  1. What makes you think Kenny could get the team playing any better, he is only one man with his own ideas? Seriously people whinged when we were hoofing the ball clear now people whinge when we try and play from the back. It takes more than a manager to get you playing good football, some people live in a dream world and think if Kenny came in as manager we would all of sudden play like our late 80s team, seriously man get a grip we need to move forward.
  2. Only complete bafoons who live in the past chant for Kenny. What is most baffling is that if they really respected the guy the wouldn't wish the job on him, to not realise the consequence of him not over achieving with an average squad is very blinkered.
  3. Say what you want about Redknapp but he is spot on, every man and his dog including the ref and assistant seen Nani put his hand on the ball, so the foul should have been given it's just another example of referees with a chip on their shoulder using their egos to apply the rules rather than sensibility or logic. The look on his face when nani scored said it all it was a smug I told you so look rather than being bothered that he didn't do his job properly and apply the laws of the game to resolve the situation. Yes Gomez should have kept hold of the ball and played to the whistle but it doesn't excuse the bad refereeing, he should have blown his whistle, common sense. If it had happened to us i would hope our manager would say it was a farce as well. Blinkered you lot sometimes, no wonder half our fans live in the past.
  4. Dare I say it Mancini? I always thought Martin O'Neill handled himself really well and was gracious in defeat. Guus Hiddink is above them all though.
  5. Loving this personally from Broughton at least he is telling it how it is.... Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton has spoken exclusively to Sky Sports News about the proposed sale of the club. Broughton has confirmed that the agreed deal with New England Sports Ventures (NESV), the parent company of the Boston Red Sox baseball club, is worth around £300million. Broughton believes it will take a week for the deal to go through with current owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett challenging the sale via the courts, with the offer significantly under their own valuation of the Merseyside club. While Broughton admits he is disappointed by the American duo's stance, he does not expect them to hinder NESV's projected takeover of the club. "This was their last chance to leave with their heads high, it's a pity they have chosen this route," said the Reds chairman. "Part of the terms of me taking on the role was that they gave a written undertaking that only I could change the board and they would not interfere and frustrate any reasonable sale. "And this is frankly an abuse of these undertakings." Winning mentality Broughton revealed Liverpool had only received two bids that they deemed valid, with NESV's track record with the Red Sox proving a key factor in their decision. He also confirmed that the potential new owners plan to invest in new players in January, as well as exploring the prospect of a new stadium. "They want to be judged by what they do rather than what they say and can demonstrate what they plan to do by what they have done," added Broughton. "If you look at the Boston Red Sox as a classic example of taking a very famous, historic, major team that has seen better days and restored them to their glory, I think that is a parallel that demonstrates action. "Their mentality is all about winning. They have invested a lot of money in players [at the Red Sox] and they have committed to making the necessary investment in players at Liverpool." Substantial development Broughton revealed NESV have not decided whether to continue previous plans to build a new stadium in Stanley Park, or to redevelop Anfield, but he insisted the new ownership intend to have a 60,000 capacity ground in place either way. "They want to make sure they do the right thing on the stadium," said Broughton. "They have built stadiums and they have restored stadiums. They have not committed to which is the right thing. "We will have a stadium of more than 60,000. We will get substantial stadium development." Broughton gave positive indications on Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson's chances of having funds to spend in January adding: "I think there will be money for players in the next transfer window."
  6. I've seen him play in 5 or 6 u18 games, in those games he looked the real deal for me, superb confidence and vision and ability to play a killer precise pass for someone of his age. I went to the game at Newcastle reserves and was even more impressed, they resorted to hacking him in the end but even then sometimes he managed to stay strong, on his feet and avoid challenges, as he grows he will inevitably get stronger and be ready physically for the premiership. Think of Fabregas when he was 17 at Arsenal he got bullies and battered in a lot of games but he grew as a man and a player. I would say he reminds me a bit of Iniesta with a better long passing game and a better shot. I think he's the real deal absolutely but a lot can happen at that age to affect your career, he has to be mentally right as well as physically to progress, the talent is there no question.
