  1. The RAWK thread was obviously locked, but it's pretty clear he's just using the word as a synonym for 'idiot', but by all means get the pitchforks ready.
  2. Congratulations on their civil partnership!
  3. Very sad news. Played before my time but I've never heard anybody say a single bad word about him either as a player or a man, much respected and he'll be much missed.
  4. I'm only going on players who's careers I have either lived through or else I have seen a fair deal of footage of. Past ... 1. Peter Schmeichel [Denmark] I know, I know ... but in simple terms the greatest goalkeeper I've ever seen. A lot of people are going for Yashin but I don't think I've ever seen a single clip of him, never mind know what he was like as a player. He was worth ten points a season for the Mancs when he played (I know it's a cliché, but in his case it's also true) and the amount of times he almost single handedly won them games was unreal. Consistent and capable of making the most impossible saves. 2. Lothar Matthaus [West Germany] Could play in midfield or defence (ended his career as a sweeper at Bayern) and he'll be part of a three man defence in my team. From a long line of creative, dynamic, energic German midfielders, Matthaus was the best of the lot. He was also so composed as a sweeper, dictating much of the play and so intelligent too. 3. Paolo Maldini [italy] It was a toss up between him and Baresi and it could've gone either way. Ideally I would have both though. Brilliant player. To play at the very top for nearly 25 years, and for some of the greatest club sides in history too at Milan, shows his class. 4. Johann Cruyff [Netherlands] Cruyff's going to marshall the midfield in my team. 5. Zinedine Zidane [France] Possibly the closest we've seen to the perfect footballer since partner in central midfield, Diego Maradona. 6. Fernando Hierro [spain] Probably wouldn't be in if I could pick more than one player from each country, but was certainly a fine talent. Held the goalscoring record for the Spanish national team until Raul, and then subsequently David Villa, broke it. Not bad for a defender. 7. Kenny Dalglish [scotland] Legend. 8. Luis Figo [Portugal] Never really liked him since he defected to Real Madrid, but a classy footballer. I think Bobby Robson said he's the most gifted footballer he's ever worked with, which is quite a compliment. 9. Romario [brazil] People might argue that Ronaldo was a better player, or that there are worthier strikers than him to be in this team, but for me, he's always been one of my favourite players. 10. John Barnes [England] Genuinely the greatest player I've ever seen in the flesh. He didn't do it at international level but I don't care. The guy was just class, and he's a legend. So he's in. So there. 11. Diego Maradona [Argentina] Greatest player ever. Has to be in any team like this no matter what. They'll line up a little something like this, if I get the formatting right: -----------------Schmeichel------------------ ---------------------------------------------- ---Mathaus--------Hierro------------Maldini--- ---------------------------------------------- -------------------Cruyff--------------------- ---------------------------------------------- Figo-----Maradona----------Zidane------Barnes ----------------------------------------------- ---------Romario------------Dalglish----------- ---------------------------------------------- Subs: Jose Luis Chilavert [Paraguay] Gheorge Hagi [Romania] Robert Prosinecki [Croatia] Carlos Valderrama [Colombia] Hristo Stoichkov [bulgaria] George Weah [Liberia] Ian Rush [Wales] * As for the present day: ------------------Julio Cesar------------------ ---------------------------------------------- Lahm--------Vidic-----------Chiellini-------Cole ---------------------------------------------- Ronaldo-----Essien-----------Xavi--------Messi ---------------------------------------------- ------------Eto'o------------Drogba----------- Subs: Akinfeev, Forlan, Sanchez, Robben, Evra, Toure, Kyrgiakos (he'll kill me otherwise).
  5. Hernandez Berbatov Anelka Torres Timmy Cahill
  6. Pellegrini was my choice before Roy came in, so I went for him. Rijkaard could be interesting though, whilst somebody mentioned Deschamps and I think he's another who would be a good appointment.
  7. Nothing in this of course, it's obvious that it's mostly people putting isolated circumstances together and creating a story, but I'd love it personally.
  8. I've got a brother-in-law who looks exactly like Pako. He's always seemed a bit dodgy to me.
  9. Worst part about that is they're more interested in getting a good shot than they are in the bird fingering herself.
