Carrick or busquets would struggle being asked to do the job currently being asked of our centre midfield. That's why having someone to provide a bit of efficiently ussd energy and strength is needed.

Can't fault the effort but the quality still isn't there. Central midfield needs an overhaul. Full backs need an overhaul too. God knows what's happened to defending and attacking as a unit also. Our set up and tactics has led to players being really isolated with and without the ball far too much in every game this season.

Seems to be a great shot stopper but but needs to improve his decision making and be a bit more commanding when coming off his line. Promising start.

Muniain would be my first choice now. In fact he would have been close to my first choice transfer target for the last couple of years. Class player. Needs to add goals to his game but it'll happen I reckon.

Badly handled from start to finish. Even a move abroad now would mean we would be rushing round trying to buy, and probably needing to over pay, for replacements. Why we didn't do something that would leave us looking less reactive and more planned is beyond me.

That'd be my concern. I always think of the likes of Morientes. Good player but couldn't get used to the game over here at the stage of his career he joined us. I'd be wary of paying £25m for him this summer but at the same time couldn't give you many realistic alternatives. I couldn't even name one player I'd like to see come in as a suarez replacement who would be a viable buy!

He can't play there. Too hesitant in possession sees him losing the ball a load of times facing his own net. Add to that he can't tackle, has the build of a 13 year old and is slow as fuck then I can't see why anyone thinks he's capable of protecting the back four.

Who else can play that role of protecting the back four? Gerrard at a push although he's never been great positionally and it's been a few years since I've seen him snapping into any tackles.

Toure as first choice centre back and Lucas, with all the doubts surrounding him since his comeback, as the only player suited to hold the middle together isn't what I was expected from this summer. It's worrying to be honest that the manager doesn't see those positions as as much of a priority as another attacking midfielder considering how many times sides exploited our weakness through the middle last year. Having thought we were buying to a plan at the beginning of summer we now seem to be in a position of buing just one player, yet to come in as well, who should be an automatic outfield starting line up choice. As poorly executed a transfer plan as recent seasons.

Be a better game with 12 on the small pitch than 14 on the big one I reckon

It's still a bit pointless given we've got Kelly and Wisdom. He needs to be better than both to be a worthwhile signing.

I may have missed them but Wanyama apart, we don't seem to have been linked with many players to provide strength in midfield. Personally I'd make it second priority behind centre back but I've got a bad feeling Rodgers doesn't see our current midfield as being too lightweight.