  7. Reina was awful looks like nerves got the better of him when he finally got his chance. Torres didn't even come off the bench so thats good for us obviously. Not really sure why people are saying Spain shouldn't pick him, if he's fit he's fit, they can't just not pick him because he's only recently come back from injury He needs to build up his match fitness and stamina.
  8. Why on earth they are playing a friendly in south America is anyones guess can hardly be good for players travelling over there this early in season?
  9. Irishlad - torres is on the bench mate what game you watching?
  10. Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz: Liverpool have signed 'the complete player' in Raul Meireles International coach expects £11.5m man to thrive at Anfield... By Victor Vago 31 Aug 2010 08:00:00 Raúl Meireles EXCLUSIVE Portuguese national team coach Carlos Queiroz has hailed Liverpool’s signing of Raul Meireles from Porto, declaring that the player will be a great addition at Anfield. Liverpool splashed out £11.5 million on the Portuguese international midfielder on Sunday and expect him to help fill the gap left by the departure of Javier Mascherano to Barcelona. Meireles shone for Queiroz's side at the World Cup in the summer, and the former Manchester United assistant and Real Madrid coach told Goal.com that Liverpool supporters have much to look forward to. “I think Raul Meireles is a fantastic player in the national team," said Queiroz. "He’s one of the pillars of the Portugal team. He’s a great player and an excellent professional. “He has all the conditions to be a success in English football at Liverpool. They have just signed the services of a player who stands out for his application, his professional dedication, his technical and footballing quality, and will be very successful for the Liverpool team.” Meireles, 27, had six successful years at Porto; where he won four Portuguese league titles, three Portuguese Cups and three Portuguese Supercups. During that time he played 153 times in all competitions, scoring 15 goals, and has played 38 times for Portugal, scoring six goals. “He’s a box-to-box midfielder, he’s hard-working, creative, is a good finisher, he’s consistent, very solid, a great team player,” said Queiroz. Meireles’ qualities also extend to his approach off the pitch, according to the 57-year-old, who said: “He’s a great person who is serious, he’s a player who has a lot of capacity to communicate. He’ll be a great reinforcement for the Liverpool team.” Deadly in red | Raul Meireles played for Queiroz's Portugal at the World Cup But Queiroz also warned against any expectation that Meireles could contribute in the same way as the tough-tackling Mascherano had in his time at Liverpool. He added: “Every player needs his space and time. He’s Raul Meireles, not Javier Mascherano. “He’s a player who plays very well at both ends of the pitch, is good at defensive duties, but is also an attacking player with a very good nose for goal. He plays very well defensively and in attack. He’s a complete player.” Meireles will be expected to strike up a good understanding with Liverpool's captain and midfield stalwart Steven Gerrard, and Queiroz insists this will not be a problem. “All great players can play with great players," said Queiroz. "Steven Gerrard is a great player, and Raul Meireles is a great player, too.”
  11. Yeah they like him because he is their player but I know most of them groaned when they gave him the no.9 shirt as if it was an insult to Shearer. Of course they get behind him he is there player but I could ask 70-80 Newcastle fans I work with about us signing him and they would say "LIVERPOOL????" I can guarantee I've seen Andy Carroll play more than 95% of people on this forum and he isn't good enough for us or what we need.
  12. The fact that this thread even exist really worries me as a Liverpool fan. I live in Gateshead (even though my family is from Liverpool) where Andy Carroll is from and my gf is a Newcastle fan and knows him. Basically, if you said to a Newcastle fan we were insterested they would laugh, he's definitely improved as a player but is a lazy immobile striker with an attitude problem who thinks he's the next big thing, yes he has his strengths and uses, ie he is good in the air, holding the ball up and if the ball drops to his feet in the box he might get you a goal or two, but aside from that he's not the sort of player we should be going for, he lacks the quality and attributes we need. I'm worried!
  13. Don't really see the point in posting an old article it's only relevant at that time?
