  1. He has a point though. If you're rich enough the media and politicains will fawn over you and forget how you acquired your wealth.
  2. As with all former Liverpool managers (bar Hodgson) I wish him well. No personal abuse, just think he'd run out of ideas and needed to start afresh somewhere else. I don't know if he is a good manager or not- will be interesting to see how his career develops elsewhere. Thanks for your efforts Brendan.
  3. I'm going back to Skyrim. Can't be arsed to get upset about this team and this manager any more. When's the new Fallout out? Sometime this year isn't it?
  4. Should have gone in the summer. Two dour games settled by a wonder strike from our last remaining quality player and a referee that doesn't know the offside rule don't make up for the other failings- all documented many times, no plan, no pattern of play, players out out of position, better players overlooked for his pets, playing one up top, no solid defensive midfielder, the verbal diarrhoea etc. I don't want to call him names- he's always stuck up for the club- but he's not good enough so shouldn't be here. And I'm fed up hearing about lots of new signings and giving them time to gel- there were only lots of new signings because the lot he bought last time were so bad or he got so little out of them! It was the same story last year. I think a better manager would get more out of the current squad, mediocre as they are.
  5. Well played red men. Probably fair result overall. Clyne and Gomez very good, particularly Clyne- nice when your'e not worried in a one on one situation. Coutinho the little genius though- joy to watch.
  6. Lovren and Skrtel trying to score own goals here. Take a point now.
  7. You mean with one of those big cross hair things?
  8. Lovren - fookin hell! Commentator - "They seem to have targeted Lovren" I wonder why.
  9. "Medel is said to have caught Rodgers’ attention as he played a key role in helping Chile to Copa America glory, with Liverpool having been impressed with his combative performances. Despite featuring 42 times last season at the San Siro, Medel’s future is currently unclear following their impressive, big-money capture of Geoffrey Kondogbia from Monaco." Why didn't we just buy Kondogbia instead of buying the man he's displacing? Just spend all the dosh on the best possible forward we can get. Stop frittering it away on premier league mediocrity and punts on youngsters that may or may not turn out good (in which case they will be off anyway). Make a statement signing!
  10. I actually think this is the hardest one. Suarez clearly because he's a genius. Perm any 2 from the remaining 3. Owen did it for a long time, was recognized throughout Europe, and almost carried us as the striking threat for years (he had to, playing with Ivanhoe). Torres for 2 or 3 years was fantastic, but I'd argue Owen was equally lethal for a longer period. God is just God, and before his injury was capable of scoring all sorts, and producing moments of genius. And he didn't get tempted by other harlots. So Suarez, Owen, Fowler for me.
  11. I think at the time we thought we were competing so losing a good player would actually matter. Now that the owners/manager/many of the fans have officially waved the white flag and 5th-7th with the occasional tilt at getting top 4 is par, what's the point of stressing about losing players? Really, we lose Sterling, so what? We'll sign 3 or 4 more hopefuls, one may become good, he'll be sold off, and we go again. Given our current status, its probably better to have players that want to play for us and will put in a shift, and at least we can see a team that tries, rather than worrying about signing and keeping top class players.
  12. Unai Emery? Thought they were being optimistic but apparently he is interested. They have a nice shiny new stadium coming soon as well. May not be so easy to get 5th - 7th in a couple of years time at our current rate of mediocratization.
  13. He won't be sacked if we're toddling along in the top half - there will still be people saying a season is 38 games, just wait till Sturridge is back, you have to give the new signings time to settle in etc. He may get the boot if we're bottom half, there are boos at the ground, attendances start to drop, and the press get after him. I don't want to see that happen to a Liverpool manager, but boy do LFC make it hard sometimes.
  14. £24.7M move Martinez to Arsenal being touted. We are linked to Benteke for £32.5M. All rumours and hearsay, I know, but its all we have to go on. Even being linked with someone half decent gives hope, and that's pretty much all we have to go on at the moment.
  15. Where is the optimism about us not being in decline coming from? It seems clear in the current climate that players will go to where the mega wages are and where they have a chance of winning things, neither of which really applies to us. We don't have the lure of London (which is a factor for some players). We don't have a massive ground to give us parity with the mancs or Arsenal. We don't have a renowned manager that players might come and play for. We don't have a smooth efficient management and transfer structure. What we do have is the name, but that means increasingly less and less to anyone born after 1990. We still have a massive worldwide fanbase, but without success on the field or an iconic player that is likely to fade. Whether you like it or not that worlwide fanbase is crucial from the economic perspective. LFCTV keeps rerunning repeats of Istanbul and highlights of Gerrard. Beginning to resemble the History channel. So seriously, where is the optimism coming from? I need something to cheer me up.
