  1. Exactly, a real victims mentality. They're ideally placed to be able to make a genuine challenge for trophies if they go for it. Stadium largely paid down and one of only a handful of clubs with a sustainable £300 million+ turnover. They really do need to grow a pair.
  2. Agreed, it's a concern, as we all know transfer sagas of this nature often derail the selling clubs transfer window. I'd hope we'd lined up our transfer targets but given that it might be a substantially different list given an extra £50 million or so, who knows? We haven't got that much time left now, we're reaching the point where we need to make a choice whether we're open to selling him or he stays where is (with the risk of how Suarez reacts). Point I'm hopelessly trying to make is that it is Liverpool that needs to remain in control here, not Suarez and certainly not whichever club is interested in him.
  3. The Liverpool Word | Liverpool FC’s Recent Accounts: Reading Beyond the Numbers A pretty detailed breakdown of recent accounts, net spending, wages etc. a bit out of date now, but it does supprt the position that FSG are unlikely to be selling us in the near future.
  4. Spot on, that's my feeling too. I have very little to criticise FSG for financially and after G&H it could have been much, much worse.
  5. I'd agree entirely with your post and in truth despite the temptation I wouldn't want a sugar daddy owner. As I said 'making more with less', despite the stick that Wenger has received he's done an outstanding job keeping them competitive. The Emirates stadium put Arsenal's finances in a difficult situation for several years, simply remaining top four has been a considerable achievement. They are however an exception to the rule. Let's hope that our current manager is cut from the same cloth.
  6. We are but we're not able to invest at the levels of the clubs we wish to compete with. Our competitors have greater income, unlimited backing or already established infrastructure. Our failure predates even G&H, we've missed the boat by not dealing with our limited stadium capacity a decade or so ago. I'd suggest that FSG's plan falls down because what is actually required is a significant investment beyond their means in order to break the stranglehold of the top four and thus allowing us to unlock higher income levels alongside higher quality player recruitment. I'm not knocking them for not putting in substantial additional investment, football is littered with casualties throwing money at it. I suspect they'd hoped that FFP would protect them from this. At present we're hoping to break the top four with a lower level of funding and the hope that our management team will bridge the gap by making more out of less. I'm still hoping for a complete collapse in football financing, a levelling of the playing field. I'd assumed it might have happened by now, but each TV deal just gets bigger and bigger.
  7. FFP is a busted flush already, it has had a limited effect of causing clubs like City to hesitate but it hasn't prevented their spending. They're getting around it by inflating sponsorship deals and buying as many assets for the club as possible. FFP is a flawed concept anyway, it's intention is not to create a level playing field but rather to protect the interests of the established elite against new money upstarts. It'll end up in the courts and go the way of Bosman if UEFA every really try to implement it.
  8. So we shouldn't be buying players who come in and turn out to brilliant for a couple of seasons and then having to sell them on for a huge profit? As unhappy as we are with Suarez at the moment we're still going to double our money on him.
  9. I'd be very surprised if any of these rumours were anything but complete nonsense at the moment. Further down the line it's entirely plausible they will sell up, personally if I had to place a bet I'd say they'll be gone before any stadium plans are ever implemented. That's not a criticism, they're an investment group and I still struggle to see a profit for them out of us, even allowing for increased TV and marketing revenues. They're not that weathly in absolute terms and I suspect establishing us back at the top table in football might prove to be too rich for them. In financial terms they've been pretty reasonable owners to date, we appear to have been alllowed to spend everything we generate plus a steady if relatively modest net investment. It wouldn't be fair to compare them to G&H. Unfortunately football financing is an arms race at present and a sustainable model based around living within our means will probably add up to little more than a managed decline. The gap between ourselves and the top teams widening each year. The hope of FFP protecting FSG and allowing sustainable development without significant investment receding every transfer window.
  10. I've quit smoking 30 a day without a single craving. My brain just thinks it's switched to a nicer smoke. I'm vaping less than I smoked with very low nicotene or no nicotene liquids. Personally I think it's much more pleasant. I'd tried everything to give up, cold turkey, patches, gums, sprays, even hypnotherapy. I'd last a couple of weeks at most. I'd tried over the counter e-cigarettes first but they just didn't give a big enough hit, they tasted pretty odd and there wasn't a big enough drag off them. Try a proper vaping mod, with a variable mod you can adjust the size of the drag and you get a much nicer smoke off them than cigarettes. Lots of interesting e-liquids too. It's also much cheaper than smoking. It's still not good for you but it's a fraction as damaging as fags. You'll have given up putting tar, carbon monoxide plus 1,500 cancer causing chemicals into your system. I can't quite describe how much healthier I feel now, just as I did before I started smoking fags. If you're looking to quit with vaping make sure you use a high enough nicotene e-liquid, that'll take care of your cravings. I started with 24mg, but only use 8mg now.
