Red of the Day - Tom Fairfoul

by Chris Wood

Half-back Thomas was a regular in theLiverpool side in the two years that preceded the First World War.

He played in every one of the 38 First Division matches in1913-14 and made a further 24 appearances the following season. NineF.A. cup ties over the same period (including the 1914 final defeat byBurnley at Crystal Palace) brought his career total for Liverpool to 71games.

His career at Anfield ended in shame, as along with three otherLiverpool players (Miller, Pursell, Sheldon) and three ManchesterUnited players, he was found guilty of fixing a game between Liverpooland United on Good Friday 1915.

Great name for a footballer.

Puts me in mind of my mate's dad who hasn't agreed with a single free-kick given against us since he got his season ticket in the 60's and has used the phrase ' fair fou l' on a few occasions,
