  1. Thought it would have been just like us to beat City and United then mess up against Wolves so very pleased with that. First half wasn't great but thought we were unlucky not to go in a goal up and we played some nice stuff after taking the lead. Better from Carroll and Spearing and Bellamy both had decent games. Adam was better and the back 4 all played well again with Johnson recovering well after a bit of a sloppy start.
  2. Bellamy Gerrard Downing Tough choice for 2nd and 3rd as so many players had good games with Kuyt and Agger both close to making my list.
  3. Great team performance that. Heads could easily have dropped when they went ahead twice and I must admit there were times when I thought it was destined not to be our night (hard to be positive when a defensive midfielder who has scored just once in over 100 previous appearances scores a 30 yard screamer against you while in the process of falling on his arse) but the team responded brilliantly both times and but for Hart it could have been a much more comfortable night. Bellamy was outstanding all night but everyone played well with Adam, Downing and Kuyt all upping their game considerably. Hopefully the team can produce another performance like that to knock United out on Saturday to make it a really good week.
  4. Good report. This game reminded me of the West Ham game in the second half of last season where again we were away at a team in the bottom 3 in shocking form and just seemed to think we needed to turn up to win and West Ham won pretty much every 50-50 challenge that day. It was probably even worst because Bolton have just looked unbelievably bad whenever I've seen them this season and I'm amazed they've got as many points as they have. I kept thinking there would surely be at least a ten minute spell where we laid siege to the Bolton goal but any time it looked like we were finding some momentum it just got completely killed by some sloppy overhit pass. Hopefully Kenny has made the players realise this was completely unacceptable and it will be a long, long time before we see anything as bad as this again.
  5. Bellamy Reina Henderson Even Reina and Henderson were shite but they were slightly less shite than everyone else. Really couldn't believe what I was watching at times during that game.
  6. I thought we did well to get rid of some of the players we had last summer. Unfortunately it's looking like some of the replacements are going to have to be moved on pretty sharpish. I never really rated Downing much but even I expected more from him than this. Carroll just isn't offering anything. I was happy when we signed him because he looked exactly like the sort of big powerful striker we needed to mix things up a bit but it's looking more and more like he was just a very average striker enjoying a purple patch like average strikers occasionally do. The flaws in Adam's game were apparent but he isn't even showing the strengths that made him look worth buying in the first place. Seems like this club constantly has to rebuild to make up for mistakes in the transfer market.
  7. An alarmingly bad performance. Didn't think they could possibly play as badly in the second half but they got even worst. It was like the Spurs game where virtually every player was below par and we didn't look at the races right from the start. As clueless as ever up front with the added bonus that the defence was a complete shambles too. Some other players needed to step up while Suarez was suspended and unfortunately none of them have. But what's all this about Kenny needing to go? It's starting to turn into a very disappointing season in the league and it's mainly because the big new signings haven't been good enough but he deserves some time to try and get things right. Just because we've started buying all their players doesn't mean we have to literally become Newcastle and start calling for the manager's head after every poor display.
  8. Well it was nicely set up for us today after Chelsea dropping points at Norwich and Newcastle getting hammered at Fulham and as usual we're blowing it spectacularly. Defence has looked all over the place and we'd be better off with ten men than having Adam on the pitch the way he's playing as all he's doing is constantly giving he ball and freekicks away. Kevin Friend and his assistants have been atrocious too. It's quite staggering how someone as bad at his job as he is can keep getting games.
  9. Can't say it really came as a surprise, especially after seeing our starting lineup. Seemed to just play straight into Stoke's hands by selecting all our grafters. Should have had a couple of penalties in the second half and the less said about that Kuyt miss near the end the better but overall it was nowhere near good enough. Depressing how we can win at Arsenal, Chelsea (twice) and Manchester City andyet constantly drop points against garbage teams at Anfield in the same season. The same players are doing well every week and it's the usual suspects letting the team down.
  10. Very happy with that. As many people have mentioned it was very much like the sort of performance that has served us so well in big European games over the years. It was spectacular but it didn't have to be. First half was excellent and we were by far the better team. Second half was just constant possession and pressure fo City but it was a bit like last week when I thought we could play all night and not score but this time I got the feeling they could play all night and not score. Only downside was the injury for Spearing. He doesn't seem to have much luck does he? Every time it looks like he might get a run of games in the team something seems to stop him. First that unbelievable red card at Fulham and now this. Everyone did a good job. Thought Gerrard and Agger stood out in particular.