  11. Yep that's it, as always zigackly knows! Mycrofts are superbly crafted, he builds them in batches and sells a set off every few weeks. Pricey but worth it if you like that sort of thing. I've stuck a mini viva nova tank and a long curved stem mouthpiece on mine. Just feels right. A few other makers of artisan pipes are... Steam Pipes shop - Mikropipe's e-Pipase-Pipes - labuenapipa.com They've got some really good looking pipes when they come up for sale.
  12. Congratulations, been a month for me now and I haven't had a single craving for an analogue. I much prefer vaping so my brain doesn't have an issue. I'm even smoking nicotene free varieties now. My Vamo and Innokin MVP are both going great, the latter is a brilliant portable vape, usb charged, variable voltage. However I've now got into e-pipes and I've bought one from here. Handmade Electronic Pipes For Sale Buy Epipes E-pipes - Mycroft Milverton's Magnificent Electronic Pipes Just feels right and they're wonderfully crafted pipes.
  13. It's salary demands that is the issue, we'd need to be paying way over the odds as City did to attract players to progress rapidly upwards. Given that we're looking to reduce wages to a more sustainable level that clearly isn't an option. I'm not sure the traditional method of gradually building a side over several years bringing players through and spotting up and coming talent can actually stand up to the onslaught of the unlimited commercial market that is modern football. I hope I'm wrong.
  14. It's the nature of football supporters the world over, we're fickle. Player X is a $*!!$!, until he's our player.
  15. Actually I can't say that I am, I'm clearly not thrilled at the idea of him joining a rival simply because it damages our prospects. However expecting foreign players with no obvious allegiance to the club e.g. a local homegrown player, who has been with us a little over two years to swear to an act of loyalty beyond his time with us is simply unrealistic. I'm probably just immune to the whims of modern footballers, I don't expect loyalty. As for Suarez motives I would imagine he views us a stepping stone, same for Arsenal if they're not challenging in 18 months.
  16. I agree we shouldn't just bend over, it's a risk calculation but if we play hardball as say Spurs have tried over the last few seasons, the result is ultimately the same. I'd like to see us hang on to him for a little while and see if we can't get a few clubs to bid for him. I would have thought we could flush them out now within a couple of weeks, just don't leave it till the last couple of days of the transfer window! If he goes as seems likely, we also need plenty of time to attempt to strengthen the squad.
  17. Seriously? Sure the club may have made mistakes but this situation is not of the clubs making. This is simply Suarez and his agent agitating for a move.
  18. It doesn't often work like that, ultimately he can put in a transfer request and behave like a real sod, which I wouldn't rule out. He could wipe millions off his value hence the reason why clubs usually offload unless the buying club offers shite e.g. often Real Madrid. I can see him going to Arsenal for £45 million made up of something like £40 million plus extras.
  19. I hope you're right, we don't have the best record with regard to legal advice, I hope Suarez's contract wasn't drawn up by that solicitors recommended by the bird in PR? They did her house conveyance pretty well though.
  20. Depends if it's really a release clause, I can see a right royal fuck up looming on our part. Suarez can talk to as many clubs as he likes but without our contractual agreement and his player registration there's not much he can do unless it turns out that the clause is a release clause. Agreed, I can see this heading for arbitration....
  21. Exactly, Arsenal and Spurs are two of the clubs we need to be immediately targetting. We'd be better off selling him to City or Chelsea if he's staying in the Premiership.
  22. I hope the club cut a deal with him for an extra season irrespective of the eventual transfer value, it will be much easier for us to bring in quality additions to the squad if he leaves next summer with us qualified for the CL. Easier said than done. Even if we get £55 million for him now, it's going to be difficult to attract the better players with our lack of CL football and our best player leaving precisely because of that. Scouting and the transfer committee really have do their job, FSG have to stump up a bit of cash plus the amount we've raised this summer already. Glass half empty here but I can't help feeling this is the last chance saloon for us to be genuinely competitive at the top end of the table.
