Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but been thinking about this team and how it's going to need to be refreshed over the next few years. It simply will have to because it's ageing and players contracts will expire. Think the next few years looks a bit like this? 2023 Contract expiries: Milner Keita Ox Firmino Transfers needed 1 minimum probably 2 midfielders required 1 New attacking player required Firmino goes 2024 Thiago out of contract will be 33 (hopefully renews( Transfers needed: Guessing we may not do alot this summer? 2025 Contract expiries: Vvd will be 34, Salah will be 33 Henderson 35 Transfers needed: 1 x front three 1 x cb 1 x cm 2026 Contract expires: Fabinho 32 and out of contract Andy Robertson 32 out of contract transfers needed ??? Assuming we allow these players contracts to expire rather than sell them, that's alot of top players to replace... I'm assuming in the majority of cases we will allow these contracts to run down or sell, because guys in their mid thirties aren't going to be able to play high pressing football every three days. The only way they could be retained is if the style of play changed to something more like what Real Madrid play with their quite old team (which they've been refreshing the last couple of summers) If so, this is alot of transfer money to find and players to replace....I guess some of this may be found by not having to pay their wages anymore

Carragher: Liverpool can still challenge for the league title
etho replied to TLW's topic in FF - Football Forum
I dont think we've suddenly dropped off that much. A shit start for various reasons and a drop off that's probably been due, for various reasons. Think with a bit of luck with injuries and the international break we can have a strong run to the world cup, and then we'll see. City will drop points. This team does need freshening up but the current iteration that almost won everything didn't just suddenly become shit -
That's true, it's more that it's pointless to say 'if a player didn't have this or that attribute', as they'd be a different player.

I think my previous response summed up the first paragraph of your post, but if you want another analogy, your statement would be a bit like saying if Virgil was 5 foot 6 he wouldn't be as effective a centre back. I agree with your points about Nunez looking overawed and nervous right now, and that is making him doubt his touch etc, and that he will settle down. I don't agree that he can only move in straight lines, think he's pretty mobile it's just that bigger guys naturally appear less agile than the smaller forwards were used to like Mane. Oh and it's an online forum so pretty sure Im entitled to post responses to football posts as I like, just as you as a fully grown man can be online at 2am and post personal insults to strangers you've never met on the internet.

Just saw the Haaland goal. He's basically Olivier giroud but with absolutely loads of pace

I think Klopp made it clear when he signed that he was a project, and there was alot of ceiling for improvement. That's clear to see. The price tag is a bit misleading as his upfront is only marginally more than richarlison, but it's obviously heaped on the pressure to be the main man. He's come into a struggling team that hasn't been created chances, and while it's clear to say he will play better and get better, to my eyes he always looks a threat and like something will happen
-
Played alright, would have already had them beaten most weeks playing like that. Nerves and confidence possibly a factor. Attitude definitely better, by a distance the biggest factor was having Matip vvd fabinho and thiago on the same pitch. Look like a completely different team with them (and Konate when he's back)
-
Have to say I really like Elliott and this isn't a criticism, but I don't think it looks right with him and Trent on that side
-
Given how were playing games off and time on the training pitch/getting players fit and rested may be a blessing
-
Whatever reputation the players had, at this moment for the vast majority it's gone. You can rest on your laurels or stand around admiring yourself. Need to start at the beginning with basics. Effort is the minimum we should expect
-
You can take poor form but you can't accept that effort. Never had this from this team and it's shameful
-
He'll be sent off against that lad
-
Milner and Gomez need to go off
-
This is a real low. Unforgivable.
-
I don't think it happens with Konate or Matip. Sooner they're back and Joe can be a 4th choice and a right back the better. Nowhere near good enough as a cb at this level
-
You can't legislate for that. It's so, so bad from Gomez. the failure to track the run after the mistake
-
Get in
-
That looked soft I must say, surprised they've called that back. Didn't look clear or obvious
-
Sounds like he must have fallen out with the squad surely. Mad otherwise with all that cash spent. Annoyingly they usually respond well to a new manager change, gonna be Pochettino surely
-
Sounds like we won't see Keita or Ox before the 'break'. They'll be like new players when they return though. I don't actually dislike either and think the ox has been unlucky at the start with us. But fuck me itll be nice when we're not counting them among the official midfield numbers
-
I don't think it's 'varacious defending'. It's more balanced sanity after a few games rather than negativity and baseless criticism
-
I wonder how many of these hysterical fannies have been really wrong about Klopps team before and have revelled in the success anyway. Pathetic
-
Get a grip. We're comfortably going in top four, none of them are that good still
