  1. they had their debt loaded on them. we are accepting mediocrity what?
  2. Its a pity they are only one behind I suppose, but i still think he will seriously consider it. Realistically we need chelsea to strenghten futher and stop them and those are the cold hard facts of the matter
  3. We are a circus and look to remain that way, they are run as a club should be in the modern game, its looking very dodgy now, especially as the premier league is becoming the dominant european league. I'd love it if we no longer accepted medocrity on every level. This season was a shambles.
  4. Ginsoak may will pack it in now, he'll find it hard to top this and will want to bow out on a high. If he goes they'll struggle and we're in the pack jostling for position. Please God let it happen.
  5. Fairclough Rush hitting the camera are the two standout I would say. Kenny chipping home at Wembly, Tommy Smiths header and Kenny's winner at Stamford Bridge are other worth a mention.
  6. Modric and Nasri in North London is depressing. I hope we have something decent lined up and all the shite we are being linked with is a smokescreen.
  7. Not the point. I'm saying a winger, preferably one who'll muck in if needed, would suit our system. We wouldn't have to change it. Would anyone dispute that Ronaldo could do a job for us in Kuyt's current positino?
  8. Quaresma would be infinitely superior to either of the players we have in the wing/inside forward positions. Only a hard working version of him, say Ribery, would be better.
  9. exactly set the bar low and anything else will be a bonus. Incidentally this will be the fourth right back Rafa has signed.
  10. fuck sake Piggy, that neg has sent me into the red zone. moschops, rep me there like a good lad
  11. Is the oppostion here to Ben Arfa the player or the fact that Rashid has recommended him? Play the ball lads. As I've said, i've seen a bit of him and he looks like just the type of player we are missing, he can actually control and run with the ball which is something neither of our first choice widemen can do. Ferguson if I remember singled him out as one of Lyons two best players before their tie with them. I see it this way, if Ronaldo played with us, we'd be champions this year. This lad is the type of player we should be trying to unearth and give us that something extra as he has it in him to make that kind of step up. If he is available at 11 million we should be in for him.
  12. I've seen him only 4 or 5 times but yes, looks like top quality and for that price(less than Babel), it would be a steal.
  13. we've been crying out for even one winger/wideman of quality since stevie went back in the middle, last year was the year to rectify that. we bought another central midfielder, a raw forward, and an average right sided midfielder and ended up with Kuyt playing inside right If ben arfa or silva or someone of that quality is available just get one player and it'll make a huge difference. Ribery would have made that difference last year.
  14. The main point was that we have spent as much as them. The other point is that they have created a new team, bar a few players with that money. Is anyone here now denying that they have totally outspent us?
  15. manc wage bill in 2007 was 85 million ours 69 million nowhere near 50%, less than 25 actually http://www.worldsoccer.com/news/Premiership_wage_bill_tops_1billion_news_122223.html
  16. Premise of the original statement maybe? Why is everyone looking to nit pick to find a way out so that we can claim to be skint and that the manager isn't/wasn't backed? With modern day undisclosed fees a lot of this cannot be categorically proven, but its fair to say we have matched united's spending since they dismantled/rebuilt their title winning team of 2003. People here were saying that clearly wasn't the case. That list says otherwise
  17. Anyone want to move the goalposts now that its been shown that we spent about the same, probably a bit more, but just bought reams of squad filler crap.