  11. Really hope this incident isn't related to racism as it really would be the last thing the club needs right now but don't really see any point talking about it at the moment while there are completely conflicting reports coming out about what happened. As for the game ... well it was an awful start and we'd already rode our luck a few times before they scored but the goal seemed to get us going and the second half was much better. Good performances from Bellamy, Gerrard and Shelvey and hopefully Carroll and Downing will take some confidence from scoring although it would be nice if they could stick chances like that away in tight league games rather than a cup tie against lower league opposition that is already won.
  12. I made the mistake of looking at the forums for some other teams last night just to see what the general view on Suarez was. I knew things were bad but not that bad. I thought there might be at least some doubt about the verdict as after all Evra is hardly a popular player with most fans and the FA are seen as a bit of a joke most of the time. I found some random forums for Spurs, Arsenal, Man city, Bolton, Sunderland and Newcastle on Google and it was like looking and each time it was like I'd found a United or Everton forum by accident. You could count the number of threads doubting the verdict on one hand. Evra's version of events has been accepted as fact, Suarez is worst than Hitler and should be hounded out of the country as soon as possible, the FA are heroes in the fight against racism, Liverpool are a vile club who should face snactions for the way they have supported Suarez and dared to criticise the FA and all our fans are self pitying losers who have some paranoid belief that the world is against us. Depressing stuff. I thought it was maybe sensible to accept the ban and hope things might blow over but I don't think it's going to happen and maybe the club should have fought this all the way. It doesn't seem like we had a great deal to lose.
  13. Remember Zarate looking pretty decent when he was at Birmingham. Surely worth a shout if he was available on loan. No doubt the media would spin it so that Liverpool supported fascism if we signed him though.
  14. Hopefully it will be like the early rounds of the league cup and we'll play a combination of youth and experience. Why is this game being played Friday night if none of the tv stations are showing it?
  15. Well they didn't give him a fair hearing, they did reach a decision based on the facts of the case which no reasonable body could have reached, and the sanction was certainly excessive. Unfortunately the FA won't agree with me on this view.
  16. Have any clubs signed anyone yet? I've never really understood why so little happens at the start of transfer windows and then there's a mad rush at the end. You would think clubs had realised what they needed months beforehand and would be ready to make a move at the first opportunity. Maybe it's just a case of clubs haggling over prices but for the sake of a couple of million it's counter productive. It gives the buying club less time to work with that player and the selling club less time to bring in replacements. I'm not just talking about us here but I get the impression that most teams don't really have any great strategy and just panic and buy often completely unsuitable players just before the window closes out of sheer desperation.
  17. I wasn't entirely convinced by the signing of Adam but the one thing I thought he would provide was some decent set pieces. Looked like that would be the case too when in his first game he'd set up Suarez to score with a freekick. But they've been completely shite since. Rarely beats the first man from a corner and I don't understand why because whenever I saw Blackpool last season his corners seemed to cause all sorts of problems for the opposition. Agree about the point on short corners too. They seem to largely be a waste of time for pretty much any team with the exception of maybe Barcelona.
  18. Amazing how virtually not a single journalist has bothered to question the FA's report. Every article I've read about it reads as though there was loads of undisputable evidence and as though Suarez was found guilty in a proper court of law rather than the FA's Mickey Mouse court. The broadsheets are no better than the tabloids these days - they just write the same crap with slightly bigger words.
  19. The trouble seems to be that too many of our players are just too scared to try something. Downing just constantly picks the safe option. Henderson looks to be a player with potential but he really needs to start having some belief in himelf. There was one point in the 2nd half when he completely killed the momentum of an attack by playing a pointless pass back to a teammate at a gentle pace when there was a wide open space in front of him to move into. Too many of our players seem to think if they don't give the ball away they can't be blamed if a move breaks down.
  20. Erm... Agger Spearing Johnson No one comes out of that game with any great credit. They're just the players who seemed to piss me off less than anyone else. Spearing gave the usual solid but unspectacular shift we seem to get from him most games while Agger and Johnson at least seemed to be trying to make something happen at times when going forward rather than just playing 5 yard sideway passes. Pretty depressing that it's 2 defenders I'm saying that about.
