1. King Kenny..Thank you..but it is time to go..out and buy a .44 Magnum..the most powerful handgun in the world..and start dispatching the biggest mongs among the fans for their good..and the good of the world..Thank you..
2. What doesn't add up? We went for Llorente but couldn't get him. We were in a rush. Carroll was not first choice. We made the justification that we sold Torres for 'a replacement plus $15 million' so Henry came out and said the way it was looked at financially was not as if it was 35 million for Carroll. With regards to the money, even now with Kenny confirmed as manager - he would still have no part in the fees we pay. He has a voice in transfer decisions but he doesn't negotiate fees. It's not his remit. Kenny has said that Suarez and Carroll were not his signings. I don't really care how it 'looks'. Carroll's signing was not being questioned only the price, and Suarez's signing was hailed a triumph - so he said what he said to pass credit and praise to Comolli. I don't doubt his integrity or truthfulness. Anyway back to the topic. I can't honestly say whether the structure we now have has been a good thing or not because as fans we don't have enough knowledge of the day to day mechanics to make any good assessment. The structure announced last March/April suggested that Kenny reports to Comolli. Since then I've heard time and again that Kenny has final say on transfers etc but it would be a very unusual organisational structure where a manager reports to a Director and the Director isn't in fact the one with final say. As I said, we just don't know. It seems to me the structure is very dependent on everyone getting along, having a shared vision and working as a team. How it functions if there is a difference of opinion - is anyones guess.
3. I don't think we know for sure who has final say or exactly how things work. Just in this thread alone there are about 4 different suppositions put forward, all quite feasible and although we may believe x or imagine y - we simply don't know for sure. In Kenny's Autobiography which he updated for the 2010 -2011 season a few months back. He gives all the credit for last January's signings - Suarez and Carroll - to Comolli and makes it clear it was not his call on either. This is supported by the fact that when he was confirmed as the Manager, he said at the press conference that he had, had no input into transfers up to that point because as caretaker it was not his place but that he would be involved in the management team discussions going forward.
4. I'm going to back Barry up here as a lot of people seem to have questioned him saying this but it is valid. The Management structure was put in place before Kenny was made permanent manager but he was made permanent managewr within that structure. It has not changed so know new announcement is required. As of March 2011 the DoF is in charge of the footballing side of the club. The Manager reports to him. Kenny has input into who is signed, true, and he may well have wanted Henderson. However, the negotiation and the commercial dealings are DC's and he would have determined the price. Henderson is going to be judged on whether he was a good signing at 16 mill and if people think he wasn't they may blame Kenny. But when he agreed he was a suitable target he might have had 8 mill in mind. He might think 16 mill was too much to spend but it's not his call. It is also totally possible for DC to recruit a player without Kenny's agreement, I'm not suggesting that has happened here but we have no way of knowing. The reality is DC is Kenny's boss he holds more power on the footballing side than Kenny does. However, Kenny is going to be the public face of many club decisions whether they are his or not because people haven't got there head around this structure. The media are all reporting Dalglish does this, targets that - but when Henderson arrived at Melwood wearing a DC training top and was met by DC, Kenny was nowhere to be seen.
5. You seem to know a bit about what happened at Newcastle so you have to know about the situation with the debt and the players that had to be sold and the injury to Shearer etc. It wasn't 'amazing' but the cup run wasn't bad. And while I've never seen anyone suggest Kenny did "Amazing" things at Newcastle I regularly see people belittle his time there without providing any of the context to what went down. It was a poison chalice.
6. I would have to respectfully disagree. I think they are fine. I think a lot of our fans don't come out of this looking too good tho - a bit emo etc Oh and I'm sorry I don't have any pictures of fry-ups but I'm pro-beans fwiw
7. Probably. Life is never as black and white as most football fans want to make it. Case in point - before Kenny left Celtic for Liverpool. Jock Stein asked him to sign a new contract. Kenny said, I'm leaving. Jock said, we have a cup final and if the media pick up on the fact you may go, it will be a big distraction. Kenny agreed to sign the contract so there wouldn't be media scrutiny of his plans but he did so knowing he would go and having told Jock Stein the same. I suppose that makes Kenny a liar. on the other hand, I suppose he did what he thought was best for the team in that moment with the season still in full-swing and trophies still up for grabs. Now I subscribe to the view that when the window isn't open, you sing from the fucking hymn sheet. You say all is rosy and you are staying whether you are or not because it is in the best interests of the club who pays your wages in that moment. So therefore, I am asking players to lie. So I probably can't get the shits if they do. Bottom line no one makes a decision that's important for a single reason. Life is just far more complicated than that. There would have been a lot of factors involved. It really doesn't matter a damn what the reasons were now as the outcome is just the same. I have a lot of respect for both men. They gave me some great memories. I wish them both well.
8. Ok found it. They showed it on the LFC Now show at 7pm
9. What was the name of the show on lfctv they showed that on or what time approximately did it air? Wouldn't mind tracking that down for a looksie
10. According to 'Opta Sally' NGog has more tackle than any OTHER PL player Discuss.
11. I thought it was interesting that he expected to play with Torres - as plenty of the 'intelligensia' on here hypothesised otherwise. I also thought it was interesting that he says he is being trained by Kenny because it is routinely suggested that Kenny has little to with actual training. If so much absolute shit wasn't posted by so many no-nothings on this site it wouldn't make puff pieces seem like pieces of great substance I guess.... just a thought.
