  1. Mypost has nothing to do with RAWK, so that's that lynch attempt aborted.
  2. Coming from who? Nothing disturbing about it, but you and the last poster I replied to have merely confirmed everything I said in the opening paragraph of it. One fails to recognise that our No. 9 is a World/Euro champion at international level. No we have to be signing David Villa instead (who never wants to play EPL football, let alone LFC) for them to calm down. All doom, gloom, and panic.
  3. I could amass a few more, but I'd run the risk of running out of post space. I think it's a bit more than the Swedish League in fairness. What did we win last year? What finals did we reach? CL? UEFA? FA? LC? Do spill. We're in debt, like many people and organisations around the world. If you're in debt, you have to pay interest, regardless who or what you are. Page 1 of economics. I said it was a work in progress. I see a bit more to him than simply "a Chelsea fan" That's England's problem.
  4. It's not that people are never happy, people don't want to be happy at all. All we've heard for the past 2 years, is no money for players, everyone will flee out of L4 OTH, rumours of administration, club will never be sold, another "Leeds", utter armageddon at every turn. What is the reality? We have got rid of someone who lost to Portsmouth, Reading, and Sunderland last year, relegated us to UEFA Cup football this year, that cost us 20 million in the process, and who reduced a ten-year old Kopite to tears live on tv. (v Reading) We've replaced him with a UEFA Cup finalist with a proven track record of turning water into wine at most teams he's been at in the past. We've secured the EPL's record sponsorship deal. We've got a Liverpool fan running the club, keeping the banks onside. We've got a BA executive painstakingly overseeing the imminent sale of the club. We also have England's WC captain, and the World Cup's leading striker on board. While there are many problems, there are also some grounds for optimism. Some of them have been resolved, others are a work in progress. There will be setbacks obviously, but I can see the direction the club is trying to go in and while it's far from perfect atm, it's not as bad as it's being made out to be.
  5. The Rafa question is resolved, so he isn't there to kick around anymore. The owners question isn't, and they are there to kick around. He did no such thing. The removal and appointment process for the new coach was conducted properly and professionally. It took a reasonable timeframe to conclude, and cost us considerably less than previously thought. P&B were given two names by KK to find a new coach, and hired one of them. Simple as that. They ignored the fans wishes in this case, because it was the right thing to do. KK was not cut out to take on the job, having been so long out of it, nor could he prevent the mass exodus out of the club, as is taking place. He is remembered as a legend for bringing us 4 major trophies in 5 seasons. It is right that he isn't held responsible for this mess, as he would have been.
  6. No, the coach MUST have first and final say on all transfers. The bloke running/funding the shop is only expected to ask how much, you see. So, we can sign another pile of Aquilanis and Josemis and Lucases without quibble. You know that the coach and only the coach, knows best. :whatever: If the bloke running the place asks "hang on a minute", the coach is therefore branded a "patsy".
  7. It was a wonderful night in Barcelona. We won 2-1, thanks to Riise's left boot. When's Johnno's next advert? Sorry, you were talking about a different night weren't you? In that case, "wonderful" wouldn't be appropriate, "awful" would.
  8. Rafa got us dumped out of the CL, as top seeds of the group - Blame Purslow Rafa couldn't beat lower league minnows in the cup at home - Blame Purslow Rafa got us a 7th place spot crawling into Europe by default - Blame Purslow Rafa negotiated a vastly-inflated salary with a long term contract (with full control of playing issues) that needed careful surgery to free us out of without crippling the club - Blame Purslow We paid 10 million Euro to get rid of an underperforming, argumentative, politics-obsessed manager, and replaced him with a UEFA Cup finalist and LMA holder, who simply wants to coach football teams. We have a Liverpool fan running the club, who has to simultaneously satisfy the owners, investors, sponsors, players, coach, banks et al, and getting pilloried for trying to do his best for the club. It may not go swimmingly all the time, but it's also not a job that many of us could, or would attempt to do. Save your anger for the real villains, they live across the ocean.
  9. And you're right to be worried. But there is a line between worry and hysteria. Already the signings rumoured to be coming in, are dismissed as not good enough, and they haven't even walked in the door yet, while the ones going out are being treated as martyrs, e.g. sold from under their feet, part of the power struggle between owners and coach. We need a mass clearout, because the ones who are being cleared out are not up to standard. The ones coming in are not Brazilians, but Roy is capable of getting more out of less. It's what he's done all his career, and he has to do it here as well. As of today, we have the marquee players still here, so all the hysteria that they were as good as gone already, is wrong at the moment.
  10. And I said before, these quotes are forensically analysed way too much. We have 400million Euro of debt. Getting 6 million for a below average defender isn't going to seriously dent that figure, so this isn't a demonstration of Roy's power, or perceived lack of it in the club. He's not getting involved in the politics and he shouldn't. He's there to coach the team, and that's what he is trying to do.
  11. I take it we're going to get this hysterics after every transfer in the next 6 weeks. We're even getting it with the players coming in ffs :whatever: Another Rafa buy who was hopeless. Insua is no loss, he can go.
