrtel Reina had a decent enough game but didn't really do anything you wouldn't expect him to. Everyone else was average to poor.
  18. Nothing for us this season if we're gonna keep wasting chances like that. Four missed penalties out of 5 is pathetic. Started off pretty well but when the early breakthrough didn't come it all just fell apart and Wigan could just as easily have nicked that by the end. Really hope they get relegated because I'm sick of dropping points against them now. Enrique, Skrtel and Agger all had decent games but everyone else varied between average and really poor. What a shitty couple of days. Oh and I think this is actually the first time this season where I've thought the ref had a decent game.
  19. Very strong statement from the club. Based on that statement there seems to be no evidence other than Evra's word and to find Suarez guilty based on just that, let alone handing out an 8 game ban, is absolutely staggering. This could completely fuck our season up. Well done FA. Corrupt to the core.
  20. A good solid win. Wondered what was going on after 15 minutes, what with the 2 chances leading to 2 goals. Normal service resumed in the 2nd half with the missed chances and the return of the woodwork but I would have been happy enough with 2-0 at the start of the day. Team is playing some great football at the moment. Such a contrast to this time last year when I think we had a home game postponed and I was actually quite glad because I was completely fed up of watching us by that point (shame the Wolves game shortly afterwards wasn't postponed as well). Seen Villa a few times recently and they've looked absolutely shocking every time but but you can only beat what's in front of you and with Arsenal and Chelsea dropping points it's been a good weekend and hopefully the start of a good festive period.
  21. Bellamy Skrtel Shelvey - really impressed by him today. Looks to have improved a great deal since last season.
  22. Tevez would probably be great for a year or so then find some reason to want to leave and we wouldn't be able to afford to just freeze him out like City.
  23. Was it Lavezzi who kept being linked to us a few seasons back seemingly by no one other than his agent?
  24. It could have a big difference at the end of the season. There's probably not going to be a big gap between whoever finishes 4th and 5th. Take the other week. Luiz should have been sent off after 5 minutes at Newcastle and if he had they probably would have ended up drawing or losing that match. We almost certainly would have won at Fulham but for the ref so there's a potential 5 or 6 point swing right there. Ref had given the Silva penalty tonight (and I honestly don't know why he didn't because he had a perfect view of it) then they likely get 0 points instead of 3. So that's a potential 8 or 9 points. That's a massive swing and I don't believe any of this bollocks about it evening itself up over the course of the season.
