There’s certainly opportunism at play here in the timing of these proposals, and a big slice of fuck you to the owners of City and Chelsea. Its a mixed bag of decent ideas and outright greed and may get through because of some desperation in the EFL and others who might go to the wall if something isn’t done soon. However, the consequences of it not going through will bring much nearer a break away by the bigger clubs to a European Super League, which has been threatened for some time now and has always been just under the surface. This is a tipping point that there’ll be no getting away from now the cat’s out of the bag.

If he’s tough, mentally, then he’s maybe worth a shot, even at 17. Wasn’t Donnaruma about that age when he debuted for Milan and the national team? The old adage “if you’re good enough, you’re old enough” should apply perhaps, specially as it’d put more pressure on the blue Shiite to beat us.

I hoped he would prove us all wrong and start becoming the player I thought we were buying, but earlier suspicion that he wasn’t up to the mark are yet to be disproved. Don’t know how long Klopp will persevere but I hope it’s not too long that it causes damage to our hopes of winning the thing again. Then again, he might click, can’t see it though.

The problem as I saw it yesterday was in the ineffectiveness of the press but also giving the ball away. Teams have set up against us with a view to holding on to the odd chance to break, and usually (I.e. Roma, City) it’s Trent they target because Robbo is the better defensively. Villa stuck Grealish out there and hit him every time they won, or were given back, the ball. As soon as that happened they had runners from midfield going into spaces and Grealish was able to find them, or take it on himself. This has happened before without teams taking advantage through either our defending, Alisson or their wastefulness. Yesterday Villa took pretty much every chance they could, deflections included, and we had no answer. It shouldn’t happen again for a very long time, but it’s down to the players to respond and quickly.

Pressure is all on the bloos now. Form team, best chance to beat us in decades in the league, we’ve had a mare against Villa, first choice goalkeeper will be missing. Watch the back tracking start about Thursday. By Saturday they’ll be nervous wrecks. So will I be until the game is over. -

They had 14 shots, 8 on target, 7 went in. We were still atrocious. -

Don’t know whether Grealish is a decent player or he’s looking good because we’re so shite. Probably the latter. I reckon they’ve had about 8 shots on goal and scored 6 times. -

Teams are finding players in space far more easily against us now than in the last two seasons and it’s leading to a goal almost every time. They are running players from deep into the space we leave behind the full backs particularly, which is dragging the centre backs out of position. Their third was a lucky deflection, but they’ve cut through us far too easily and caught our defenders having to defend running back towards our goal instead of defending in front of them. Firmino, Keita, Fabinho, Gomez and, yes, Van Dijk have been poor, I’ll leave Adrian to everyone else to comment on, but again, we aren’t taking the chances we’re making either, so it’s not just the defence or midfield. Write this one off I think, go again against the shite. -

Grealish taking the piss out of our midfield here, Gomez beaten far to easily as well. Now we’ll find out what we’re made of. Have to take our chances, it seems every other fucking team get a chance and it goes in, even with Alisson after the break last season, but we’re having to have three chances to score one goal. -

This ignoring of Salah being fouled by referees has got to ridiculous proportions now. He might well have hit the floor too easily the season before last, but it appears unless he’s actually assaulted with an AK-47, he’s never going to get a penalty. Fucking disgrace. -
They keep beating teams they should beat, with the manager and players they have. Fair enough. But there are arguably three teams better than them, possibly five, of which we are definitely one. As long as we show up against them, that’ll be enough for the run to continue.

That BBC article was, to me, quite eye opening. I’ve been a bit bamboozled with all the facts and figures bandied around, with the restrictions being lifted and then put back in place etc. etc., to the point where I was getting numbed by the thing. The one thing that did strike me from the article though was that, although this type of disease has been seen and handled very differently in the past, to the point where society just carries on and accepts the deaths as a consequence of any pandemic or annual disease (13000 deaths average annually from flu I believe?), this particular coronavirus is unknown and the effect it might have can only be guessed at, even by experts. For that reason alone, we should be very careful about letting it run its course unchecked in the hope it may not prove any worse than flu or similar diseases. It may well be that it might not adversely affect the majority of those who contract it, but as one who is in the higher risk age category (I’m having my flu jab at 9 am this morning) I’d personally not like to find out the hard way that it might.

Have City been given their usual bye yet?

He looks a thug. Just like Otamendi did. Hopefully, as he’s younger, he’ll be as shit but for longer.
