  1. Flair or creativity to break down the teams that park the bus.
  2. Gong Hei Fatt Choy to you as well, Woo!
  3. Forumites: To the Asians among you - I wish you a happy and prosperous year of the Ox. I come to you today to seek advise on all matters relating to the Hague. The wife recently got a transfer and we would be arriving in March. As you can imagine, this means a big change departing the humid shores of Southeast Asia. I am especially interested on advise relating to securing employment - both permanent or on contract, housing etc.
  4. My wife recently got transferred to the Hague. As you can imagine there is a great deal of excitement with the impending move. We expect to be there by March. Would appreciate any insights that my fellow forumites could provide on anything and everything.
  5. Am I understanding this thread correctly, forumites are essentially suggesting that Rafa should rotate? ...
  6. The woman and I recently decided to get a medium-sized, short coat dog. After much consideration, we narrowed it down between a beagle and a jack russell. I'd like to get some feedback from present beagle owners.
  7. Dave, the question is what has resources i.e. Rafa and his staff departing have anything to do with stability? So long as an enduring blueprint is laid as a foundation for youth development with systems and processes in place that should be sufficient. Let's take the example of City, if the person responsible for their academy were to depart would it set the club back? I'm not certain that the outcome would be different if the person leading the academy is the manager.
  8. I feel exactly the same way too, but perhaps for slightly different reasons. Many fans appear to think that another manager would be able to improve results given the ownership situation that hangs over the club. It would be a good wake up call.
  9. At the risk of sounding argumentative Brownie, how many goals is many? More than when he played wide right? More than he played up top? I don't doubt any qualitative assertions on Gerrard's quality - he is indeed good enough to play anywhere. But it would be helpful to see the actual figures for comparison.
  10. Brownie, what was Gerrard's contribution in terms of assists and goals when he played in central midfield during GH's reign? I think the reason why many are arguing about him playing on the right is because of the impact that he can have. There's no point in playing awesome as you describe it, if there is no outcome - creating an assist, scoring a goal or preventing someone else from scoring. To draw a bad analogy sort of like Arsenal - sure its nice on the eyes when they pass an opponent to death, but its futile if they don't win the game.
  11. Paul, I would agree with what you have said if you look at the quality of the squad at the new manager's disposal in isolation. But when you consider the surfeit of other negative issues, surely you can acknowledge the possibility of key players wanting to depart. The reason why I raised Gerrard specifically is because of his age which is supposedly when professionals are at their peak.
  12. There have been some good points raised on Barry's valuation. For some time now, the market for English players has been severely inflated regardless of whether we agree or disagree on the valuation. We have seen much evidence, more recently with the case of Bentley and it appears that this will continue. Despite how we feel about these prices, this changes nothing; after all, we're not talking about a stock price which may crash or even a car which depreciates in the longer term. Like it or not, these are the conditions in which the market operates and the club either accepts this, continues to purchase lesser quality players or buy foreign.
  13. There have been suggestions that an incentive for a strong managerial candidate is the quality of the squad/ spine that is available. We may be presumptuous in thinking that that they would be willing to stay. Players such as Gerrard may be unwilling to go through yet another period of rebuilding/ transition before winning trophies. Also, I disagree with the others who feel that the leadership/ ownership issue is one where an incumbent is willing to accept given the other positives. Those among us who have experienced working for 2 bosses would probably disagree. Several forumites have cited the example of Barcelona, but as I recall and correct me if I am wrong but there was minimal disagreement between Laporta and Rikjaard. The only valid example that bears comparison is Valencia and we can see the impact of poor leadership on the club.
