  1. Hold on, what's any of that got to with Kenny's latest comments? Have you even read the piece? At least read it before calling people 'fringe lunatics' for defending Kenny for what was just a rallying call to get behind Rafa and not some political statment as part of the ongoing PR wars. Anyone who thinks he's interested in any of that is the one who is tunnel visioned. Certain people just love the sound of their own keyboard's don't they.
  2. Now that is bollocks. The Roma thing is vastly overplayed and was not the catalyst for the violence in the heat of the moment at Heysel, which at the time was a regular occurence with English clubs across Europe. I think everyone accepts that a portion of our fans played their part in the build up and the tragic outcome but none of them could have foreseen what was going to happen.
  3. He's Rafa's man not the owners.
  4. Typical inconsistant top 10 team really. Draw with the mancs, beat us and then lose to Birmingham.
  5. It's a bit of a myth that we never sell our best players. The theory of the 'selling club' is one based on nurturing or spotting talent and selling them on to a bigger club when they reach a certain standard, and completely different from accepting a huge offer for a player past his peak, something the club and past managers were never afraid to do before all this raging sentimentalism kicked in. It's got nothing to do with reducing the debt, just sensible business practice. Stevie is a legend but it's inevitable that his game will decline over the next few seasons and we'd be stupid not to look at a huge offer. Hopefully we'll have won a title by then and he fancies a new challenge abroad.
  6. Thommo reguarly goes to town on the owners and did so again today, as have a few others in the past. I doubt it's got anything to do with perks and all to do with the fact that they're emotionally connected to the club like the rest of us and don't want to rock the boat. I'm sure if we hit rock bottom and there was a chance of forcing the yanks to sell to a ready made buyer there would be more high profile names coming out to lambast the yanks, when the harsh truth is that will only happen if they get the price they want, which isn't likely given the debt and stadium issue.
  7. I try my best to dislike Bruce, but he always comes across as a good guy, if a little touchy feely. He's building a good side there and you are strong in key areas, notably CM. I can see a top 8 finish, maybe even Europe if there's an extra spot. Have to say, I wanted you go down last season. I thought the attitude of some of your players (Ferdinand, Richardson, etc) was a disgrace and it was obvious they were not giving their all for the manager (Sabria?).
  8. Thanks for that red box and the snide comment that followed. I hope you feel better for it. I couldn't care less what you think really, 30 million for a player hitting 30 is a great price, that goes for anyone.
  9. People turning against Kenny now? It's getting beyond the joke this. I've come to realise that a significant section of our fanbase are not happy unless they're moaning about something or someone. Kenny lives and breathes LFC and would support any manager because that's just the way he is. Certain people expecting him to publically criticise anyone connected to the club just don't know the man.
  10. Planted story to try and unsettle us ahead of Sunday. The mancs have many media mates. I'd accept 30 million though.
  11. I don't think he should be sacked even if we finish out of the CL spots. There's no one out there of the required quality who is available and would be willing to work under the same conditions. He does have his flaws, like any manager, and has spent a lot of money, but I still believe he's overachieved in his time here and deserves to be judged when the competition is more evenly balanced. Bringing a new man in might work in the short term, but long term the same problems will exist and round and round we go. Certain people are desperate to hound him out though, even among our own support. It's time like this that you realise we're nothing special.
  12. Really good post that. Bit too fair and balanced for this topic and the usual blame game that ensues whenever it pops up. I always the prefer the accounts of people who saw it unfold with their own eyes than the misinformed views of others who use it for their own prejudice. I was only young at the time and didn't really understand the magnitude of what had happened. I always remember my Dad, though. He was as football and LFC mad as you could find but his face was contorted with pain and anguish. He changed that night and fell out of love with the game forever. He still watches it and supports us but the passion died with those poor people.
  13. I love Tommy Smith. Great player and proper Red.
  14. I dunno. I have my doubts about his philosophy. I think he got in the way of winning the league last season for example. But the more stick he gets from the press, who just want to see a manager hanged, the more I want to support him.
  15. Agree with that. I know Johnson is an easy target for his defending but there's no getting away from the fact that he's better going forward. Plus we get Kuyt, who is having a shocking season, out of a creative position.
  16. Decent read but I'm not a fan of Tompkins. No objectivity whatsoever. I can see him with his own compound in a few years, preaching to his 'followers' using vague stats and data. To be fair, I'd rather read his work than other so called Reds who practically love seeing every manager fail for their own agenda, usually because they're not the second coming of Shanks or Bob. That Steve Kelly in the Irish press is among the worst, very bitter.
