The fact that he hasn't played in a two with a tackler like Parker alongside him for a long time might have made him look out of place it didn't. He was box to box in the half they played. He still got forward and the goal came because of a run of his pulling a defender away. It's great when Gerrard is in midfield because he still gets forward but instead he has two forwards to play with not just one. He is also running forward rather than standing with his back to goal. Mongs like you can't stand it because it shows Gerrard is more than what Benitez wants you to believe. Pulling out the 'hollywood balls' shout out makes you sound like a manc. He tried only one or two long balls all game. Hopefully Hodgson will do what managers of England have failed to do in the past and keep it this way. Play to Gerrard's and Englands strengths. We aren't Spain, we haven't got a load of players who are comfortbale on the ball doing sixty passes. We have got most strong aggressive direct players why not use that? Everyone was laughing at Hodgson the other day when he said you don't always have to play the short pass, but why not? When Carroll is in this sort of form nobody in the world is going to be beating him in the air and we have got some very pacy players. Why not use them? I think England might surprise a few posters on here this summer if Hodgson sticks to that formation.

I agree with you. I just don't remember anyone saying Gerrard would have taken a better one when Adam consistently fucked his up. I don't think there is any added pressure taking a set piece for Liverpool because Gerrard hasn't stood out taking them for a while. The point I was making was that if you could only sign one player and you had to choose between an attacking midfielder eg xavi and a defensive one eg busquets any person of sound mind would choose the attacking one due to the fact it is a lot harder to do xavis job than it is to do busquets. It's why historically they cost more. But that joker would choose busquets because he's stupid. Understand now? You are right xavi couldn't do busquets job because he physically isn't built for it and can't tackle. The same couldn't be said of Gerrard. Do you realise how hilarious you sound using words like cerebral and analytical. A DM job is to try and tackle the opposing player and give it to a team mate. It's not fucking rocket science you idiot. You don't have to be tactically aware of anything because you aren't fucking moving anywhere. If you said to Gerrard stand in front of the defence and tackle anyone but don't go forward just pass it to someone he would play that position better than Lucas because physically he's better than him and he's a better tackler. The fact is its a lot harder to beat a player than it is to tackle one. It's why Lucas is and always will be less important than Gerrard. It's why attacking players in general will always be more important than defensive players.

Nonsense Gerrard was out for half of the season what was Adams excuse then? His set pieces were terrible and there's no excuse for it, especially when he had so many opportunities and put so many bad corners and free kicks in. If you can't handle the pressure don't take them. I agree with the last bit of your post though. They are better than they've shown. Hopefully they will do the business next season.

I haven't noticed anyone doing anything of the sort. Jairzinho posted before about struggling to keep clean sheets and that we were regularly doing that before November. We kept something like 3 in 10 games before November in the league and only an extra 1 in November. Our goals conceded stayed pretty consistent throughout the season. Leivas loss wasn't even noticed. As I said before its the lack of finishing and final ball that was our problem not breaking up opposition attacks and stopping them from scoring.

I watch the game mate, every one. I don't think it is daft or lazy. That's exactly what he does. He came to the club and plenty of know it alls who had watched a load of YouTube clips were telling everyone and anyone he was the next Gerrard. He played and was fucking awful. These people continued to back him and he continued to be awful. Then Alonso left he got his big chance. Guess what happened, he was fucking awful and it impacted the team massively. But there was this strange thing going on where all these gobshites who had backed him from day one started just saying he was amazing. Game in game out he was man of the match for doing precisely fuck all. It was the strangest thing I have witnessed with regards to fan opinion on a player. All these divvies just started kidding themselves that he was playing well when he wasnt. Then this season started. As this season went on he got gradually better still putting the odd non-entity of a performance in here or there but he had turned himself into a competent defensive midfielder. Instead of giving stupid fouls away and dawdling on the ball he did that less so than before. The mongs went apeshit and suddenly he's our best player. The last few games he played before he got injured he played really well and was having a real impact on the game. He was however still only a defensive midfielder. It's the easiest position on the pitch to play requiring the least thought and ability. Since his injury his reputation is now that of Johan Cruyff. He hasn't been playing some new position where he gets forward more He was playing in the same one it's why he hardly scores and hardly gets any assists. I'd like to see Leiva judged at the same level Gerrard is because he doesn't come close. If any of our young midfielders had been given the pitch time leiva has been given over the years and been told to do what he does I have no doubt they could have easily turned into a player of his quality if not better.

Another myth in my opinion. Lucas never regularly plays the ball quickly to the forwards or the wide players in better positions never mind quicker than any of the other midfielders. Gerrard, Spearing, Adam, Henderson and Shelvey all do this whether successful or unsuccessful. Lucas doesn't even attempt it. Lucas plays the ball sideways and backwards a lot and he is apparently keeping it simple which the other midfielders could learn a lot from. Now that we didnt concede that many goals but had problems scoring and it's because Lucas wasn't there because he gets the ball to our attacking players a lot quicker. You can't have it both ways. We got the ball to our wide players and our forwards perfectly fine. We created lots of chances. It was our finishing and our final ball that let the side down. Lucas wasn't even missed.

Absolutely laughable. The sad thing is you probably actually believe that. A guy who basically stands in front of defence all game and doesnt even do that very well and offers nothing going forward is better than our best tackler, passer, crosser and finisher. You're having a laugh really. If Gerrard did what Lucas did every game there would be fucking uproar. I thought Lucas had the best games he played for us just up until he got injured but the love in for him is just beyond sense. The defence didn't too badly all season with or without Lucas in it. The biggest load of nonsense I've read since I last read a post by code. It's like youve tried to come up with every false cliche you could think of about Gerrard. For a start we haven't been trying to build a side for ages. We've been trying to add players to a decent foundation. The problem is players kept on leaving as well. Each season since Benitez left the best player at the club who is still the best midfielder in England has been picked there. If you were trying build a side here and you didn't want it built around Gerrard anyway never mind at least have him included you would be the most mental cunt of all time. I cannot stand these people who have issues with him playing its fucking embarrassing. He's quite clearly not incapable of playing in the middle. He's done it for most of his career. He made his name being the best box to box midfielder in world football. It's only divvys who think a centre mids role is to sit ten yards in front of the centre halves and not move all game that think he's incapable. You know what, he could do that with his eyes closed but then you would get knob heads saying he's not scoring who doing anything else so fuck him off. Hs also come out and said he's willing to play anywhere for the team, in the past he wants to play in the middle but now he's older he will do a job anywhere. He insists on taking all set pieces? Are you literally blind? How many times did you see Bellamy, Downing and Adam take this season over Gerrard? Carra I will accept is gone but it's hardly been a proviso that he must play. He played under Hodgson because he quite clearly didn't rate Agger and under Kenny he was dropped and a young centre half was signed on top of that.