  18. Right let this be the definitive TLW opus on this subject. I go into this completely open minded, if I've fucked up then we can change the figures. This is the transfer history since United won the title. We've already established that both squads have been completely overhauled and the first elevens for both are different bar 2 players. Obviously GHs last season is included here, but lets not forget that we were also building on a team that won a champions league. Anyhow Errors and ommissions excepted here is what I have Season 03-04 UNITED: Spent: 1/7/03 David Bellion 2,000 3/7/03 Eric Djemba-Djemba 3,500 15/7/03 Tim Howard 2,300 12/8/03 Kleberson 5,930 12/8/03 Cristiano Ronaldo 12,240 12/1/04 Dong Fangzhou 500 23/1/04 Louis Saha 12,820 Total spent: 39,290 Received: 2/7/03 David Beckham 25,000 6/8/03 Juan Veron 15,000 Total Received: 40,000 United net RECEIVED: +700 LIVERPOOL: Spent: 1/7/03 Stephen Finnan 3,500 9/7/03 Harry Kewell 5,000 Total spent: 8,500 Received: none Total Received: 0 Liverpool net spent: -8,500 Season 04-05 UNITED: Spent: 27/5/04 Alan Smith 7,000 11/6/04 Gabriel Heinze 6,900 31/8/04 Wayne Rooney 27,000 Total spent: 40,900 Received: 26/5/04 Danny Pugh 1,000 29/7/04 Nicky Butt 2,500 20/8/04 Diego Forlan 2,000 31/1/05 Eric Djemba-Djemba 1,350 Total Received: 6,850 United net spent: -34,050 LIVERPOOL: Spent: 1/7/04 Djibril Cisse 14,000 27/7/04 Josemi 2,000 1/8/04 Javier Luis Garcia 6,000 1/8/04 Xabi Alonso 10,500 13/1/05 Fernando Morientes 6,300 21/1/05 Scott Carson 750 Total spent: -39,550 Received: 20/5/04 Emile Heskey 6,250 10/8/04 Danny Murphy 2,500 13/8/04 Michael Owen 8,000 Total Received: 16,750 Season 05-06 UNITED: Spent: 1/6/05 Edwin van der Sar 2,000 5/7/05 Ji-Sung Park 4,000 19/7/05 Ben Foster 1,000 4/1/06 Nemanja Vidic 7,000 10/1/06 Patrice Evra 5,500 Total spent: 19,500 Received: 4/8/05 Philip Neville 3,500 8/8/05 Kleberson 2,500 Total Received: 6,000 United net spent: -13,500 LIVERPOOL: Spent: 4/7/05 Jose Reina 6,000 4/7/05 Mark Gonzalez 4,500 13/7/05 Mohamed Sissoko 5,600 20/7/05 Peter Crouch 7,000 12/1/06 Daniel Agger 5,800 Total spent: -28,900 Received: 16/6/05 El-Hadji Diouf 4,000 23/8/05 Milan Baros 6,500 Total Received: 10,500 Liverpool net spent: -18400 Season 06-07 UNITED: Spent: 31/7/06 Michael Carrick 18,600 Total spent: 18,600 Received: 3/6/06 Jon Obi Mikel 12,000 15/6/06 Jonathan Spector 500 14/7/06 Sylvain Ebanks-Blake 200 28/7/06 Ruud van Nistelrooy 10,300 4/1/07 David Jones 1,000 14/2/07 Tim Howard 3,000 Total Received:27,000 United net RECEIVED: +8,400 LIVERPOOL: Spent: 22/6/06 Craig Bellamy 6,000 1/7/06 Gabriel Paletta 2,000 26/7/06 Jermaine Pennant 6,700 18/8/06 Dirk Kuyt 9,000 31/1/07 Alvaro Arbeloa 2,600 31/1/07 Javier Mascherano 150(loan) Total spent: -26,450 Received: 25/5/06 Fernando Morientes 3,000 12/7/06 Dietmar Hamann 400 4/8/06 Antonio Barragan 680 8/8/06 Djimi Traore 2,000 30/8/06 Neil Mellor 500 18/1/07 Darren Potter 250 22/1/07 Stephen Warnock 1,500 ? 19. Do you want to make out a list of our duds in the last 5 years?
  20. round and round we go. we've spent about the same as them no matter how many times people list out their signings
  21. There were far worse Yankee wars going on when we were having our best run of form. (Mar-May) Its just another excuse.