  16. On a slightly more cheery note Fellaini just sent off.
  17. Someone posted earlier Gerrard should just take a red and twat Adams. Trouble is, he also needs to twat Shawcross, Walters, and about 6 more of the Stoke team. No-one else is going to do it- bunch of pussies. And while he's at it, maybe he can do a two footed lunge at Rodger's bollocks on his way off.
  18. Hahaha looks like Can is trying to get Rodgers the sack here.
  19. Fuck him. I don't care if he's only 20. It does show the distorting effect of the TV money on the Premier league clubs. Realistically, only Madrid, Barcelona of PSG from abroad would pay that sort of money. £60M to city, £12M of that to QPR, buy 1 excellent or 2 very good players from abroad.
  20. He's right. There is a lack of ambition, from the board down through the administration, manager and team, right down to the fans. Board and administration happy to "compete" and live on history and established fan base- but todays players don't care about the history, they care about money and to a lesser extent their chances of winning things or being in the Champions league. Players happy to pick up their pay cheques and do a job. Now with Gerrard gone, where are the senior players to tell them what LFC is about, what standards are expected? I read the Maldini interview with Carra and he was saying the same about Milan- senior players who know the values and tradition of the club not around. I know KK, Rushie and a few others are around, but with the exception of KK they seem pretty quiet. Compare to Bayern where the legends seem to be actively involved. Our fans seem to have given up and accepted the slide into mediocrity. It's par, we can't compete- bollox. Think of ways to compete. A massive stadium for a start. Reduce ticket prices / let kids in for free when demand isn't there for poorer opposition, full price when demand allows. Buy a superstar and pay him what it takes. It will attract other players to come if they think we are serious. The mancs made a statement of intent last summer, even if the signings didn't all work out, but it showed they were serious. Having an icon will boost shirt sales / increase visibility on the global stage. Have a very good first 11, pay them what it takes and use the kids to plug the gaps. Stop thinking small time, stop living in the past, otherwise the club will wither and fade, the national and international fanbase will become apathetic and drift off to other interests, and all that will be left will be a shrinking local fan base. Great, some will say, get rid of the OOTs, but the club will just become irrelevant on the bigger stage. Forgot the manager- but I think that's been done to death.
  21. Beg to differ. Ged's teams were strong defensively. In fact we relied on Owen's speed on the counter. I remember Ferguson complaining about how we had too many 6 footers in the team and were too physical- those were the days. Benitez's teams were also pretty good defensively. I know those teams had off days, but at least you could see what they were trying to do. Anyway, opinions.
  22. I'm not going to call him a fraud or other names- he is a Liverpool manager, and all Liverpool managers deserve a degree of respect (except Hodgson). I think he probably is a good youth coach. However, he talks too much. His teeth are too white. He can't set up a team to defend. He may not have been responsible for all the transfers, but has to take some responsibility. I don't think he's getting the best out of the group that does have. There is no discernible pattern of play. The players are not technically good enough to play pretty passes, keep possession and probe away like Barcelona (or even Arsenal). If we want to play on the break, only Sterling has real pace, and we aren't strong enough defensively to soak up pressure. When we do get width from the fullbacks, there is no one in the middle for them to cross to. Even when there is, it looks like they have been told not to cross the ball. We were bailed out last year by flashes of genius and getting the first goal more often than not. I just don't see what he is trying to do this season. We have a team of midget pussies with no balls. We get outmuscled and outjumped by everybody. I don't see much hope for next season, as I think we shot our load with the Suarez cash this season. However, as a fan I reserve the right to have blind hope despite all evidence to the contrary. If we can lure a top class goalscorer and a bit of muscle in midfield, maybe things will be better, even with Brendan. I'd feel a bit more positive with a new man in charge. If Klopp / Rafa are available, the owners should at least be talking to them. Ancelotti is probably out of our league at the moment.
  23. Cunt of a ref. Outside the box. First goal offside. But I can't be arsed to get too upset about it because frankly, we're shit.
