  1. The point about "different thresholds" for challenges appears to be reflected in the foul count = 20 by Liverpool and only 6 by Brighton.
  2. Second goal: As I said to Ralph at the time - Bradley and Mac managed to execute their own "Trent Moment". Everyone seemed distracted by the introduction of Townsend Senior into the fray and whilst he was ambling on to the pitch, the ball was in the back of the net. The referee was looking at the lino for some reason to disallow the goal - even though he had clearly blown the whistle to restart. Just reinforces the old adage of not making substitutes when you are in a defensive situation.
  3. THURSDAY?? The first half was not as bad as you seem to think. Just poor/hurried executions of very good situations. Second half was more of the same - but clinically finished. And the Luton keeper made some very good saves.
  4. Which is the I agree, but continue to disagree emoji?
  5. Jurgen's comment about Barcelona was not about comparing the opposition; it's about thinking about who's missing and not letting it affect how the players go about their own game and having belief in themselves. Virgil's goal is a direct result of Gravenberch coming out and standing 10 metres from the corner - this draws two Luton defenders and Virgil's run is straight into the hole that they vacated.
  6. I fully agree with Harvey being MOM as his energy was key for the faster paced second half. But the other tactical change was that Jones and Robertson played as two wide overlapping full backs - which stretched the Burnley defence and also made Endo and Mac Allister more effective going forwards.
  7. Historically if that had been the case Rooney would have had a lot of time off.
  8. Star man is Szoboszlai and it’s not even close. Agreed, and Endo's cameo was promising - did he ever stop moving?
  9. How many of those games did Curtis Jones start?
  10. Agreed. 25th May, 1977 - first European Cup in Rome!
  11. Wow! Are you sure? When did that sneak into the rulebook? The Offside Law must have a whole section to itself by now. So, now we're left with the "subjective" call. Who would think that a professional referee (or two, if you count the knob twiddler on VAR) could believe that a defender on the edge of the six yard box would not actively try to intercept a pass from one forward to another who is closer to goal? It seems that PGMOL are taking their time on the answer to this - perhaps some tapes are being edited.
  12. Right - so Brooks says that it is subjective and Brooks' decision rests on whether he thinks Konsa is trying to play the ball or not (i.e. it hits Konsa whilst he's looking the other way). Konsa is clearly looking at the ball. If Konsa misses the ball it will fall to Konate 7-8 yards from goal. So what is not deliberate about Konsa playing the ball? Finally, the last touch by a Liverpool player is the header from Diaz - he heads the ball back i.e. away from goal. I thought that offside can only be given from a forward pass. I think that the PGMOL need to explain what offside actually means in this instance. PS Even MOTD thought that the decision was incorrect.
  13. Good point about the clean sheets. Ray Clemence was one of the first "sweeper keepers" as Paisley coached the team to play a high line and so Clem had to be quick & good with his feet, so would have fitted in with today's way of keeping. Plus he scored two really good goals as an outfielder at Tommy Smith's testimonial in 1977.
  14. Best goalkeeper ever? Ray Clemence - if only for the 1978/79 season; 16 goals conceded in total in the league (only 4 at Anfield), 28 clean sheets and all in a 42 game season.
  15. Curtis is the new Lallana - he understands the press and when to apply it.
  16. I am lucky enough to have seen all of the above playing in real life. I would not place Henderson above any of them - however, at LFC it is all about the team and Henderson playing in the current team makes the team more competitive 9 times out of 10. When, for example, Virgil is captain the team is significantly more passive.
  17. The whole team were "somewhere between decent and good" with the exception of TAA & Diaz - so why pick on Henderson?
  18. Fool me once, shame on YOU Fool me twice, shame on ME In other words, learn from your mistakes.
  19. A really good, accurate report as usual. 1st Arsenal goal was all about the run of the ball and it all went their way. 2nd Arsenal goal was more about poor collective defending - especially when the only attacking player in the box gets a free header. But LFC outplayed, outclassed? Not really - we gave as good as we got, but we never really accounted for Odegaard and he was always their outlet and allowed them the time and space to get out of trouble. Once Salah had scored it was all Liverpool - with the odd isolated breakaways. Arsenal's mentality crumbled. With a bit more luck (or a penalty on target) this would have been an LFC win. Arsenal somehow managed to out-shithouse Villa - their most overworked "player" was the physio who spent more time on the pitch than some of the players. How does their keeper somehow go down "injured" after Robbo's miss when he didn't even get near the ball. This injury lasted so long that both teams had a drinks break. Jesus and Saka spent as much time on their backs/backsides as they did on their feet. But then miraculously they could sprint after whoever had the ball once they were allowed back on the pitch. I was surprised that Jesus didn't go down when Bobby hugged him after the match. Anyway, it was what it was, LFC showed a lot of fight and commitment and turned a losing situation into a well-earned point. I actually thought that Henderson was MOM as he took care of the ball, made lots of unselfish runs and made sure that Tierney knew when he was out of order.
  20. I was at the 0-0 draw at OT in early 1977 & the Mancs were chanting "Keegan, Keegan how's your Dad" after he had died a few months earlier.
  21. Such a focused team - all for one; one for all!
