  1. Reading the snippet about how Adam fancies playing centre half makes me wonder if Kenny sees him as a sweeper in the way he did with Jan Molby. Not sure whether that would work in the modern game but it's an interesting thought all the same.
  2. I don't think they *actually* will but wouldn't rule out Bruce stumping up a fortune for one of their rejects at all and if Ngog is worth 7 million then why not?!
  3. I agree on the midfielder part but in my opinion Young is a much poorer player than either Valencia or Nani. If the rumours of Nani leaving and being replaced by Young are true then I think it's a big step backwards for them. In fact if it meant we went after someone else I'd be delighted all round with it. I think Jones has a lot of potential but as with any young centre half still makes the odd mistake. When I saw him play at the back end of the season he looked a couple of stone overweight as well although I'm sure they'll get him back into shape. I'd expect him to take Evans' spot in their squad which is an improvement like-for-like and I'd expect someone like Sunderland to buy him for a similar transfer fee to the one they're paying Blackburn so it won't have cost them a penny.
  4. This is a sign that we definitely are moving forward.
  5. We were watching a different player from 09/10 then. I remember being at Bolton about 4 games in and everyone was talking about his lack of effort and body language. He scored that day too but that was the beginning of the end that came 18 months later for me. Too many broken promises was the initial cause although obviously this wouldn't excuse the way he went about leaving in the end.
  6. Prior to reading this thread my cursor went over Nantwich Girl's rep and I thought it said 'has a massive tool' as opposed to 'is a massive tool' so you might be on to something there.
  7. At least there's finally been something good about clicking on this thread once an hour while I'm working. If she asked nicely she could definitely give me a tit wank.
  8. Spot on. Insua was by far our weakest defensive link in 09/10. A huge proportion of goals came about due to his failure to stop crosses. Also agree with the sentiment I would rather play Robinson.
  9. Rafa is very culpable in this but there really should have been someone there to say there is no fucking way we are paying Jovanovic 120k per week and let's also not forget that Cole was Purslow's signing and not anything to do with any manager of the club. Rafa Purslow Macia If any one of them had done their job properly when it came to signing players we would have a healthier playing squad now even with the cunts we had in charge.
  10. Or that he's playing a game of poker to get more money out of them. It will be interesting to see what happens but being honest I really don't want him.
  11. What a load of bollocks. I would definitely pay £10.37m for him. Anything over that and we would be getting ripped off.
  12. I almost see the parade as someone else's celebration in many ways for that reason. I was with hundreds of other reds pissed up in a bar in Istanbul with it on the big screen singing for the whole afternoon. My memories of the match are quite hazy and there are stark moments that stand out rather than the whole game. I'd never really entertained the idea that we'd lose beforehand especially after nearly bankrupting myself to get there. Before the match I had one or two beers but didn't want to get too bladdered as I wanted to remember it. My thoughts as I remember them are: - Feeling completely over-awed by the occasion as the match kicked off. I felt we as a support were quite quiet prior to their goal while the Milan end was loud. I think it was just the fact that we couldn't believe we were there. - Being stunned after the first goal but not being concerned. - Abusing the ref after the second after the clear handball right in front of me wasn't given for the pen. - Still believing at 2-0 but feeling distraught at 3-0 and jealous of my mates in another part of the stadium who were going home that night while I was staying for an extra two days. - Staring at the scoreboard at half time thinking there is no way we can pull this back. I remember lots of arguing around me and a bit of a nasty atmosphere prior to someone singing we're going to win 4-3 which sounded small-time but led into You'll Never Walk Alone. - Feeling more upbeat after it and saying to my mate that the singing of You'll Never Walk Alone would go down in history if we pulled off a miracle. - Not celebrating too much when Stevie scored but saying to the same mate that if we scored another one soon they'd shit themselves as they already thought it was won. - Thinking the ref hadn't given the penalty when Carra was screaming at him. - Being on line with the post for Dudek's save from Shevchenko and being amazed when it hadn't hit the net. - Knowing Riise would miss when the crowd chanted his name (players very often miss pens when the crowd are chanting their name beforehand and I hate it). - Saying Shevchenko will definitely score but only because I wanted to tempt fate. - Nearly strangling the lad next to me who I didn't know when he did miss. - Having a smacker planted on me by some ginger fella about 5 rows in front of me shortly after. - Having calves bluer than shite off the seats from the celebrating as they were moulded in and didn't flip up. - Running up a 20 pound phone bill by taking a call of my arl fella who was on holiday in Florida but wanted to hear the atmosphere. - Being drained after the adrenalin rush on the long, cramped up bus back to the city. - Drinking myself to a stupor in some bar with some older reds telling me it was the best game they'd ever seen. - Going to bed hearing the morning call for prayers being drowned out by a chorus of You'll Never Walk Alone. Best night of my life.
