In a lot of ways I do agree with you but in fairness last summer they shelled out 32.5million on Benteke and 29million on Firmino. They do spend big money sometimes, just not wisely. We don't know if these are the guys Klopp wants regardless or he's been told you have x amount to spend and with a limited budget you're only going to buy potential or has beens. We were also prepared to spend big on Teixeira in January, whatever happened to him? (EDIT: He's scored 4 goals in 14 games, would have fitted right in here).

So assuming we sign all our top targets our first 11 next season would be something like Karius Clyne Matip Lovren Hector Milner/Zielinski Can Gotze Coutinho Firmino/Lallana Sturridge with Ings,Origi,Henderson,Chilwell,Mignolet,Henderson(?),Grujic,Gomez etc. as back up. I think if all those came off we'd have made improvements sure but the midfield still doesn't look strong enough for the premier league and who knows how Matip would settle in his first season as a CB in the premier league. Also I don't think Firmino / Lallana whilst decent will never be the standard we need to seriously challenge.

Bascombe and a couple of others saying Dahoud is an alternative target to Zielinski.

I'd agree. I just don't trust Firmino to deliver when it matters. I think he has the talent but just not the heart and application to push himself to be one of the best players in the league. To me, it feels like that's what seperates talented players like him from the world beaters like Ronaldo and Suarez who have both talent and dedication.

Does Klopp actually rate him? I can't remember him praising him that much and he has screamed at him a couple of times during games. Although except Chillwell we haven't really been linked with lb's have we?

It's funny the fine margins between utter failure and amazing glory. the 1st half of Istanbul was as bad as tonight but we turned it around. But When you have a shite squad like then and now you can't do that every time and eventually you'll get found out. tonight it felt like we had already used up that luck in previous rounds with this poor team.The only positive we can hopefully take from losing tonight is that Klopp might see how abject some of the gutless cowards in our squad are when the pressure is truly on.
