  1. Which was entirely down to a combination of the manager, managing director and owners. Why were we shipping out a striker and scrabbling around to bring in Dempsey on deadline day in the first place? Rodgers will have played his part in all this. I agree with you though, whatever doubts and concerns many of us have, getting rid of him now would be madness. Short of Guardiola or Klopp fancying a bit of a challenge we need to stick with him and hope that things improve.
  2. It's a bit of a myth to say that he hasn't had money to spend, sure FSG aren't backing us to the level that we know realistically we need to return to a top 4 slot but he's had £30+ million to spend in the summer and we'll be shelling out another £18 million by all accounts in January. His transfer record to date has been poor, simply picking up players he's worked with isn't enough. Borini was a silly move given that we needed someone to hit the ground running, even before his injury he'd delivered very little (playing him out of position didn't help). I don't buy into the we're a terrible side argument either, looking at the players available to him there are several sides above us with weaker 1st teams and squads. Indeed last night Stoke are hardly filled with household names. Why weren't we as committed as the opposition? I'm sure we pressed the ball much better at the beginning of the season? Looking at the backroom staff he's brought in doesn't exactly fill me with confidence either. We don't appear to be capable of doing the basics. He's taken us noticeably backwards so far irrespective of the excuses.
  3. If you're a new manager you make the best of what you have available and choose a system that gets the most out of your players rather than blindly trumpeting a borrowed philosophy? Over the course of several transfer windows you bring in players capable of playing your preferred system and as the team evolves increasingly move towards implementing your system. Evolution rather than revolution in this case. With the players available 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 at the moment.
  4. PSG accounts boosted by massive QTA investment - Sports Sponsorship news - Soccer Europe - SportsPro Media 150 million euro's a season from a typically dodgy sponsor.
  5. Once they accept FFP is a busted flush I think they'll look to move on and as we're seeing with the likes PSG's new spectacular sponsorship deal that's looking increasingly likely. They purchased us as a distressed asset hoping to grow us sustainably without the need for a substantial investment protected by FFP. We are also an opportunity for them to dip their toe in European sports franchises. I suspect they'd hoped we'd be a far more hands off investment than we've actually turned out to be. Finding another buyer is obviously far from easy.
  6. We'll probably finish where we are the moment, we are the definition of a mid-table team, win one, lose one and repeat.
  7. He's showing a shocking lack of flexibility or tactical depth, it just seems to be the holy grail of his chosen system to the exclusion of even concentrating on the basics it seems. He's making the fatal mistake of trying to fit the players into the system rather than the system around the players he has at his disposal. We just don't have the players to be an effective 4-3-3 side particularly away from home.
  8. Awful, christ we're the softest Liverpool side I've ever seen. When we come up against a poor side that sit back and let us play like Fulham we look good against anyone who challenges us we're pants.
  9. True but they do have qualities that all sides should have, watching the way they press the ball is impressive and is something we should be doing. Watch Barcelona hound the opposition they don't just pass and move.
  10. Yeah we always seem to be playing in front of the opposition unfortunately, very little 'penetration'.
  11. Not just Stoke though, it's happened several times this season that to say that we're vulnerable to through balls is an understatement. Far too much space between Agger and Skrtel with no screening from midfield at all. We've made a bit of progress over the last couple of months but these are kind of basics that should be being addressed.
  12. Agger, Gerrard and Johnson, just very, very sloppy. We can't even put that down to Stokes legendary long ball tactics, just a very soft goal, again.
  13. Actually there is some truth to this, old manc fans have a very conflicted view of Ferguson. Clearly they recognise the dominance they've enjoyed is largely down to one man. However as one of my friends who is sadly crippled with loyalties for that club puts it, the suspicion is that United has always been a vehicle for Ferguson. Ferguson's staunch support for the Glazers being to the point of contempt for the supporters has brought this out. We need to remember the role Ferguson has played in all this, don't mention his feud over a certain racehorse.
  14. Luckily if that's the case it won't be played at Stoke so they can't narrow the pitch. They're not great on full size football pitches.
  15. Agree with this completely. We really should stop making absolute judgements on young developing players, I'm as guilty of this as anyone. He looks to me like he'll develop into a good quality Premiership midfielder. Comparing him to one of the best midfielders I've ever seen play (Alonso) isn't really relevant.
  16. Yep definitely they do work simply by covering the exposed nerve. You'll need to get it seen to though fairly sharpish if it's infected but it should see you through Christmas. Another tip a dentist told me is to buy some toothpaste for sensitive teeth e.g. sensodine as they contain an anesthetic that will numb the area. Rub the toothpaste gently onto the tooth and affected gum. It does give temporary relief. Last one is disprin or similar but only if you're safe to take it. Dissolve a single disprin tablet and swill it around your mouth.
  17. Do we really need to be changing our formation to accommodate Stoke? It would be nice to see them be more worried about us. We've changed it around to take care of their alehouse tactics on several occasions and the best we've come away with is a draw in the Premiership. I'd leave things well alone, we played well against Fulham and began to address several of the short comings in our side we've all spotted over recent weeks.
  18. I hope he's a huge success, a bit suspect for me to be honest, he clearly has the ability but given our track record of spending big on British players who substantially under perform.....
  19. Really good performance throughout, Reina, back four and Lucas were particularly good. Downing was excellent, it's just a shame that it's taken him 18 months. I hope he's put in a performance like that because he wants to stay rather than putting himself in the shop window?
  20. Agree with most started very brightly but seems to have dipped over the last couple of months. Looks like he could do with spending a bit more time in the gym as the word 'lightweight' seems to crop up. In all fairness he's young, still adapting to joining a new club and playing in a side that's struggling. We used to give experienced players a season to settle in let alone younger players. Longer term I'm not sure about him and Lucas. As we've seen with Henderson give then time to settle and they can often improve.
  21. I think problem is that at present they don't have a great track record regarding transfers. They clearly aren't stupid but are openly inexperienced. In all fairness the club has a pretty poor record over the last few years prior to FSG which doesn't exactly breed confidence.
  22. Now that I didn't realise. That's simply a ludicrous thing to do especially given our apparent financial limitations. Who the hell is negotiating these deals? We've got to be the worst operators in the Premiership.
  23. The Olympics were great as far as I'm concerned, got thoroughly caught up in a huge sporting event. The concept of the 'legacy effect' beyond perhaps limited expansion of grass roots sport simply to justify the enormous cost of the event is pretty bogus, the impact even in terms of us taking up or following new sports is very limited. That's before we consider the financial aspects or the apparent social impact. It's highly unlikely we'll ever see a return financially on the Olympics. I can't say personally I've seen any change socially either. That doesn't mean it wasn't a completely irrational or wonderful thing to do.