  13. Totally agree. I remember being on the 2 or 3 hour bus ride back to the city and everyone agreeing that we would never experience a better football match for the rest of our lives. That was the best week I'll ever have with doing things on a budget meaning that for cheap flights I took in Dublin, Brussels and Amsterdam as well as a 4 night stay in a £6 per night hostel in Istanbul. The first title we will win during my adult years will be a very special one but nothing will ever compare to that week.
  14. My mate is a season ticket holder there and reckons he has been poor. They've just signed a young keeper from Blackburn who they rate highly too and has been on loan there in the past so I doubt it.
  15. Don't really see how anyone can say that he's a bad signing. Experienced, good quality pro who is being signed on a free and will be good to have around the dressing room. The much younger keepers will learn lots from him and he may even be able to pass snippets on to Pepe. Gulacsi has a lot of potential but is still very raw and despite playing well in the main for Tranmere did make a number of errors as you would expect from a young keeper. If as someone has already said (Heaven forbid) Pepe was out for 3 months then throwing him in could do us and him a lot of damage if he's not ready. Send him out on loan for the season and see how he does playing every week first. As for Brad Jones, he's a nice guy but he really isn't good enough.
  16. I'll go for Stoke away first game followed by Chelsea at home and then Newcastle away. Nice tricky start as always. I'll also say United will have Wolves at home, Wigan away and then Reading at home.
  17. I hope United do sign Young. I've never seen him have a good game and honestly believe he is another of these players that the media have hyped beyond his ability due to him being English. He's a poorer player than any of Nani, Valencia or Park and I'd be delighted if he was playing ahead of any two of them.
  18. As a little added note to that as well I have not forgotten quite a number of their fans applauding us when we had to march before the game with them earlier in the season. Thought it showed a bit of class.
  19. To be honest I think he has been a breath of fresh air to the premier league. I don't really give a fuck about any soundbites but Blackpool have had an attitude this season of 'we're not very good but let's have a go and see if we get any points.' It beats the usual attitude of trying to grind out a 0-0 draw every week that many teams take and has made them entertaining to watch. The premier league would be a lot better in my opinion if one of Birmingham, Wolves or Blackburn goes instead of Blackpool and takes their shit football down to the Championship where it belongs.
  20. I don't know how it works now but surely they should just be randomly picked instead these days. By that I mean if there's 5 games in the north on a Saturday then 7 refs get put up in a random hotel the night before and are selected at random first thing in the morning. The FA could then give time to each of them to make it to the necessary ground. It would make it much more difficult for corruption to take place and also make it much more difficult for pressure to be placed on a particular referee in advance. Martin Atkinson might even get the odd United game again that way too.
  21. Too much trannyphobia on the other thread which although related is another debate altogether so I'm posting here. I reckon everyone should vote for Switzerland to thank them for all of their years of not fighting wars. That and to send me on holiday. I currently can't afford one but have £2 on them at 200/1.
  22. I know from stories from older generations that sectarianism was an issue in Liverpool in the past. To be honest I think the reason it died out is that for the vast majority religion is no longer really central to their lives and as a result isn't a defining factor as to whether people get along or not. As for the IRA question, I am a Scouser that spent some time living in Dublin a few years back and found that several people I worked with who had strong Republican views were very welcoming to me and would crack jokes about Liverpool being the unofficial capital of Ireland. I was also with the same people at times when they were openly hostile to people from elsewhere in the UK and would speak Gaelic to them to make them feel uncomfortable even in work situations. I did also on very rare occasions experience hostility from strangers myself for being seen as English but it was few and far between. Ultimately, I think Liverpool was left alone due to the historic links with Ireland.
  23. Last XI Itandje Degen Tanner Piechnik Dicks Nunez Poulsen Kozma Leonhardsen Dundee Voronin Bottom half championship side right there!
  24. Haha it wasn't a very well thought out idea. Was thinking more of the words than the association but deserved the subsequent negging.
  25. How about this one as well? Probably worth pointing out I'm both unpatriotic and a republican and also prefer the Flower of Scotland tune when suggesting this but think the victorious, happy and glorious parts our very appropriate God save our gracious King Long live our noble King God save our King Send him victorious, happy and glorious Long to reign over us God save our King clap-clap, clap-clap-clap, clap-clap-clap-clap Dalglish
