  1. The swirling wind was a factor. Neither side could compete with full confidence for any headers and most bouncing balls. Andre Marriner was another - allowed loads of time wasting by Foster and various throw-in takers.
  2. Beat me to it!! Anyone want to bet against Suarez doing some larceny against Napoli?
  3. Yeah - the BBC are on it................ https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50755948
  4. You're right, Dave, Everton just out-mithered Chelsea - and Chelsea had little answer to it. All 3 goals were like David Luiz hadn't left the club. And it was great to see the passion of Big Dunc - he'd have his heart on his sleeve if it weren't for the sweatbands. If he keeps the job for much longer, the Goodison Ball Boys will be wanting danger money as some of Dunc's hugs were rib crackers.
  5. Good fair report, Dave - repped for "Liverpool tribute band"
  6. Scholes & Ljungberg - soooo funny!! Not too surprised about the Barca dressing room, though. They don't seem to communicate much on the pitch. Near the end of the game at Anfield (when it was 4-0) Divock went down injured and eventually went off after treatment - but in all that time there was no one shouting the odds or geeing people up or even arm waving as one goal by Barca would still see them through. I think Messi went walkabout around halfway line.
  7. Watching the Arse v B&HA tonight - Shearer is commentating - perhaps I was harsh on McMoist.
  8. Watched the game via the new network provider in the presence of Ali McMoist (who was v poor btw). I thought that we looked great going forward but didn't close down/get to the ball enough when we were defending - very passive at times. TAA was especially poor after he got (rightly) booked. Both goals originated down his side even though Richarlison was never touched for the free kick he "earned" that led to the corner that led to the first goal. Not having someone (Fab or Hendo) snapping in to the tackle in front of the back four leaves them exposed at times. A better side would have caused more problems (and Everton caused too many in reality). Having said all that, if LFC has scored 7 it would not have been flattering. Shaq was especially sharp for someone who hadn't played for a while and Divock was a willing runner all night and Sadio was just magnificent. PS The referee expert on Prime (Dermot G) reckoned that VVD's challenge was not a penalty.
  9. "He started with a win, but they were only playing West Ham and everyone is beating them at the moment so it doesn’t really mean much. They looked quite good for 80 minutes though." The way the Press went on you'd have thought it was the second coming. It was a win for Spurs against a underachieving West Ham side with Tuddy Cicero in goal. Even then Spurs almost "did a Spurs" and let them back in - but by then the press had all written their reports and closed up their laptops.
  10. Worked out fine last night - Salah didn't even get off the bench. He'll probably have a great game at Bournemouth.
  11. You only have to (re)watch the Agent Provocateur advert to know that!!
  12. Just watched MOTD again and the commentator did say since mid-September
  13. It's bound to exist somewhere - there are just too many Manc parallel universes for it not to.
  14. You have to bear in mind that Sterling is the Football Writers Player of the Year - and so the media are always going to spin it in such a way that doesn't put their judgement in a bad light.
  15. After a re-read I agree with most of this. The first line was such a killer - just like a Bobby flick on the edge of the box - so good you have to look at it again & again to realise the brilliance. No one else seems to have noticed "tarantula orgy" - come on - Dave even posted a picture!! And as for the West Ham keeper being in the Witness Protection Program - it's so surreal it could actually be true (hidden in plain sight) But the best line of the week still belongs to Dave's Mum! Such imagery!!
  16. Totally agree - I'm going to have to re-read the whole round-up to see which bits were funniest! Dave's Mum is currently favourite.
  17. Sterling had looked lively all day but he hadn’t been able to have much of an influence until Hendo went off. After that he was running wild. Part of that if because as a team we became tired and City were allowed to get on top of us, but the absence of Henderson was huge because all of a sudden Sterling was picking the ball up and he was isolated one v one with Trent. That did not happen when Henderson was on the field. Klopp alluded to it afterwards without directly mentioning his skipper. He said something along the lines of what a great player Sterling is and how much trouble he gave us in the final 20 minutes, but he also said it shows just what a great job we’d done to keep him quiet until then. You don’t need to make tackles or interceptions to be effective defensively. You can be influential in all sorts of ways that there are no stats for. Shutting down space, closing off angles, doubling up to help the full back and forcing the winger to go backwards. That’s what Hendo did. It was difficult to work out who was responsible for the right hand side once Hendo went off - BGJ went immediately to the left and Gini & Fab just seemed to stay central - so TTA had more to do on the right in defence than he had to do all game - Sadio seemed to be the only one helping out. This also led to City's left back, Angelino, actually getting over half way with the ball at his feet and so TTA was left with 2 v 1 at times.
  18. At the moment I find it difficult to put them ahead this team: https://www.lfchistory.net/SeasonArchive/Game/1046 But even this team lost in the 1st Round of the European Cup (to eventual winners Notts Forest). So let's see................. But it is fun to watch!
  19. Perhaps we bought Keita's cousin by mistake.........
  20. Dave's report, like the game, was short and too the point - get 3 points, no injuries and get mentally prepared for City. However much Klopp said beforehand that it was all about Genk not City the more we knew it was the opposite. Everyone's been looking over the shoulder of the person in front of them towards Sunday. Can't wait!
  21. BTW - would VAR have given the penalty for this challenge if the header hadn't gone in?? Answers on a postcard........................
  22. Great report, Dave. You manage to pull all the contentious issues together and nailed everyone of them. The most worrying aspect is Atkinson because until we kick up a fuss we are going to keep getting him in charge of LFC games as the PGMOL consider him one of the "big match" officials and virtually all LFC games are now in that category. I clearly remember him looking around at both his liners when Mo scored the late winner against Spurs at Anfield last season - as if he could conjure up some way to disallow the goal. Loved the Robbo, Terry Mac comparison!
  23. Good weekly round up, Dave. Plenty of talking points: Danny M - well he's obviously taken note of what crap Robbie Savage comes out with and is trying to out do him. Ljinders press conference coverage was insightful as he seems to give a bit more away about how we try to play than Klopp does. As for the Hendo comments - why are these people wasting our oxygen? They're so off track they should be at Goodison. Basic facts - Hendo is in the team because Klopp wants him in the team as Hendo knows what is expected of him. Hendo is the captain of the team because Klopp wants that as well - and he has the respect of all the others in the team. Football is a team game and the "best team" is not the 11 most talented (best) players it's the 11 players who can get the most out of both their talent and the other 10 on the team whilst making sure they perform consistently well. As for the Keita-Hendo comparison - well we all saw how good Keita was on Wednesday.
