  1. Yet another stream request. I'm in Thailand, and they don't have it on TV here, for some reason....
  2. "... and so, too, the loan deals including Alberto Aquilani" We had to pay money to lose his services? What a fine piece of business this is turning out to be.
  3. Mildly interesting. Today's standings. 1 AC Milan 13 29 6 Inter Milan 13 20 1 Chelsea 14 28 9 Liverpool 14 19
  4. Oh, and I forgot to add: "When they wanted me for the job, I made it clear to Kenny that he would be with me - not like with Benitez, when he was here in name but not allowed to step foot in Melwood and it was 'we don't want anything to do with you,''
  5. But there are other versions of this out there. For example: " I was disappointed - and I've told him this - that he applied for the job in the summer because I don't think that was ever really going to happen for him." Why not? Because a hugely-respected manager was also in the running? On this version, I'd take 'patronised' over 'admonished''.
  6. and it's 'implies that', not 'infers that'.
  7. Some of these puns are awful, to be franc.
  8. The 'Roy Hodgson timeline' on the offal surprised me a bit. It starts off as the expected hagiography, but then segues into the following (edited, but only lightly): July 1998 Signs Kevin Davies for a reported fee of £7.5 million - the striker would prove to be a flop at Ewood Park. Dec 1998 Sacked as manager of Blackburn Rovers with the club rooted to the foot of the Premier League table. June 2001 Returns to Italy to take the helm at Udinese. Dec 2001 Dismissed as manager after less than six months in the job. April 2002 Named as coach of the United Arab Emirates. January 2004 Sacked following a disappointing Gulf Cup campaign. August 2005 Agrees a deal to take charge of the Finnish national team. Nov 2007 Refuses the chance to remain as Finland coach after failing to qualify for Euro 2008. Not exactly glowing, considering it's the club's offical site. I'm not saying this as criticism of the man himself (I'm interested to see what next season brings) - just a comment on the official website itself. Are there dissenters within?
  9. I'm surprised that no one else here has pointed this out: It's his principal role he's talking about. As far as I can tell, he wouldn't know a principle from a hole in the ground. sawad deekap
  10. Greetings from Thailand. Dunno if a bit of data-driven stuff will work here... Szymanski and Kuypers (in 'Winners and Losers: The Business Strategy of Football') use regression analysis on a big data-set to test the relationship between spending on players and league position. They conclude that there is a strong correlation (R = .92). Nothing that you couldn't have guessed, but it's always nice to see it quantified (and no, this particular statistic was not 'made up on the spot'. In defiance of the normal statistical rule). Incidentally, Thailand is totally obsessed with English football in general, and Liverpool in particular. The day after Istanbul, the best-known TV presenter read the national morning news dressed in a Liverpool shirt, just to give you an idea. Can't imagine that on the Beeb...
