  1. I think one of the attractions with Bellamy is that if you look at our bench when all our top players are playing, there isn't really a "game changer" on there. While we have a very strong squad especially with Coates coming in, we lack someone to bring on that can change a game.
  2. Would he be entitled to a British passport given that he has Scottish grandparents? Regardless I'd imagine that the work permit permit process would be a lot quicker.
  3. There is no way on earth that he wouldn't get a permit under the exceptional talent rule. He's the young player at the tournament at the the second most important FIFA competition along with the Euro's. Added to the fact that Uruguay are so high in the FIFA rankings even the neanderthals that seem to make up these committees couldn't possibly turn him down. I also think the fact that it's Kenny and a British manager applying for it I think will stand in our favour.
  4. My thoughts exactly Ian, all this physical approach and media storms off the pitch are designed to reduce their battles with Barca to poisonous, patchy football which suits his style perfectly. Really hope they win nothing this year and the Madrid public will soon get tired of him dragging their club through the gutter.
  5. It makes sense to go for Cahill and use Ngog to offset some of the cost, you can see why we've concentrated on what I saw as the two priority positions to be addressed after LW so late in the window, our targets are either in a relegated side or have one year left on their contracts ensuring a more reasonable price later in the window.
  6. If we are interested and the fee is not even close to £13m as suggested by George Caulkin on twitter it might work in our favour as rather than entering into an auction or Ipswich trying to get a Henderson type fee out of the big club we might get him for a decent price up from 5-7m and addons
  7. The major difference in Ngog and Konchesky, Poulsen, Jovanovic and Cole will be no one else will be prepared to pay them the champions league level wages we are. If they were on the same wages as Ngog I'm sure we'd have plenty of takers for them but unfortunately they're not.
  8. Jaysus imagine finding anyone stupid enough to pay money for Konchesky (Thanks Roy). I still think the best we can hope for is that we release them on a free that will allow the buying club to supplement his wages with what they would of paid in a transfer fee.
  9. I think the thing about Downing is if it was a reasonable fee he'd add balance to our attack that we would have the option of getting it wide to Downing to cross it for Carroll which would create the space for others like Suarez. It's a real problem with us when teams sit back against us at Anfield and we try to play it through them. But I agree it's not worth paying a huge amount for him as he is somewhat limited.
  10. He said at his unveiling he'd be doing all he can to keep hold of him, it's really difficult to see us getting Downing unless it's for an exorbitant fee. While he wouldn't be an exciting signing, i think it's fair to say he'd get the best out off Carroll.
  11. I wonder will they loan one of Smalling or Jones out as one of them is going to be fourth choice and I know with Ferdinands injuries that still means a lot of game time. The thing is if there is £16m to spend on a CB there are a lot of possibilities out there, one of the Dortmund pair would be brillant.
  12. It's a player they have made an enquiry about, praying it's mata and not bojan
  13. I think Wickham moved to Ipswich when his family moved there having being at a London club prior to that. I think there was something about his old coaches now being at Tottenham so I think the some journalists were assuming he'd go there instead.
  14. Of course experience is important but there are also plus points for having young, hungry players as Dortmund proved this year. It's not like we don't have leaders in our team. There's a difference between having the likes of Gallas as your senior players and the likes of Pepe, Stevie and Carra.
  15. Didn't Lyon pay huge money for him as in €15-€20m, so I can't see us going for him
  16. He's on loan at Racing Club Genk and has made 2 appearances according to Wikipedia, can't really see him making it here where you consider the latest bunch coming through.
  17. Lampard and Essien and Ramierez do make a very good midfield trio but there's a lack of guile. They need to rebuild and if they are to build their new team around Torres they need a couple of midfielder of a different type. Someone like Alonso who can hit Torres early and maybe someone like Modric who has a bit of inventiveness about them. They also lack pace in their team overall. I think they need to do the following: 1. Keep Ancelloti as they need stability. 2. Buy Charlie Adam and James McCarthy. 3. Buy Ashley Young for one of the wide areas.
  18. Where's that link to Hummels from? it's too good to be true if I'm honest as he'd be perfect.
  19. He's done exceptionally well for an 18 year old making his debut. Arsenal will be a big test for him as it'll be a totally different game. The likelihood is they'll have a lot more of the ball and it'll be a much sterner test of his defensive abilities where we're sitting back a bit more and he'll have to watch clever runners getting in behind him etc. I'd guess he has shown himself that he is more than capable of playing in our first team but if he comes through the game on Sunday he'll show that he's capable of pushing for a first team place and at 18 that'd be fantastic for him and us.
  20. Tough debut for him against Johnson, shows how highly rated he is and I really hope he passes the test.
  21. It's going to be an interview with Reina so I assume we'll have a fair idea of his intentions come the summer after it. If he wants to go fair enough, we'll get a big fee and if someone doesn't want to stay then we're better off without him. Really couldn't face the prospect of him joining another english club though.
  22. You just get the feeling he tries to hard to be their Carra, When Carra went to the away games when he was injured with his broken leg you got the feeling he just wanted to go as a fan. With Ratboy you get the feeling he went because he knew it'd be picked up by the cameras. Probably something to do with him being from Bury!!
  23. Interesting that the £50m release clause kicks in at the end of the season. There's no way we'll be able to get a suitable replacement in 3days so tough luck Fernando you're not leaving until the summer. I'm really shocked that he wants to leave us in the shit like this, the modern day footballer I guess.
  24. I think Suarez is the key, if we do sign him it'll show FSG are serious about trying to get us back to the top. If we don't it'll show them up as spoofers. They've been banging on about how they know they'll have to invest relatively big sums to get us back to the top and here's the first chance for action and they will have bought no-one of note just sold one of our first team squad instead. The worst thing about this is you know it'll drag on from now until the summer and every week the papers will be full of Torres being unsettled and whatever bit of positivity about Dalglish coming back will be gone. Even if Torres is adamant about going I think we should just tell him not until the summer and even then he can only move abroad. Still has plenty of time on his contract and although I've no doubt he has been lied to in the past and the new owners might be just as culpable we need to do what's best for Liverpool and not Torres. FSG's Honeymoon period will be well and truly over if it emerges Torres wants to leave because of lack of ambition which he undoubtedly explain it as and Suarez doesn't arrive.