12. Luis Suarez loving life at Liverpool FC under Kenny Dalglish LUIS SUAREZ says he is enjoying life at Liverpool under the guidance of Anfield legend Kenny Dalglish. The Uruguayan striker has made a highly-promising start to his Reds career, having joined from Ajax in a £22.8m deal at the end of January. A debut goal against Stoke City was followed by a Man of the Match display against Manchester United eleven days ago. Dalglish has been effusive in his praise for the 24-year-old's attitude and work-ethic since his arrival, and Suarez, who is ineligible to play against Braga tonight, says the respect is mutual. "Having a manager like Kenny Dalglish is really great for me," he said. "He is a person of great history and importance at the club. He's one of the best players the club has ever had and now he's correcting me and training me. I think it's really great for me to work with a legend such as Kenny and I have enjoyed it so far." Suarez's performances since his switch to Merseyside have taken on extra significance in the wake of Fernando Torres' acrimonious £50m departure to Chelsea on transfer deadline day. As the Uruguyan has shone at Anfield, Torres has found life tough at Stamford Bridge, and has failed to score in his first six outings for his new club. Suarez, though, admits he arrived at Anfield expecting to be a partner to, rather than a replacement for, the Spaniard. "Yes, it's true I expected to play with Fernando," Suarez said. Fernando is a very good player. He's got great quality and it would have been nice to play with him. "It's a shame that he's gone as he is an excellent player and has great qualities. But at the same time there are many other great players at Liverpool. "When one top player goes, perhaps another great player comes in." That other great player could well be fellow new signing Andy Carroll, who is set to take another step closer to full fitness against Sporting Braga in the Europa League at Anfield tonight. At £35m, Carroll became the most expensive British player of all-time when he joined from Newcastle on the same day as Torres departed, and Suarez admits he is looking forward to forging a partnership with the Geordie striker. "Carroll and Torres are very different players," he said. "Andy has had an injury and he's just starting to come back into the game. They have different qualities and ways of playing the game, so you can't really make comparisons. "They have different styles - one might be better at one thing and the other better at something else. "Andy is a big, strong player with many qualities and it will be exciting to play with him." 16. As I already said, I don't think there is anything wrong in being a tough negotiator, far from it. I think Dalglish will be more than capable of taking care of Dalglish. However, as I also already said, I think the article in the Express is bollocks, because it contains factual inaccuracies and because the way it depicts Dalglish is in contradiction to what (albeit little) is known about what demands he has made to date. - in the past For example, he took a very short-term role with no protracted negotiations in January etc I await some reliable word of his appointment being made permanent but I don't believe reliable word that any negotiations of any kind are happening - has been received imho - as I consider John Richardson of the Express a fantasist/idiot. @beerhunter - I'm more of a history buff than a Columbo but thanks mate.
17. Neither, Bob, Kenny or Alan retired pre BBC and I have some footage of Bob being interviewed but he was a humble man of few words so there's not a lot around full stop. I don't have a clip of him saying that tho - but if you saw this on TV then it's findable as I don't think TV in the UK is pre BBC, as they were the UK's first broadcaster I think? Here is what Kenny said in his book about one set of contract negotiations. You may come away, as I did, with the impression, he was not an especially hard-nosed negotiator. So you can see why this along with a couple of other things have given me a contrary impression - there isn't a lot of info around about the negotiating of his contracts at Celtic or Liverpool though - only a couple of anecdotes like this one
18. I know it's not a criticism - I don't think there is anything wrong in being a tough negotiator, far from it. I'm genuinely interested in insights into these people - and as I said this just contradicts what I've heard. I have more footage, tv interviews, documentaries and old matches of LFC - than anyone I know lol - my hard drive is groaning under the strain. If you can tell me what TV show or even the year I may have it and if not I can probably track it down. So let me know as I'm genuinely interested. Cheers.
19. And where can I find that quote from Bob Paisley? I have a pretty wide range of LFC books including a couple on Paisley and I don't have that quote. Which is not to say it's not true perhaps it is but you must have got it from somewhere yes - so can you tell me where as I've not seen it? It goes 100% against everything in Kenny's book. It also contradicts the fact Kenny said he accepted the caretaker job when he got the phone call by saying "yes" and that despite reports - he actually made no demands at all.
20. Er... really? When Kenny was a player there was never any protracted negotiations over his contracts, he offered, true story, to sign the contract and leave the club to fill in the numbers. He said to PBR I trust you completely and he meant it. Care to cite your source or some basis? I have an open mind I'm willing to hear out your reasons for claiming he was renowned for being difficult to negotiate with but I have a lot of info and quotes to the contrary so I'd be surprised if that were the case if it is.
21. As much as I want this to be true in principle - this article is complete and utter bollocks. Take this line - "Steve Clarke, who was brought in as a coach to work alongside Dalglish by Damien Comolli" - that's completely incorrect. Dalglish bought in Clarke and in one of the many videos I've uploaded he definitely said how he talked to Clarke on the phone on the Sunday and he was at training on the Monday morning and it showed how committed and keen Clarke was to work with LFC etc but Clarke is Dalglish's signing. In my experience when an article is full of big factual holes like this one - and it comes from the Express - then it's just made up. They make a fuck of a lot up at that paper, always have done.
22. It's interesting he says "you don't have to prove you are a professional" - as if he did have to prove that here? And why would that be front of mind now? He played for us for a few seasons surely his professionalism had been 'proven' for a long time here. Unless (all speculation and conjecture) someone had called him out on the way he was playing and the shift he was putting in and told him to step up and be a professional? There were plenty of fans who could see he wasn't giving it 100% - could it be team mates or Kenny had a talk. Makes you wonder. And if there was a 'talk' might explain why he's coming out with his catty little comments. Someone may have struck a nerve. Anyway, I am glad he's gone best thing that could have happened as it turns out.
