  1. I personally have long held the view that Gerrard is dispensible. This view is born from the fact that he has shown time and time again that his attitude to many many football related themes, as alluded by most on this thread, is not what we want from a liverpool player. Before I continue - I still think Rafa has this view and Momo and ALonso being his first picks supposrt this ( i expect disagreements here) I would note that he has of late began to say the right "captainly" things - but I feel this is something he feels he should do rather than than sometimes things he truely believes.. I dont mind players doing or saying stupid things* - however it is the persistent belief that unlike Carra he does not have a "liverpool or bust" that surronds gerrard that has lessend him in mine and appraently others eyes... * take Emlyn hughes - lfc legend and rightly so - but some of the crap ala Princess anne etc. would make you cringe - but he was a Pool man first and foremost - all foregiven. For Gerrard - is it not embarrasing to see someone like Kuyt come in and after half a dozen games have the kop eating out of his hand and a european winning captain, local lad, a winner of almost every major honour going for the club, club captain etc. etc. etc. would come at least third in a poll after Carra and Kuyt for the most popular player? I have to ask does this not make Gerrard think about his place at LFC's story, his legacy etc. No one should compare in the history books with his talent, local lad etc - potentially not even kenny. However this is far from the case. If if does make him think -does he care? I personally think Gerrard, the chip on his shoulder and Liverpool will end in tears. Liverpool will always be bigger than him and eventually time will come when he will leave. At this time it will be interesting does his ego take it well or will ther be bitterness a la Phil Neal (who for me will always be a LFC great). I predict tears. Back to Kuyt I read during the week that when kuyt was applaufding the crowd and basking in their applasue Gerrad called off the pitch... green eyes perhaps??
  2. I was there... great day, great craic and for a great sporting spectacle. Lehman made a very dignified speech too.
  3. I would give anything to play 5 mins for Liverpool. If crocuchys carrear at liverpool is to be from now on an impact sub or worse again - never to play for liverpool again having played 56 times scoring 16 goals and winning the FA cup and in the process breaking an international scoring record... how bad for him. the fact is he will never be a dalglish, rush etc.. Kuyt may be. His impact as a new player promises something special..
  4. As a 33 year old - I would say: BEst ever player - Gerrrard not fit to lace boots: Dalglish Better than gerard - midfielders: Souness, Whelan, Kennedy, McAllister players with the inspirational moments who I prefer :Dalglish, Barnes, Beardsley, Rush, Fowler, Keegan Possibly less talented, but having a debate as to whether thery are better for the team: McMahon, Top LFC ledgends: Dalglish Keegan Rush Folwer Barnes Cult hero: Bruce, Folwer, Didi What I would like to say is that in every catergory, ther is some i prefer as a player, man, cult hero. Gerrard is a great player but he still has flaws in his game and in some ways more importantly his personality. He is a long away from making my all time 1st eleven. However Istanbul means ghe will always be fondly remebered if not loved.
  5. I think Aldo is shockingly underated. The main difference between Rush and Aldo was pace. the pre Juventus Rush was like a greyhound and had an extra 'yard or two' over Aldo. However, when Rush resigned and had (memory not certain here) 1 or 2 Achilles injuries he lost some of that pace and had to adapt his game. this is the one time Kenny allowed his personal judgement to be clouded. He kept Rush when in honesty post injury he was never going to reach the absolute heady heights of the 1981 to 1986 rushie. today both would be kept and rotated!!! As for Owen - Aldo was a far finer goal scorer and overall footballer.. Now in a years time ask Kuyt or Owen??!!! If I can say Owen shades it, kuyt will have proven a good buy.
  6. I think your right Rafa would pick Tosh. I on the other hand would pick Rush, just as today I would pick Fowler over Crouch. Being not as old as you Nick!!, and not rembering Tosh, but having grown up with Rush, Aldo, Fowler and Owen have a football philosphy that subscribes to the need for a natural finisher who can rescue a situation with one chance. Over these four - I would rate them in this order Rush Fowler Aldo Owen with not much between Rush, Aldo and Fowler. Each were surperb at their pomp. Owen (and this is not bias from the madrid episode) was too streaky for me. As for Tosh - great player form what I have seen and heard from my Dad and would be hard for any manager to leave out.
  7. Green house.... for some strange reason Im in the mood for a hooley
  8. Im just puttting it out there. I have always like Riise. However i must say his "approval rating" is fairly high this week. I donth think always has been the case.
  9. The mention that we may be selling a "squad player" to help fund the purchase of Kuyt has prompted the thought - "Would you sell Riise to Chelsea to fund Kuyt and one other - rightback cover etc?" Just a question - I personally think Jan Kronkamp will go to fund Kuyt. I think I would sarcrifice Riise for Wayne Bridge and say 7 million. I would purchase Kuyt and perhaps Chimbonda.
  10. I think Belleamy will get one but it will be a low scoring game until late in the second half and we will run out 3-0
  11. You would marry Kelly... but enjoy Haley more. I must admit to thinking that over the past couple of months she has come into her own on Sky sports. Di looks like she is half asleep. No manc dad or not Haley every time.