  12. The fifth sentence of the original post is clear what the poster thinks of the appointment. The thread may not be an attack on Roy, but it's not exactly a vote of confidence either. I didn't say everything was ok, nobody is. I don't think your interpretation is bollocks, but I do think the comments are always over analysed looking for coded messages, instead of taking them at face value. What he said, how he said it, why he said it, the way he said it etc, etc. It'd drive you mad with the different interpretations of one (a set of) sentence. If we're going to sell, there's not a lot us fans can do about it. Until then, try and maintain some degree of optimism. Masch is fed up of the club now, and that's no reflection on Hodgson. By all accounts, Roy has spoken to Torres, and told him what his plans are. It's up to Torres now whether he accepts them or not. I think Roy has done well considering he's barely 2 weeks into a massive task. He hasn't fallen out with people, not thrown a howler in an interview, has been trying to buy players of modest ability with limited funds, and is preparing the squad well considering how many players are still on the beach. The league season is just 4 weeks away. He's doing what he can, and I'm confident that he will get the best out of whatever he's left with, come the start of the league.
  13. Mascherano wants to hop it, while Purslow has to speak to Torres, like any other senior figure running the club. These comments and conferences are forensically analysed, far too often for our own good. What somebody said, is not what somebody else thinks they said. Let the events pan out for themselves and see where we are after it.
  14. Nice vote of confidence for Roy there. Not even played a minute of football yet. :|
  15. It doesn't matter who we appointed, could have been Mourinho or Martin O'Neill, we still have/need to sell players, because of where we are. Even the mancs have to sell players for phone number figures to pay off some of their debts. And their fuckhead in charge has claimed every trophy going. While here, the players have a duty to perform for this club, regardless who is in charge. This coach didn't have world-class players at his last club, but he still got them to play out of their skins for him. (He got 7 points off us in his last two seasons) If he can do it there, he can certainly do it here.
  16. That confident? We have only 4 play off games, 6 group games, followed by 8 knockout ties to get to Dublin. For a change, most fans won't have to sell their car and remortgage their house to find the money for the final if we get there, but they will get to see how you travel from here to there every second weekend. The 3am alarm calls, the 7am flights, the overnight boat treks..... ;)
  17. Rafa's way was to fight the owners in public. Where is he now? That's right. Out of a job, here anyway. Roy or no Roy, we need to sell players, not so much as to pay off the debt, but because a lot of them are not good enough. They weren't good enough for Rafa, they're not good enough for Roy, and they wouldn't be good enough for anyone else in this league. There's at least a whole team of players in that squad that need to go asap. One of them already has. We all want to keep the marquee three, but the reality is, the Argentinian one is likely to abandon the ship soon and had his heart set on it anyway, regardless who was in charge. That leaves us with two left to hold the fort. The indications are that nothing the coach has said so far has failed to convince them that Liverpool is not the best choice for them to continue their career. But their future has been speculated for far longer than before June, and Rafa brought a 2nd place team in 2009 to 7th place in 12 months. There are consequences for the players and the club as a result. Those consequences have to be faced and dealt with by everybody. They can't be ignored. If we lose them, it won't be Roy's fault. It won't be a reflection on his ability to succeed here, or his suitability to coach the team. He hasn't coached us for 90 minutes yet, and has a lot of rubble left behind by the last coach to clean up. I'll wait until he has had sufficient time to do that, before casting judgement on him.
  18. What's his crime sheet so far? This coach has, and will continue to be faultless in dealing with the media. It's nice to hear a proper interview at our club, rather than reading about another outburst, as we had to read about for a long time. I'm pleased with his man management skills with the players so far too. The last had no such skills.
  19. Get out that atlas. We're all off to Macedonia in August. Rabotnicki it is.
  20. It's also possible to play on Wednesday nights, should UEFA Cup nights not clash with CL weeks. Otherwise, it's a diet of Thursday night games at 6.00 at Anfield to look forward to. That's considerably more annoying than playing at 3.00 on Sunday.
  21. A trip to Norway or Finland would be almost like a home game for us, with all the Reds out there. Zagora seem to be the most difficult of the lot, but there's a few others out there who could pose a problem or two. Especially if Torres doesn't recover in time. The first leg is just 2 weeks away.
  22. If we get Bangor, Sky will undoubtedly hype it up as the "Battle of Britain". There are 9 opponents available, but as one of them is from the might of San Marino, it's effectively only 8.
  23. The road to Lansdowne Road, Dublin, gets underway on 16 July, when we become the first of England's 7 European representatives for Season 2010/11 to know our first opponents, at the draw for the 3rd Qualifying Round of the Europa League. As top seeds in Group 1, we will play anyone of the following 9 opponents on 29th July next. While none are exactly household names, the destinations are many and varied, from a short hop to Bangor to a long haul trek to Armenia. Take your pick from the following: Stara Zagora (BUL) Stabæk IF (NOR) or FC Dnepr Mogilev (BLR) Rabotnicki (MKD) or FC Mika (ARM) FC Honka Espoo (FIN) or Bangor City FC (WAL) NK Zrinjski (BIH) or SP Tre Penne (SMR) The draw for the third qualifying round takes place at 11:30 GMT, 12:30 Liverpool time on 16 July. To reach the final in Dublin in May next year will require coming through 18 games in the process. Aside from individual game threads, it would be appreciated if we can keep related Europa League (aka UEFA Cup) posts in here under the one thread. Thanks. Pot luck awaits Liverpool and Juve on UEFA.COM
